Description Dreadmon originally offered up his Dulcimer Track to BadSmells - who posted his version as "Sunday at Little Beach" (An open collaboration) found here: www.macjams.com/song/26491. I loved the Eastern Flair of the sound from the moment I heard it ... I have "Tinkered" on and off again with this number for quite some time .... generating many different versions ... I eventually gave up trying to capture what I was going for in all my failed attempts .... but decided to post this version nonetheless .... perhaps this version has a little too much going on in places... but it was still a fun little "tinker" ... most of the lyrics are not in English (and my pronunciation leaves something to be desired) ..... The Title "Tunak Tunak Tun" (I believe translates to: It has no real meaning, just words that fit a beat) ....
Lyrics I met a man
With Golden skin
He had me at hello
But I was too afraid that day
to let my feelings show

(A lot of gibberish in another language backing vocals - basically:
"Heart Desires", "Secretly Quietly", "Without You" "Memories", "I have something to say", "These are paths of love" "Love Love and Love" "I am Yours Now", "Memories" (I think these are actually titles of movies .. HAHAHAHAHAHA) but I used them anyway

Its sounds double dutch but the music and your singing is lovely
as usual. That guitar sounds an awful lot like one of my favourite groups
U2 the sounds are brilliant I love it. Well done you two.

Peace Dee xx

Alannah said 168 days ago
The music .....
... is all Bad Smells and Dreadmon ..... the double dutch is me .. hahaha I just realized the song is supposed to be titled "Tunak Tunak Tun" .. I accidentally typed "tin" ... oops .. thanks for the listen and comment Dee !

guygrooves said 168 days ago
Sounds like..
the tinkering paid off. This is so different from anything I have heard before, both lyrically and musically. Impressive to say the least. It's a very pleasing piece I will enjoy it over and over. Great collaboration all who were involved. I would love to hear more from you. It seems as though you have something magical here and it would be worth seeing if it will happen again. This is music that pushes the envelope, and I am always excited when I find some, as there is not very much of it around. Thanks for sharing this.

Alannah said 168 days ago
Thanks Guy ....
.. for your listen and your complimentary comments ... I have done some collabs with both Bad Smells and Dreadmon before ... but nothing in this genre certainly .... the music truly stood up on its own ... but I loved the sound so much I couldn't help playing around with it myself and adding my own brand of chant to it .....

LunaTrick said 168 days ago
Very provocative
Rhythmically sound with nice eastern taints... subtle vocal treatments... this style suits your voice very well.

Alannah said 168 days ago
Thanks Luna ....
.. this was a long "tinker" in the making .... there are multiple versions .... and then eventually I just said OH HECK post one of them .. and this was it ...... but I just realized the title is wrong .. it should say TUNAK TUNAK TUN (not "tin"). oh well .....

Feter said 168 days ago

Holy, holy...
Maybe I should listen to this w/ a fresh mind and, not immediately after just having had a deeply intimate moment with one of California's finest legal fatties - In this present state, this little ditty was way too good to my system.

I'm really kind of in disbelief... No offense to anyone because regardless, you guys did create a stunningly beautiful piece and, I'm happy for yas. Alannah, you done good! You outdid yourself! I REALLY like how you used your vox on this. Striking. And as well, you had some pretty fine material to wrap your wonderful singing soul around.

Gotta listen to the originals at some point.

Nice, nice work, everyone! I'll have to try to listen tomorrow to see if this is as pleasantly psychedelic as it is tonight. Thanks! Macca

Macaudion said 168 days ago
Back to grab my way underpriced copy...
...and I'm happy to report, that this little piece of good-trip is every bit the wonderment that it was last night, but without the, "hanging off the side of the world while seeking a thrill" amusement. More fitting as my Sunday morning, spiritual moment...

Praise be to the creators...

