Description This is a song I wrote a long time ago. Maybe, ten years or so even. I used to work in an office at a newspaper, long hours doing photography, darkroom and design. After a few years I developed some form of depression and started taking wild trips to make myself feel better.

This song arose out of those feelings and that special feeling you get when you're traveling for the sake of traveling. More or less as a panacea with no destination or goals in mind. I don't even remember where this chord progression came from, but I always ended up playing it whenever I picked up my acoustic guitar and felt the need to get out of my situation.

I feel like the chord progression has both a sad and a hopeful feeling at the same time. It reminds me of my road trips out of Montana, they took me to Canada, Alaska, Washington, Oregon and most memorably to a guitar building school in Vancouver Island, BC where I received the weissenborn that I played the slide melody on, I feel the weissenborn slide completes the piece.

I realise the recording methods cheapen the sound somewhat, but I've once again learned a lot about recording in the process of this song, and it definitely makes me wish I could get my dream recording setup sooner, so I can re-record this song. My guitars don't really sound this muddy and toneless. You'll see someday this summer, when I get my new recording gear.

For now though, I just needed to record this song and put it out there. Hope you like it. Thanks for listening.

Beautiful sounds
that complement a good story too, i can see some of the palces you describe above in this music. You have a great feeling in all your playing, this one is great. I know the long hours in a darkroom feeling i have done years of that, you still do photography?

Elevator_Funk said 175 days ago
Glad you
stopped in to listen. I don't really do photography much anymore, except when I travel. I did get hired to do a bball tournament in March. lt was fun, brought back some memories. Now I have too many hobbies though, so photography is the one that got pushed aside....

Thanks for your description of this song, it really tells the story of the music I'm hearing. I like your chord progressions, and the kind of "easy feel" this song has. The sounds of the Weissenborn slides are great. This ends kind of abruptly - I only wish it had been a bit longer!

I'm
glad you stopped in to listen. I'll probably add an extra minute or so to the song if I get a chance to re-record it with real mics.

Traveling
What gorgeous playing and what a nicely evocative piece of music, too. It absolutely captures that feeling of the open road in front of you and not knowing what's ahead, but looking forward to it, anyway.

Elevator_Funk said 175 days ago
thanks
for the encouraging comment. glad the feelings came thru

I think this is absolutely perfect the way it is. Gorgeous - in composition, tone and performance. A beautiful piece of soothing music. Thank you.

Dreamy
Nice and laidback feel.

You're right, a better setup will make it sound a bit fuller in tone. I'm missing some highs here.

Elevator_Funk said 173 days ago
thanks for listening
I agree. This will definitely be one to re-record someday with good gear. Thanks again.

Nice
Nice chord progression and slide playing Brian! I remember spending long hours in the dark room at school learning photography so I can sort of relate to what that feels like. This song definitely reminds me of the open road. I hope you used a convertible! This should definitely be re-recorded when you upgrade!

Elevator_Funk said 165 days ago
Thanks for listening
Convertible? Yes! Actually one of the road trips was in a '81 Z28 Camaro with T-Tops, it was great. I got about 12 MPG. It broke down lots, I had some random strangers help me fix it. It was actually a fun road trip. ... and yes I still like this song and plan on re-recording it when I can...

T-Top, awesome! Memories to last a life time I am sure!

Beautiful...
I would agree with you on the sad and hopeful feeling. I wasn't put off by the lack of highs, it was really warm and I like that with acoustic guitars. I found your stuff through the "digitech" thread. I see you feel the RP 350 ruined the signal, I got a good chuckle out of that. I just bought one 4 days ago. I mic my acoustic so it won't be an issue for me I suppose. Thanks for a great song and the download.

thanks for listening. I hope that 350 works out for you. I hope to go all analog and sell the 350 on ebay someday.
