Description Composed by Henry Purcell and featured in the motion picture
"A Clockwork Orange".

Henry Purcell
(born 1659; died Westminster, 21 November 1695).

He was a chorister in the Chapel Royal until his voice broke in 1673, and he was then made assistant to John Hingeston, whom he succeeded as organ maker and keeper of the king's instruments in 1683. In 1677 he was appointed composer-in-ordinary for the king's violins and in 1679 succeeded his teacher, Blow, as organist of Westminster Abbey. It was probably in 1680 or 1681 that he married. From that time he began writing music for the theatre. In 1682 he was appointed an organist of the Chapel Royal. His court appointments were renewed by James II in 1685 and by William III in 1689, and on each occasion he had the duty of providing a second organ for the coronation. The last royal occasion for which he provided music was Queen Mary's funeral in 1695. Before the year ended Purcell himself was dead; he was buried in Westminster Abbey on 26 November 1695.

I can't
believe I may have beaten Feter! I don't know how you did this but it sounds amazing. Purcell was a great composer-I used to play a bunch of guitar transcriptions from "The Fairy Queen"- incredible music.I'm glad you posted this, now I need to dig out some old cds of Purcell music!

Purcell's...
...a great composer. I'm floored by the quality of sound from Amadeus II...

Glad to hear your stuff, again, Scotty.

Wow-
Great instrumentation. Nice space and depth here, too. It's amazing to me that through all the changes we've seen in culture and environment in the last 300 years, this music still has the ability to move me and I can hear and feel the sense of mourning it conveys.
Thanks for also providing the music background. That's always so interesting!

Ah... Great Scotty
I tend to forget about Henry Purcell for years, then find his stuff again and kick myself for ignoring his works. I always associate trumpets & brass with him, and you've chosen some great sounding brass here! Excellent touches to make this sound real. I can hear some very meticulous tweaking on some of the notes to sound live-played. Love the spaciousness, with the long-reverb bass-drum. As always, carefully mixed. Love your work!

It is so inspiring
to read your description as I am typing away while listening to this gem. (It seems all your music are gems.
But the description is real quite striking with the music MO. You really provided here a feast of classical music culture on a high level in my opinion.

A real treat!

Thanks for uploading!!!!

The pict
was great as well . Really added nice image-ambience to the production!

I enjoy your picts on all your music. Thank goodness MJ has that added in the upload. Especially how you have mastered that end to a degree that I am not only going to get quality in music but also in description and pics.

A great three combination I think! You don't get that much in albums that have been popular in our culture to the degree that we have it available here at MJ!

Purcell was Peerless.
Every since hearing Britton's use of Abdelazar in his The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra I've been a life long fan.
I love what you've done with this remarkable piece of music Scottie. All of its great and solemn dignity is captured in your thrilling recreation. It's ironic that a death could inspire such a magnificent living work of art.
Bravo

Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary
Wow!! What a production I can just imagine the funeral procession and the drummer in front of the funeral cars, driving slowely behind. and the rest of the music playing in the distance. Loved it :)