Macca

Alannah said 168 days ago
hahaha Macca ....
... actually I have had numerous psychadelic moments with this one .... each one a little different from the rest (as you well know what that is like) .... glad to hear it has an ambidextrous quality to it ... good for a Rip Roarin Saturday Night experience as well as a mellow Sunday Morning ride ..... thanks for the listen and commentos! You rawk!

Roxylee said 168 days ago
Wow, Alannah
This is awesome good. I love the sound bed, and what you've added to it. So creative and unique!! I love your voice in here and the layering of sound. Brings me to a faraway place- African plains... Wonderful collab!

Alannah said 168 days ago
the layering yes ....
.. actually there were so many versions and so much cutting and pasting I don't even remember how many layers there are here .... I was still wondering if I overdid it with the vocal tracks tho ... cause the original was just so full to begin with ... I never quite know when to stop the "tinker" .. glad you liked it!

magnatone said 168 days ago
Tunak Tunak
Oh man, I LOVE THIS! This is like, the perfect song. Your voice Alannah is just blowing me away. Like Daniel said, it's suits this song so perfectly. This is SUCH a download!

Alannah said 168 days ago
Downloads are good ....
.... I enjoyed this original piece of music so much .. I can't tell you how many times I have listened to it ... with and without vocals ... and I just LOVED what Dreadmon and BadSmells created ...... it was great fun to add my bit to it ... thanks for the praise.

falzaabi said 168 days ago
wow
nice Alannah I like it

Alannah said 168 days ago
Thanks ...
... always nice to hear when someone likes something I have had my "tinker" with .. I am always worried that I am ruining someones great work by adding my vocals to it ....

peacepiano said 168 days ago
Song
Very cool sound. The vocal layers and effects are haunting. You make terrific use of the high energy mandolin music.

Thanks
Bill

Alannah said 168 days ago
There's that word again ....
... "haunting" ... yes I am always trying for "haunting" and am never sure if I have hit my mark .... glad to hear that the "haunt" is alive and well in this one .... thanks for the listen and comments.

Rebsie said 168 days ago
Well tinkered
The crisp clean dulcimer makes a lovely contrast with the mellow vocals, and it's great how it gets more intense as it builds until it sounds almost like a percussion instrument. That Bing is a clever boy. Excellent performance Alannah, you should be proud of this, film titles or not! :)

Alannah said 168 days ago
Wow Rebsie ....
.. always a pleasure to have you drop by one of my posts .. and such high praise .... thank you .... you have made my day! I actually really procrastinated about posting this one .... but now I am glad I did.

Rebsie said 166 days ago

Awww thanks ... I'm glad you posted it too, and glad my words gave you some encouragement. I'll try to drop by more often.

Moviz said 168 days ago
Wonderful
combination of sounds double Dutch or not, love it, cheers M

Alannah said 165 days ago
Thanks Moviz ....
... I had this "idea" in my head quite some time ago ... and basically didn't think about posting it because I knew I was pronouncing all the words wrong ... but then thought .. oh what the heck .. not the first time someone has done something in a made up language ! Thanks for stopping by!

Jim Bouchard said 168 days ago
Wow!
This is really, really cool! I've always loved Dreadmon's dulcimer songs and you've got a really great mix going here...soooo cool! Love it!

Alannah said 165 days ago
All ....
.. the coolness of the tune belongs to Dreadmon and BadSmells .... they created the music .... I just couldn't keep my crazy off of it .... heh heh ....

Mystified said 168 days ago
Lovely vocals!
Set against the lovely instrumentals :)

You have such a wonderful exotic tone to your voice, Alannah.
I loved the beginning of this song, and the way it drew me into a sense of another time and place with your layered vocals.

Kudos on a great collab :)

Alannah said 165 days ago
Actually ....
.... I think it was you originally who inspired me to try the vocal layering thing .... originally my earlier songs only had one vocal track on them ... it wasn't until I heard all those fabulous "mystifications" that I thought I would branch out and try recording more than one vocal track and see where it would take me. Thanks for the kind words and listen - I appreciate it!

