Description Well, this song definitely goes through some changes throughout the song. Even the verses are different. The first one was built around some interesting chords, the second is built around a guitar riff & the third is a combination of the two. I kept the "I am fine" chords the same to keep some kind of continuity to them.

I originally was thinking of posting this as a prog rock. But, the lyrics are light and not deep. After a record long winter and rainy cold spring, summer has finally hit in my area. Last weekend I was laying in the sun, reading a book and thought it doesn't get better then this.
Lyrics I've Got To Say

I'm so happy the sun on my face
I'm so happy the bills are paid
I am fine I am fine today
the radios on I'll sing along
every damn song that comes on
I am fine I am fine today

ch:
I've got to say I'm still sane after all these years
I've got to say I've got no complaints (I am fine)
I've got to say I'm fine today (I am fine)

self induced coma with a smile on my face
throw away the memories of pesky little days
I am fine I am fine today
I doubt I will listen to what anyone says
sometimes I do think that it's better that way
I am fine I am fine today

ch:
I've got to say I'm still sane after all these years
I've got to say I've got no complaints (I am fine)
I've got to say I'm fine today (I am fine)

I live the summer a breeze thru my hair
I could forget about everything here
I am fine I am fine today
I'm so happy the time is my own
I'm so happy the clocks have slowed down
I am fine I am fine today

ch:
I've got to say I'm still sane after all these years
I've got to say I've got no complaints (I am fine)
I've got to say I'm fine today (I am fine)

Alright Vic!
Dem creative juices be flowin still I see...

Very nice. Lovely lyrics. Fine vocal delivery.

You held my interest throughout all the changes. The "I've Got to Say" hook really grabbed me! It will surely be played over and over again by all who fave this puppy!

Love it bro!

Be well!

Firsties! HAW!
btw Vic, nice---if somewhat faded---pic of you looking VERY Tom Petty-ish...

Vic Holman said 200 days ago
hey Mike
I've been working on this in bits and pieces over the past month when I could find the time. a couple times i would totally redo whole sections, so thi evolved somewhat.

re: the picture, nah, I'm always blurry :)

said 199 days ago
Sometimes...
...the ol' "bits and pieces" approach works best. Often we're in too big a hurry (I think) to crank out something new, and the tune suffers as a result.

Forgot to mention that I really enjoyed your use of background vocals on this one. I can never seem to pull them off like you can!

lavalamp said 199 days ago
Summer's here
Excellent musicianship on this one. There's always something new around every corner on this.
You've wowed me once again, my friend.

Will DL and listen more.

LL

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Hey Dave
I may be a bit self indulgent here. I wanted to give it some variety. I stopped myself before I added a choir and orchestra tracks to some of the instrumental parts. but I was tempted

lavalamp said 186 days ago
Listened again
Still cool!

peacepiano said 199 days ago
Cool
Love the song. "Fine" vocals. "No complaints" about the guitars. Great stuff!!

Thanks.

Bill

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Thanks Bill
a lot of guitars for sure. something like 16 tracks of them. couple places only two. during the instrumental parts they added up pretty quick. i guess i just liked playing on this one.

Feter said 199 days ago
I've Got To Say
Ye ..another great track of Vic that definetly
hold the significant signature ..the guitars
the singing the sound bed ..definetly enjoyed this
great great mood for this my friend ..thnx alot
for sharin it !!!!!

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Thanks Feter
I was in the mind set of creating something big sounding and with quite a few variations. I was thinking of putting a orchestra behind some of the parts but, for me, doing it by guitar is faster.

rsorensen said 199 days ago
your sound
another great one. you have such a unique & original sound i find so cool. it's great to have your own 'sound' and you should be proud of it. great song! Love the variations in it.

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
it sticks like glue
or a 300Lb. gorilla. :)

somehow the sound snuck up on me when i wasn't looking. But, i've always been interested in counter parts, i think that's what makes it what it is.

