Description My offering for the coffee shop - an acoustic love song dedicated to my wife, Becky. She deserves a symphony; this will have to do - for now...
Lyrics Struck Dumb

Softly as the ending of the day
She settles down in evening’s sweet embrace
The power of the word takes her away
Quickly lost in some exotic place
The summer breeze slips through the door
The curtain fills the room before
I reach across and trap it in my hand
She turns her head to look at me
Shaken from her reverie
She smiles a smile and turns another page

And here am I
Struck dumb again

In the street the weary kids parade
Laughing as they shuffle through the gloom
A television plays its own charade
Barking from a closed and distant room
The scent of grass, the joyful screams
The colors of a waking dream
Fill my senses softly to the brim
She tucks a hair behind an ear
Takes my hand to keep me near
Heart to heart without a single word

On I go, a traveler in time
I walk the world on roads that never end
She reaches me where no one else can find
And with a single touch I am born again

And now the day succumbs to night
And in the soft and fading light
She fights a yawn and holds the pages close
I flick the switch and golden glow
Illuminates this face I know
And in a heartbeat everything is clear

Worth waiting up for (it's 2am here)! The intro reminded me of early America. Really enjoyed this - downloaded. Production sounds very good- even through the iMac speakers!

Lyrics
David are often what has attracted me to your works. I first learned of you when aClarke I think posted a thread in the forum about your "favorite song of the day". He posted your "Find yourself" as his pick for the day.

When I first listened to this masterpiece I was amazed by the depth of the lyrics and the music. So many levels, so deep of a message.

You do a fantastic job on lyrics and on the music. That is why I jump to listen to everything new that you post.

Mark

dajama said 163 days ago
Thank you, Mark
Your kind words and support is so encouraging. I'm delighted that you find something in the words I cobble together that connects with you. I really believe that the true power of music is its ability to forge a connection. Thank you for all your support, and for finding that connection. Cheers, my friend. Peace.

Early America - I see why Peter said that. This is BEAUTIFUL!! I love your up-octave vocals in there. This is a coffeehouse winner. Wonderful, soulful tune - thanks!

dajama said 169 days ago
Thanks, Karen
I'm very happy you enjoyed this one. Glad you enjoyed it. I wasn't sure about adding the second vocal, or the lead, but then I decided I had a partner in the coffee house. Glad you think it sounded good. I was stunned (in a good way!) by your latest, by the way. Speaking of symphonies! Thanks for stopping by. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Hi David
A lovely song lyrically. The singing is spot on - I especially like the harmony parts. As always the guitar playing and recording is fantastic. I really like your signature "stero" guitar sound. The sound of the plectrum on the strings gives the strumming such a nice light and airy feel. Great listen - naturally I'll be downloading this!
Best wishes
Steve

dajama said 169 days ago
Thanks, Steve
I'm really glad you liked this. A compliment on guitar sound or playing is something coming from you! Thanks for the comment on the vocals, too. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the Download. Hope it stands up to repeated listening! Many thanks. Peace.

Just some great lyrics. I like the song discription,"she deserves a symphony". Great song in every way. Vocals are the tops with the soft guitar, over the top my friend.
Thanks, Russ
P.S I have been staying away from the coffee house music because I am still working on my entry, but I couldent resist.

dajama said 169 days ago
Thanks, man
I'm very glad you enjoyed this. Just been listening to your latest - very cool stuff. I avoided most of the coffee shop music myself too, because the few I listened to were so good I started to think I should just not bother! But I'm glad I went ahead. It was fun to limit myself as far as song form goes. Glad you liked it, my friend. Thanks for the encouraging words. Cheers. Peace.

oh i like the higher vocals they add a sense of mood. nice song. nice singing on this track. i like when the second guitar comes in. the opening to the solo with the lower notes really captures the listener.

dajama said 168 days ago
Thanks, dude
Yeah, I wasn't sure about adding the second vocal. I thought at one stage of just doing the bridge and chorus higher, but I felt it lost continuity, so I decided to allow myself to be two. Glad you like the lead - never my strong point! Thanks for listening and commented. Much appreciated as always. Cheers. Peace.

