WOW!

Wow back at ya :-)
I could say the same about Elevated Passage and Angel Convention (to name but 2).

I'll be pointing Frances towards your page to give her some inspiration (she just got Logic Pro as a present and is a bit daunted by it, I think.......)

Very very cool. Great composition - I can't even begin to conceive of writing for 3 pianos. And you've done a fine job of cutting and pasting and experimenting with sounds. I second magnatone's WOW. Great work!

Thanks! I'm still not 100% sure that Frances actually likes what I did with the piece (extended it a bit, added comedy ending, etc) - she's far too nice to ever say anything critical about her Uncool.

So assume the good bits are completely hers :-)

Structure
Thanks for the kind words. It has got a nice structure to it hasn't it - I think that is down to Frances's 'proper' music training (she's recently finished a Music Degree here in the UK).

I should try and learn from her - it's a big failing of my stuff.

Definition of "Domestic"
I should mention that in South London (England, Europe), a heated exchange between two (or more) family members may be described as, "a bit of a Domestic".

This has been a public service announcement bringing the finer points of Mockney vernacular to a global audience :-) (1 of a series)

Fun stuff
This sort of slides from one motif to the next, touches each for a little while, then moves on to the next thought. It has a bit of a cinematic quality, where the melodies in themselves are not important, but only the mood they set.

I think I like the opening passage best, which sounds like your straining against the restrictions of diatonic writing.

What's that final effect? Strumming the strings inside the piano? Cool.

Thanks for an interesting comment!

I'll see if I can get F to reply to your comments about the nature of the composition technically; sadly it's beyond me :-)

Essentially, just I took the 3 separate midi files for each piano, cut them up into what seemed to be sensible sections - repeated where it seemed to make sense to extend the short piece and duplicated the tracks, revoicing where it seemed to work. And added a slightly different ending - as the original seemed rather abrupt.

The nice noise at the end is a slightly manipulated GB loop called: Abstract Atmosphere 014.1

whets the appetite
Rather nice work here, on both counts. First, it gives a teasing glimpse at Frances' very intriguing piano(s) composition. Secondly, it shows a bit of ingenuity on your part for re-conceiving this with alternate voicings and arranging... and it still is rather cohesive, and definitely quite enjoyable. Some of the choices I would have tweaked or altered... the flute part, since it tended to be played anaerobically (without a breath) sounded a little uncomfortable (for the blue-flute-player), so I would have probably chosen a string instrument, violin or harp? But again, a minor suggestion. Glad to have run across your music, and welcome to Macjams!

Hi......
Thanks for such a thoughtful reply.

I understand what you mean about the flute part - but I really wanted to get something shrill which would cut through the other parts. In the sound palette I was dealing with, it was the best I had :-)

Don't think that strings or harp would have cut it - but let me know if you want to have a play; it would be interesting to see what someone with your experience would do with it.

Cheers - JC