Skean said 199 days ago
Yes cool

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Thanks Kenta
yeah, I don't think this is a early morning song. Unless some one likes a blast to shake them out of bed!

thanks, bro!

mikkinylund said 199 days ago
Alternative to me
But then again, I am also one that never has cared about labels much.
This is very colorful. I love the vocals and the lyrics on this song very, very much. It's catchy, especially with the chorus, and the instruments are performed well. It has some distinctive Chinese over it!? :) It grows upon a few rounds of listen to it. Great work!

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Thanks Mikki
Yeah I was thinking that part of the verse had a bit of a chinese melody to it..... so it wasn't just me. wasn't intentional, just turned out that way.

I appreciate the listen

Leon said 199 days ago
I've got to say, this is so fine!
I love your creativeness in melding rock with a hint of alternative and retro-rock. I commend your vocal performance. Very interesting and entertaining!

You've got some of the cleanest sounding instruments in all of Macjams. Very crisp recording from the very first note to the very end. Mixing is impeccable. You gotta teach some tricks to the rest of us "amateurs."

Leon said 199 days ago
OK...
I get it... Logic Pro... Sounds pro indeed. ;-)

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
Hey Leon, thanks!
I get the sound I want from each instrument going in from my digitech pedal board. that way I can hear immediately if its right in a live situation kinda way.

It's really been a lot of trail and error along the way.
I've found Logic 8 is pretty easy to use and has a lot of options that I have yet to explore.

said 199 days ago
Great!
What I love about your songs mostly is your signature with the guitar work and vocal delivery. It's always special, just like any other songs from you so it looks like an endless suite of Gems... Great work here sir!

Take Care
- Yeman A. Al-Rawi

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Thanks Yeman
signature sound. i think that's one of those things that sneaks up on you after some years of playing.... And a melding pot of favorite artists.

Thanks for the support Yeman!

MarkHolbrook said 199 days ago
Once again fabulous
from the Fab Holman band!!!

As usual Vic this is amazing!

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Thanks Mark
....and the best thing is no in this vic clone band disagrees or gets moody.

Thanks again!

thoddi said 198 days ago
no doubt
The first note out of that solo geetar exposed the signature sound from the great Vic Holman!

Great line here: "the radios on I'll sing along
every damn song that comes on".

LOL:) Cool tune!

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Thanks Thor
the funny thing is I can play any guitar even with different amp settings and yet it will always sound the same, must be in the hands I'm guessing.

yeah I thought that line was a little funny, I'm going to have a good day no matter if the song that comes on stinks. But usually I don't play the radio these days

Peter Bauckham said 198 days ago
Well
maybe I biased but I just love the Vic Holman sound - from the first few notes it coudn't be anyone else - the drums, the guitars, the vocals. But always original too...

Love this tune!

Peter

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Hi Peter
several years back when I first started recording. I set out to create music that I enjoyed because it was hard to find much of anything new worth listening to. At times I'm still amazed that anyone would listen, considering most of my friends don't really care.

Vic Holman said 198 days ago
-!-
:-) ya know

lengold said 197 days ago
Lovely song
Vic and performed as only you can - great stuff.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Thanks Len
I appreciate it and am looking forward to what cool tune you come up with next

davisamerica said 197 days ago
right then vic
i am happy ... you posted this ... a fun tune and it soars!

Vic Holman said 197 days ago
Thanks Jack
it's important to have a happy tune for summer. Now if I could only get time off from work.

I appreciate the listen!

egobandit said 197 days ago
very cool
Im glad everything is fine.. Its always today that its fine bec I dare not think about tommorrow. I really like the break where it gets distorted and surreal. cool pickin on the end there. Enjoyed it alot!

Vic Holman said 194 days ago
hey Tim
live for today. I can't makes plans for "the tomorrows"... they always go 180. so I don't anticipate anything.

buckhorn said 196 days ago
Let's see
Your bills are paid, you're sane, and you have hair for the wind to blow through. Things I can only dream about....another fine VH production.