Mystified said 165 days ago
Well, then!!
I'm glad you experimented with the layered vocal ideas--they really are perfect for this particular song and the mood you conveyed through them.

Again...wonderful job on this one! :)

Hi Alannah
This is way cool.
I missed this deadmon cut. Its a way cool start. Then what you came up with...
way cool
a moving piece of work
love your stuff girl
tim

Alannah said 165 days ago
Way cool ....
... so nice to hear such words .... there were so many versions of this tune ... trust me ... some of them were so far from way cool and bordered on way too much goin on .... I still felt that perhaps there were too many vocal tracks on this version ... but threw caution to the wind and said .. what the heck .. post it anyway. Thanks Tim for your listen and much appreciated comments.

thetiler said 167 days ago
This music
really seems to bring about your deep rooted style it seems. Like the deep reverb counter singing and of course your cultural style here.

Seemed like a nice trip into new territory for you. Nice back up music as well.

Alannah said 165 days ago
Yes cultural style indeed ....
.... this was a stretch ... even for me (who's willing to try all sorts of crazy) ..... but yes the reverb and all that echo helped to blend mispronounced words into part of the music ... and it all just became part of the mellee .... thanks Tiler for your listen and comment.

Bad Smells said 167 days ago
Top jam.....love it!
what a great laugh! Well done Alannah.
Here is the raga Bing originally served up.....
http://www.darkstudios.com/Raga11-18-06.mp3
Greatness!

Alannah said 165 days ago
I must say ....
Bing's original Raja is truly remarkable ... but it was the crazy genious of BadSmells addition to it that brought this tune to a more manic pace .... which was the inspiration behind my desire to add my own brand of mania to it ...

drakonis said 167 days ago
exxxxcelllent layers
Wow... Dreadmon is a wonder as always, then to have Bad Smells infuse their music between the lines brings it up a few notches, then Alannah, your foreign linguistic chorus chanting, and your great singing here really make this a worldly (or other-worldly) aural tapestry... definitely sends my mind off to some other plane. Wonderful work you three!

ttfn,
Drakonis

Alannah said 165 days ago
and ....
... I put all that reverb in there just for you ..... I must say .... I am truly lucky that so many Mjers here who are such good sports allowing me to throw my demented ideas all over their tunes .... great fun indeed !

davisamerica said 167 days ago

davisamerica said 167 days ago
lol .. got it!!!
annie lennox .... that's it .... dang alannah ... :-]

Alannah said 165 days ago
Now there's .....
.. a new one for the books ... Indian Annie Lennox .... interesting comparison ... I will now have to re-listen myself to hear the Annie reference ... although I do create some "different" stuff from time to time ... I am inspired by probably every female singer out there to some extent .... but I suppose we are all influenced by others in pretty much everything we do. Thanks for the kind words.

Outtaorbit said 167 days ago
My goodness
Morrison with a lilt.

Alannah said 165 days ago
Hmmm ...
... I've heard the Morrison reference before ... I suppose that puts me in excellent company indeed ! Although I must say .. it is fun to experiment in different genres and styles ... keeps one "fresh" .. thanks for the listen and comment.

oh my. I had not heard this song in any of it's earlier lives - but Alannah...what you have done here....

I love all the different vocals, coming from different places, lots of emotion - they all fit the music perfectly. This is brilliant. All of it. A wonderful melding of talent.

Alannah said 165 days ago
Thanks Kassia ...
.... I always say I am only as inspired as the music I hear and that by which I cannot keep my little experimentations off of .... the true magic on this tune belongs to Dreadmon and BadSmells for creating such a fabulous sound to begin with .... thanks for the listen and comment.

Shadowofnine said 166 days ago
you have
outdone the doers on this one A, what a delightful piece of music...

