Description A song that started out gloomy and turned into this. Don't look at me - I just work here...
Lyrics Soul Free Miracle

I could be the only one
Who really knows you truly
Every scar you try to cover
Every old mistaken lover

But how do you deserve to fall
When everyone around you
Tricks and talks and drowns in sorrow
Burning like there’s no tomorrow
Still we all end up alive and alone

And I can taste your maniac tears
Yeah I can hear the music stuck in your head
You’ve gone and wasted all of those years
Waiting for a decontaminated soul free miracle song

You could be the only one
Who truly knows this feeling
Park the car and hold position
Crying for the world you’re missing

But why do I get up at all
When everyone around me
Slumbers in their own delusion
Battered by their own confusion
Still we all end up alive and alone

Hit the road and sail the seven seas
I don’t know how the world could ever be
Stranger than here

I could be the only one
Who truly knows this feeling
Park the car and hold position
Singing for the life I’m missing

Way cool song David
It's got an unusual meter to it, but somehow you make it really work good. Great vocal and lyrics my friend and the back track are very cool.

Love what you've done here especially the mix which is right on the mark.

Love it in spite of myself, it's a great song David.

Thanks, Ed
I'm very happy you liked this one. Lyrically, it's a bit obtuse, so I'm glad you enjoyed the words, and I'm delighted the mix works for you, because it was hard to get it to sound anything like the way I wanted it to! Thank you so much for stopping by and listening. Greatly appreciated. By the way, love the funk on your latest, and looking forward to the next stage in its evolution. Cheers. Peace.

Lovely sound David!
I really like this - great production, playing and writing. Your vocals continue to improve, as does your writing. My only suggestion is that the hihats seem to be panned a little too far left to my taste - in fact the whole kit could possibly be centred just a tad. A personal preference only. Nice words too.
Bravo!
Neil

jiguma said 178 days ago
btw
I really like the actual kit track - problem is just with the panning - the drums sound really good otherwise.

Thanks for stopping by and checking this one out. Glad you liked it, and I really appreciate your comments on the writing and vocals. This one took a while to get the sound right (or as close to right as I ever get!) and I'm glad you think it worked. As for the panning on the drums, I'm not sure what I can do about that - there are two drum tracks, and both are centered at 0. I wonder if maybe it's an element of the original loop? I'll listen more and see if there's something I can figure out. Thanks as always for your careful listening. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

jiguma said 177 days ago
panning
yes David, probably is part of the original loop - I have to say that you've managed those loops really well. Sounds like it could be good midi drums.

Impressed!

Soul Free Miracle
I like the unusualness of this a lot. Your lyrics and vocals are really good. Wish I could mix like this!

dajama said 177 days ago
Thanks, Karen
I'm very glad you enjoyed it. Happy to hear it's likable unusualness! And thank you very much for your nice words about the vocals and production. I think mixing and mastering is often a bit of a guessing game for me, and I'm always delighted (and not a little surprised!) when someone finds the sounds I make palatable. Thanks again. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Glad you enjoyed this. Thank you especially for the nice words about the singing - I'll take "thoughtful" any day as a comment on my singing! Glad you liked the guitar, too. Glad you stopped by. Your support and encouragement is much appreciated as always. Cheers. Peace.

Great
song David - production sounds very good - everything is well balanced - vocals are nice and clear. Your voice is excellent and the solo's very well played. Superb!

indeed a very good mix, every single instrument can be heard and appreciated, the bass ang guitar simple dance together, very impressive, mate.

dajama said 177 days ago
What a cool image
The bass and guitar dance together - I love it, and I'm very flattered. I tried to keep this one simple as far as instrumentation, so there are just two acoustic guitar tracks for most of the song, with the bass, of course, and then the riff played over the chorus. Strangely, I found it harder to mix this than usual! Really happy you enjoyed this one. I really enjoyed your latest, and I'll be by to heck out your earlier postings. Cheers. Peace.

Moviz said 177 days ago
I always
like your music and your vocals are so nice and fresh sounding. Great lyrics, though as Sloparts says it's an unusual meter..... still very enjoyable, Great sounds, mix and production, regards M

dajama said 177 days ago
Thanks, Maurice
I'm really glad you enjoyed this one. I'm very appreciative of your continuing support and your always encouraging words. I guess I hadn't realized this had an unusual meter (shows what I know!) but I'm happy you think it works. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Cheers. Peace.

Especially cool
Kind of a country feel to it, too. With a sort of Beatles charm. Outstandingly written song.
You are a very good songwriter, do you know that?