Vic Holman said 194 days ago
well..
the hair is thinning a bit on top. that's one for the minus column. But, there is no gray. So, that's one for the plus column

Bob Rodgers said 195 days ago
Great intro
and I love the sound of your guitars on this...all sixteen of them lol!

Great vocals and lyrics and a superb production!

I love all the changes...this is really great!

Loved it Vic!

Vic Holman said 194 days ago
Thanks Bob
16 guitars and not to mention some of the regions that I ended up cutting out.

Great track of yours that Davisamerica got ahold of. that was great

guitapick said 195 days ago
Seems like...
...we're always thinking of something that could make a tune better or worrying about something that might detract...a good thing, in my mind, in that it makes us strive for a better song...

This is one of those "better songs", Vic. I read your description and it all made sense...but the bottom line is that the tune's really fine and I'm glad for summer, too....

Vic Holman said 194 days ago
Thanks Bob
for me it was a few variations on a theme, once the ball gets rolling it's pretty easy to build once you get in the trance like state.

said 194 days ago
Thick as a Vic....
and I am not talking about Tull... this song is just so thick with rich guitar... rich vocals, and just thick as a brick music. What a treat, Vic. If you were only 30 years younger and this was 1970... nah... now is a great time for guys like you showing the way! Kudos galore.

Jack

Vic Holman said 194 days ago
sometimes I am thick in the head
if I knew then what I know now, i would know something.

Funny little thing last weekend i was going through old photo albums and there is a photo of me playing at a world expo in '74. I've realized it is the only photo that I know of where I'm playing a guitar. kind of odd.

dolby said 191 days ago
Glad to see you're...
...still knocking 'em out Vic. Was there a bit of Thin Lizzzy at the start of this? Sounded good, anyway. What gets me everytime is the volume you master your stuff at. Just the best. Another enjoyable tune, and mammoth arrangement! Cheers,
Phil

Vic Holman said 189 days ago
Thanks Phil
good to see and hear you back on the scene.

Thanks I wanted to create a big sound here, just some good old orchestration

jiguma said 191 days ago
Sorry I'm late Vic
Some great sounds (as usual). I've just started playing with LP8 and am really excited about the new possibilities - you seem to have added significantly to your arsenal in LP8. I'm finding the options to Ozone seem to work fine. You certainly don't sound like you're missing Ozone - great sound. Just love your guitar sounds and sense of melody/soloing.
Cheers,
Neil

Vic Holman said 189 days ago
Thanks Neil
Finally! you got Logic8, that's great.

I'm sure you are finding a lot of options to play with. I like goofing around with mainstage as well.

There are a lot of things I have yet had the time to play around with. The bass amp simulator plug-in is awesome.

DWL said 190 days ago
Signature sounds
From the first notes you put the Holman signature on each of your songs.

Beautifully arranged and produced.

A great advert for LP.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 189 days ago
Thanks Dick
Signature........ my hand writing has gotten sloppier over the years. I think from playing the guitar for so many years my DNA has rubbed off into my songs

said 189 days ago
i've Got to Say
I love this
and you have a Great Voice. Love the music, lyrics are cool as well
A geat production. Wow!

Love these lyrics especially below.

I've got to say I'm still sane after all these years
I've got to say I've got no complaints (I am fine)
I've got to say I'm fine today (I am fine)

Peace Dee.

Vic Holman said 189 days ago
Thanks Dee
sometimes when you manage to make it through life's trauma's. You learn to say "it's a great day and I can get through it and no ones going to ruin for me no matter what".

I appreciate the listen!

Great Vox
I really like your voice on this one. I stumbled upon your songs through comments I made to others. I guess that's what this website is all about. Nice guitar work also. I look forward to listen to your other work.

Vic Holman said 188 days ago
Thanks Sean
true, sometimes it's takes a while to find some artists not noticed before here. Thats kind of the fun of it. Which in turn I need to check out some of your stuff

guygrooves said 188 days ago
WOW
This sooooo good. I am floored by the guitar chops. You have a great song here and I enjoyed every second of it. Production on this is something I aspire too. Just listening will teach me so much.

Vic Holman said 186 days ago
