Description I had this idea I would say that this is the story of our hero, Out-out, and how gets depressed and wanders to the edge of the rooftop contemplating the jump. But that would be nonsense.

I play guitar and slide bass guitar and there's some funky stuff going on, samples and stuff courtesy of soundsnap.com. I wanted to do something with a free tempo.
I guess this is another of my tributes to Ry Cooder's film soundtrack style, evidently, since that's what I hear.
Hardware Sterling Audio SE-66 Tube microphone, Apogee Duet, iMac, Guild G37 acoustic guitar, Epiphone Thunderbird bass
Software: Logic Pro 8

Free tempo

Very nice, bluesy feel .

Interesting
Pretty expressive I thought. Felt the slide part was darker and more dangerous as our hero approaches, then contemplates the edge and then becomes lighter and freer sounding at the point he realizes how crazy that would be and backs away slowly. At least that's the visual I get with the info from your notes....

love this, it's really drawing me in. that slide bass is soooo good. my only complaint is that i would liked this to go on for about 10 minutes (seriously). what a mood, great job.

this is so cool Jim. I have to agree with previous comments - too short - my ear wants it to go on at LEAST 10 minutes (lol). And I'm also with Dadai - waiting to hear what happens with our hero next. Please keep us posted. Very cool idea, arrangements - I always love your stuff!

Slide bass? That's a new one to me, but I like it. It really enhances the down mood of this piece. Nice work. Short, though.

excellent
man, this really put my in the middle of a down south swamp. mission accomplished!!

Too scary ..
.. for ambient. Maybe "swampy" might be the genre, or "swamp cinema soundtrack"?
Cool one Jim. Slide bass eh ..........

not that scary, I think.
Before I added the bass it was sort of wistful with just the guitar. The bass ended up making it sound a little like something off the "Trespass" soundtrack. I'd just gotten a new tapered brass slide to replace the one that disappeared a year or so ago in the practice space of my old band, and it just sounded pretty good with on the bass. The Epi Thunderbird has such a long neck and it's a great bass for recording, very quiet and responsive.

Yeah...
I can sort of imagine wounded members of the James Gang riding in slow motion back from Northboro to this...

Like it...
as is, as a short-short sketch. I don't feel I need to know what happens next, but I do think if you so chose, you could develop the arch of what's happening and expand a little.

Thanks for this. I'm also intrigued at how there seems to be water on this rooftop, but I just took rooftop to be a metaphor for any of life's edges. Really cool concept...

I like the twangy strings, not having much to say in that dept. except that it adds desperation to the song, which is appropriate.