LL

dajama said 177 days ago
Thanks, man
Beatles charm? Thanks for making my night, man! Actually, make that my week! Glad you liked it, dude. Country feel, eh? Never thought of that, but I hear it now you mention it. Honestly, I never know what I'm coming up with until it's finished. If I tried to write a country song, it would probably sound like The Velvet Underground or something. That's why I shy away from some of the challenges; I don't have the chops to achieve a "sound" as such (having said that, I am working on something for the Live Aid challenge - it'll probably sound like Elbow or something...!) So I'm always fascinated when people tell me what they hear in anything I do, especially when it's from a terrific songwriter like yourself! Thanks for listening, dude. Much appreciated as always. Cheers. Peace.

lavalamp said 176 days ago
Same here
When I try to write a country song, something like the Velvet Underground comes out, too. Although, I'm not much of a fan of country, I do like some of it, especially the older stuff.

Great song, once again.

excellent tune
has a nice simplicity groove that flows.

Quality throughout and radio friendly. I think you have really got your vocals down, because they are sounding great. A nice flavor of George Harrison style with this as well.

dajama said 177 days ago
Thanks, Vic
I'm delighted you enjoyed this one. And thank you so much for the comment on the vocals. I'm flattered! This was one of those songs that seemed to require an extra something in the singing to get it to sound right. I don't think I quite got it (I never do, to be honest...) but I gave it my best shot, and I'm happy you liked it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Cheers. Peace.

Maniac Tears
What great lyrics, David. I think everyone probably knows the feeling of singing or crying for the life they're missing at some point or another. The lines "Yeah I can hear the music stuck in your head/You've gone and wasted all of those years/Waiting for a decontaminated soul free miracle song" really hit home for me, tremendously. It's my own personal schtuff, but what you wrote really spoke to me.

People have mentioned George Harrison. There's something that reminds me of Buddy Holly, too, although I can't put my finger on exactly what. I also think you get such a nice warm sound out of your mixes. I really enjoyed this one and have downloaded it to enjoy again.

Lisa

dajama said 177 days ago
Thanks, Lisa
I think I can safely say there is no higher praise you can give a song (at least one of my songs!) than to say it made sense to you on some level. If it speaks to you, then that is immensely encouraging. I'm very happy you connected with this one, and delighted you liked the mix. Warmth was one of the things I was aiming for; in earlier mixes, however, the warmth ended up sounding a bit thick and sludgy (I believe that's the technical term...) so it took a while to get here. Glad you think it works. Buddy Holly, eh? Now that's what I'm talking about! Thanks again, Lisa. Peace.

guitapick said 177 days ago
Cool mix...
...of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Elvis, and dajama...

Original and refreshing. I agree with sloparts comments, too...

Wow
What a combination! Now you're just trying to mess with my head! Thanks indeed for such a flattering comment. I'm delighted you enjoyed this one. Many thanks. Much appeciated. Cheers. Peace.

Your lyrics blow me away, I read then listen, again and again, and still I wonder. Great tune, Great Mix.
Thanks,Russ

dajama said 176 days ago
Thanks, Russ
I really appreciate the nice words about the lyrics. When I write a song, I often have a fragment of a line, or even just a few words as I write the music. Turning that into finished lyrics is often a hard slog! I'm very happy that you think they work. Thanks for listening and commenting. Much appreciated. Cheers. Peace.

Glad you liked the sound. It was a bit of a struggle to get his to sound right, and I'm happy you enjoyed the end result. Thanks for stopping by and listening. Cheers. Peace.

Ejh said 174 days ago
Sounds like you borrowed...
...one of Vic's pedals for that solo...

I continue to love your feel for both melody and lyric writing. You're also doing some very tight vocal doubling in here...

I'm also conscious of the nice tight blend of the bass and drums and acoustic guitar(s). You get a really nice, even, subtle acoustic rhythm guitar part here, and elsewhere...

Love that title...'Soul Free Miracle'...

Ed

dajama said 173 days ago
Thanks, Ed
Glad you liked this one. And thank you for the comment on the solo sound. No pedals involved, I'm afraid, all software, but I did a lot of fiddling around to get that sound. In fact, it was going to have the same 'cleaner' sound as the earlier guitar part, but I was getting a buzz that was too distracting. So I went for distortion! When in doubt...Thanks also for your nice words about the singing. I'm delighted you enjoyed it. Cheers. dude. Peace.
