Description Nurse Death
by woofer3

written June 2002 in Lincoln, England.
This is based on an event which took place in Devon Drive, Nottingham in September 1935. Old Nurse Death's real name was Dorothea Nancy Waddingham. She originally came from a poor family in the village of Hucknall, seven miles north of Nottingham. Her trial started on 14th.February 1936 and she was found guilty of murder on 27th. She was then removed to Winson Green Prison, Birmingham where on 16th April 1936 she was executed. - somehow I couldn't help feeling sorry for poor nurse Death - though I don't know why. She is also featured in the film,- Pierrepoint which is about the British hangman.

Lyrics Nurse Death by woofer3 [2002]

NURSE DEATH
verse 1 Dorothea Nancy, why did you do it,
you must have known they'd get you when it came to light.
a self styled nurse who administered poison,
never gave a thought to whether wrong or right,
they all changed their wills and they all left their money,
to Dorothea Nancy the resident nurse,
little did they know that they were signing up a contract,
making a decision that was really a curse.

chorus . nurse death, nurse death,
you're gonna pay the price when they call your name,
nurse death, nurse death,
they're gonna hang you up in the hall of shame.

verse 2 Ada and Louisa were two sad victims-
mother and daughter caught up in the snare,
Dorothea Nancy had given them the morphine-
meted out with tenderness and loving care.
they couldn't have known they were both in danger-
they couldn't have noticed what was right ahead,
they didn't realize that if they kept on trusting-
the residend nurse they would wind up dead.

repeat chorus

verse 3 Dorothea Nancy stood for trial in Nottingham-
charged with double murder in the first degree,
the jury said yes, brought her closer to the limit-
and put her into focus for the world to see.
Dorothea Nancy you should have known better,
you should have realized just where you stood,
now you're just a name and a number that's forgotten,
doing what you did and never should.

chorus-repeating to end.

woofer3 said 226 days ago
Hi Mark-
I wrote this while I was staying in Lincoln England, not very far from where nurse death lived, I bought a crime book in a shop there and one of the short stories in it was named Nurse Death, so I read about her and wrote most of the song on a scrap of paper while sitting on a public bench in the shopping precinct. As usual it was the title that started me off. This song did get some radio play.

Thanks for listening and commenting.

yes, I love writing
quirky little pieces like this, I have written another one about Neil Cream the victorian doctor/killer who they reckon was one of the first serial killers.

Thanks for dropping by, glad you liked it.

Hi Feter
a real life nurse all on the NHS - when I was in hospital a few years back all the nurses were lovely and I have thought about them every day since. However I'm not too sure about nurse Dorothea.....

Thank you Feter, much appreciated.

Dai Marley strikes again
Absolutely love this John. This has one of the best choruses I have ever heard. It should have had loads of radio play.
That picture's enough to send chills into anyone.
Downloaded. Thanks.
Cheers
Len

now look 'ere boyo-
what's all this Dia Marley bizness, indeed to goodness !!!

Yes I agree about the picture...it's enough to freeze your blood, and when you think of what must have been going on behind those eyes, it doesn't bear thinking about. She makes an appearance in the film Pierrpoint as well which I have still to see.

Anyway Len I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for listening.

This is
why I fear hospitals, if it isn't infection and bacteria it's nurse death that'll do you in! Total Zevonesque touch John!

woofer3 said 225 days ago
yes well your fears
would have been well founded in her case I think.

Thanks for listening and for your comments.

Best wishes,

John.

amazingly
good woofer. What a dazzling talent. I just don't know if i've heard the likes of your talent here at MJ,. From the chorus so smooth and timely done. To the that so infectiously vocal lead that is about uniquely good as i've ever heard at MJ.

Ya, I think mark said it right, hit factory. Wow!

Very smooth rock hits I might add.

WaY TO go!

Maxwell's silver hammer...
Cheerful ditties about gruesome murders. The British are such cheerful people. Must be that sunny weather.

Nurse Death.
I read the story from the link that you put up at the top of the page.
You sing this brilliant. My little sweetie pie LoL
love the music that you have put together as well really catchy tune.
great lyrics as well as always.
Sorry I am late. I feel bit tired at the moment, . Wow! what I read - really surprised me about the-
second names of the sisters - and the way Nurse Death Dorethea looked strange really weird :)

I do think though that its the poor Ugly Looking Folk that are more likely to turn into criminals than the nicer looking ones.
Perhaps for a variety of reasons suppose. Probably not loved as much by the parents
or ridiculed when children all takes its toll I guess.

Greed !!! Well they do say Money Is The Root of all Evil- Title of your next one perhaps ha ha.

Peace Dee xx

woofer3 said 224 days ago
I'm sorry you're a bit
lack lustre at the moment Dee, still you'll soon be over it. The story of this case is interesting, I read a book dedicated to it a couple of years back. Thanks for listening Dee.