What a lovely song, David
thank you for the poetic glimpse into a moment in your life. Your appreciation of the little moments that could easily go unnoticed is touching. Great lyrics and coffeehouse performance! I love the picture, too. :-)

dajama said 168 days ago
Thanks so much
You hit the nail on the head; there are so many things that drag our attention away from the pleasure of a moment. There's nothing wrong with being busy, but sometimes it gets insane. I thought it might be nice to record one of the moments I did take the time to appreciate! Thank you for listening and commenting. I'm grateful for your encouraging words. Cheers. Peace.

a great guitar sound.Playing background guitar that well is a lot harder than it sounds. You have a wonderful expressive voice.Beautiful song!

dajama said 168 days ago
Thanks, man
I'm truly flattered by a compliment from you about my guitar playing! I know what you mean about the background guitar. I strum too much, I sometimes think, but I do like how it sounds when it hits the right rhythm. Thank you for stopping by and listening. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers. Peace.

Well...
i can hear how easily this could be received as, "a symphony of love" but hey, I'm easy and clearly, I'm not your target... It's pretty big what you've done here and, on many levels.

You have a wonderful singing voice. One can hear the gentleness of your love, but especially in these beautiful words that you've "strung" together.

A pretty wonderful gesture being hosted by, a pretty wonderful piece of music.

Thanks for getting on stage and being willing to share the graciousness of your efforts.

Clear and clean
Very nice nice song. The guitar sound is clean and clear, very light and easy to listen to. In my ears, the guitar solo is meandering and lacks the kind of melodic focus and smooth chromatic sense I like in an acoustic solo. Well mix and a wonderful addition to the Coffee House. thanks.

dajama said 167 days ago
Thank you kindly
Thanks, Tobin, for listening, and for such a thoughtful comment. Glad you like the guitar sound and happy you enjoyed the song. I know what you mean about the guitar solo - not one of my strong points! I may yet have another shot at that. Thanks again for listening. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

I like this coffee shop stuff...
This call for songs is bringing out a lot of good stuff.

You've written a sweet and simple song, but still stuck in some subtleties, such as the melody in octaves. That was cool.

those guitars sound just great. great changeup in the chorus.

dajama said 163 days ago
Thanks, dude
Glad you enjoyed it. I was a bit worried about the 'bareness' of the track, but then I just kept telling myself 'It's a coffee shop, it's a coffee shop...'! And then I was fine. Knowing me, I'll probably do a multi-instrumental version of it some day! Thanks for stopping by. Happy you liked it. Cheers. Peace.

Lovely guitar sound David
I like everything here - good song, well played/sung and a top production. In the second section (after the first chorus) has a touch of Richard Clapton in the vocals. Richard is a seriously good Australian singer/songwriter - worth looking him up, I think you mightfind some further inspiration there.

Lovely post David!

Cheers from Oz.
Neil

dajama said 160 days ago
Thanks Neil
I really enjoyed your coffee shop post and I'm delighted you like this one. Thanks for the nod on the guitar sound - in a song like this, where so much of the soundspace is dominated by that one sound, it had better be palatable to the ear! Don't know Richard Clapton, but I will be sure to check him out. Many thanks for stopping by and checking this one out. Much appreciated, as always. Cheers. Peace.

David this is such a great song
Love the lyrics, some of the best I've heard in a long while. Your vocal is clean and rich and warm. It fits the character of the song oh so well my friend. You also have an excellent harmony singer working with you to help fill up the fulness of the lyrics

The simple back track allows the song to shine on the merits of the vocal and lyrics, while adding gently to the feel of the song.

This is a great piece of work Dave of which you can be justly proud. Bravo for a job done very well indeed.

Ed

dajama said 135 days ago
Thank you, my friend
I'm flattered. The lyrics are really just a snapshot I guess, of a moment, and I'm glad you think they work. As for the music, I always feel at risk when I present something with so little instrumental accompaniment, just because it does expose the voice and song. I'm delighted you found the result enjoyable. Many thanks. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.