Dave

Alannah said 165 days ago
Thanks Dave ...
... your comments mean a lot to me as I know you are a master mind when it comes to creating music yourself .... I wish I could take credit for the whole tune .... but I am incapable of creating soundbeds myself ... so I content myself to adding my own interpretation to the music of others .. and am so grateful that so many Mjers are gracious enough to humour me in this regard.

Leon said 166 days ago
adventurous...
What i really am amazed about you is your willingness to get off the beaten path and create a path of your own. you are not afraid to experiment and create something new and unconventional. i give you high marks for boldness and creativity.

Alannah said 165 days ago
Boldness and Creativity ....
... this is what I love most about Macjams ... as I hope that people think along the same lines as I do .. that music is truly subjective ... and that there are no boundaries when it comes to creating something ... I do enjoy stretching my imagination once in a while just to see where it takes me ..... and find myself quite often straying from the conventional .... I think most of my offerings have definitely swayed away from the traditional method of music .. and this has been the fun of Mjs ... where all things are possible.

announcer said 166 days ago
The mind of Alannah
You make such interestingly different music, I wonder what your mind is like.

What would you be like to live with?
Would I love you ... or would I love to strangle you?

Whatever goes on inside you, we are the ones who reap the rewards of your creativity.

Another wonderful post.

Alannah said 165 days ago
Ah yes .....
.. that fine line between Genius and Madness ... HAHAHAHA To be honest ... there is a good likeliness that I would never attempt such a stretching of convention if I were singing at the Karaoke bar or something like that ... I would keep my (Crazy) tucked away ... but here at MJs .... it does give all of us the opportunity to experiment ... do wild and bold things ... and see what other people think of it .... p.s. you would love me!

Alannah said 161 days ago
Thanks M2
... the real compliment is when it is "podded" ..... amazing concept to think that there may be people from all over the globe ... maybe jogging and listening to something with my "tinker" on it ... on the ipod .... !!!

Diviner said 155 days ago
Wow
This is very good, I'm impressed. I had to laugh at Dee's comment, the guitars are very U2, however yours is better. Love the different layers of sounds that you merge together, it sounds very hypnotic and sensual (which matches the picture). Nice one Alannah

Alannah said 155 days ago
hahaha
... I'll have to check to see if BadSmells picked up on the U2 comment(s) ..... thanks for taking the time in the listen and the comments Diviner .... I'll re-read what you wrote tomorrow ... you know why .. hahahahaha

Bad Smells said 151 days ago
u2
aye....just took another listen and at 1:35 for about 10 seconds the harmonic cluster caused by the dulcimer, distorted guitar and clean guitar is a bit celtic punk or u2 sounding. Has to be one of the worst bands ever! How careless of me. :-)
More importantly....during this listen I noticed how keen your ear is Alannah and how well you can cover up my mistakes, bum notes and timing errors.
You did the same thing with 'Vampires'
http://www.macjams.com/song/20609
I'm looking forward to the day you post a song with you playing your acoustic.
You can do it. I know!

Nice , it has an India feel too .
A bit too long on one single key , but many good ideas.

Alannah said 142 days ago
India Feel ....
.. yes hence the mispronounced HINDI words ... hahaha or was it Punjabi words ... I forget now ... I got them off the internet ... sometimes these translation things just aren't the thing .... thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Ooo-lah!
Wow, Alannah - thanks for pointing out this track - I was on de road when you posted it. That original raga has got some serious life - a couple of fantastic collabs with Pete-NB and Bad Smells and then this treatment of yours gives it new wings entirely! And I'm sitting here trying to listen to it quietly because the missus is asleep - so it'll have to wait til morning, 'cause headphones just won't do - gotta have it rockin' the space! Your voice just keeps getting more wonderful and more intense; definitely looking forward to our next collab - hopefully soon!

Alannah said 133 days ago
Man oh man ...
.. see now I am of the belief that it all sounds so much better through the headphones .... maybe I just don't have the same stereo equipment that you do ..... so glad you approve of my crazy tinkerings .......
