Description Been listening to some old blues players like Scrapper Blackwell,Blind Blake, etc. This song is a little different than what they would have played (I snuck in a couple of jazz chords) but in the same spirit.

Sweet
Very sweet and nicely played! I could listen to this all day. I'm hearing a bit of Doc Watson in there, I think. Very cool!

Ibstrat said 185 days ago
Probably
the 1st song that I ever figured out in this style was"Deep River Blues" by Doc.I think he only picks with 2 fingers on his right hand!

thoddi said 186 days ago
Move over Chet
What pleasant mood and great playing you serve us. You play this style with confidence and deliver the music without the complexity of the technique getting in the way. Brilliant!

Ibstrat said 184 days ago
Glad
you enjoyed it.I highly value your opinion!

damiengh said 186 days ago
Parlor is packed
The parlor at the after hours is packed. Lots of action going on upstairs and serious card playin going on at tables downstairs.

But ole' Mark, he's got the front hall parlor jammed up with all them pretty ladies in a daze, mesmerized by those fancy hypnotic fingers, moving along his ornately inlayed fretboard, laying down luscious lines between them fancy cityboy chords.

Thanks for transporting us back to them Joplinisque ragtime days.

Ibstrat said 184 days ago
Only one
problem-they didn't make Ibanez Strats back then!Actually that is exactly the atmosphere I was going for,Thanks for the cool comment.

lengold said 186 days ago
Thanks for
letting us all hear your amazing talent Mark. Yes, I've decided amazing is the correct word. Another Master piece.
Cheers
Len

Ibstrat said 184 days ago
Thanks for the comment
Lengold- not really a masterpiece(probably doesn't stand up to Mozart's Jupiter symphony)but I'm really glad you liked it!

Birdman Wayne said 186 days ago
Great!
This is an amazing piece, fits what I'm listening to these days (Watson, Breau, Atkins...). The quality is excellent and the playing is superb as usual. Thanks for another piece to my collection!

Take Care

Love the overall sound quality Mark, and the playing is at it usual outstanding level.

And I have to agree with lengold, your playing is amazing. Kudos my friend.

Ed

Ibstrat said 184 days ago
Thanks Ed
not sure about "amazing" take a look at Danny Gatton playing on youtube-that's amazing!

Skean said 186 days ago
You're amazing
This is a master piece I agree with Clark I could listen on this all day.
The man who let it sounds easy that is you... Love it.

You're
just genetically incapable of hitting any wrong notes! Dang! Another Stand-out piece and a very happy one at that!

Ibstrat said 184 days ago
Ha Ha
you should hear some of the other takes of this I did !

PickQuick Records said 186 days ago
Man..
you make me want to stop playing and take up the bass or something every time I hear a tune from you.

I just love your playing Mark.

Stellar to say the least.

C.

BTW, A little "Django" in there?

Ibstrat said 183 days ago
It's
nice to find open-minded people here.A lot of people that specialize in a one type of music (esp. jazz, classical and metal)look down on other styles.I had a jazz- head teacher once make fun of me when he heard me play a Joplin Rag. I really enjoy what guys like you and Allen Dean are doing on this site.I can't touch that kind of playing!Keep it up.

Montgomery California said 179 days ago
true,
but what most of those people do not realize, is without blues, jazz and dixieland, rock, and metal, never would exist. it is the evolution of music which should be appreciated, not just one form over another. beautiful piece of music, my friend... thank you for the post.
Allen

Ibstrat said 179 days ago
Absolutely
true-There has been great music made for centuries.Unfortunately most kids only hear a tiny fraction of it because of peer pressure,or exposure to only video game songs and top 40 radio.

Moviz said 186 days ago
That
wonderful clarity is always evident in your songs Mark and I love this style of playing..... just rolls along as though the notes are rolling off your fingers without effort. I agree with Damiengh about the Joplin style/sound, excellent, cheers M

Ibstrat said 183 days ago
Thanks
a lot Moviz.I'm glad you enjoyed it!

announcer said 186 days ago
Mr. Strat
Good stuff ... as always. Nice job of recording too.

I like what Thoddi said here about the style and confidence. So many people grab the instrument (guitar especially) with the idea of impressing people with the technique instead of using impeccable technique to impress us with the song.

Ibstrat said 183 days ago
Thanks
Announcer- I'm glad you liked the song.I kind of lost my appetite for show-off type playing a long time ago,but being a guitar player it's pretty hard to shake.Guitarists can be pretty competitive sometimes!

Ejh said 186 days ago
Reminds me...
...of Pete Kairo and Guy Van Duser...that whole 'stride guitar' thing...

I've gotta say, Mark, you're one of the guys in this world who dived into technique, and got all the technical stuff down, and came out the other side with whole vast acreage of your wryly joking soul intact...

What matter if some of us continue to yearn for your definitive metal statement?

Always a pleasure....

Ed

Ibstrat said 183 days ago
Guy van Duser
is quite an amazing player.I copied some of his stuff years ago- it's pretty complicated, don't think I could ever compete with that!By the way I think you should win an honorary award for most insightful comments!

jiguma said 186 days ago
:)
Good to hear some real playing Mark - you have such a way with those 6 strings.

Impressed in Oz - and your recordings are getting better and better each time.

Cheers,
Neil

Ibstrat said 182 days ago
Thanks
Neil- I actually feel a little weird getting recognition considering the dirt basic way I am recording compared to what a lot of other people are doing here.At least I think I (mostly) got rid of the buzz!

MarkHolbrook said 186 days ago
Awesome guitar sound
No doubt you are one of the masters!

Man I would kill to play g'tar even half as nice.

Thanks so much for this!

Ibstrat said 182 days ago
Don't
think I'm a master by any stretch of the imagination, but thanks for the compliment!

guitapick said 186 days ago
Yep...
...Blind Blake would be looking for some lessons, I do believe...

Another great submission...such a pleasure listening to your stuff, Mark. You playing out, lately?

Ibstrat said 182 days ago
Well
I did play an open mike with one of my students(9 yrs. old) about 6 months ago(We played "Head's Up" by Freddie King)but that's about it!

Elevator_Funk said 186 days ago

nice and mellow. Great little melody. Recording quality is excellent.

Ibstrat said 181 days ago
Thanks
really enjoying your music.

thetiler said 185 days ago
Enjoyed
Chet Atkins thumbpick sound, plus the electric sound you get. Not sure if you used the thumbpick but it doesn't have that thump chet sound.

I think it would be great if you list how you obtained this sound. It would be interesting to know!

It sounds like you have a chorus added, not sure what type of guitar
Enjoyed though.

Way to Go!

Ibstrat said 185 days ago
No Thumpick
I actually never use one.I'm playing an old Ibanez Strat copy.I've had problems with my left hand for years(They think it's something called RSD)-this is the only guitar I can play that doesn't trigger a bizarre pain cycle.Even an almost identical guitar with the same strings doesn't work!Really strange.I'm dying to play acoustic but it's too painful.I'm recording thru a Line6 Gearbox with a little reverb. The pickup switch is in the in-between position which might make it sound a little chorusy.Glad you liked the song!

Macaudion said 185 days ago
Rolling, indeed...
But still a bit of rocking, I keep focusing and listening to the bass line in this for some reason. Kind of a jolly little feller/gal, this tune is! In in event, there's a bit of light hearted playfulness going on here; I like that!

Great Job, Mark! As always!!! Thanks! Macca

ps - thanks for the freebie!

it's a bit...
hard to believe that the tone is a solidbody electric. It must be in the hands. Record quality is improve as well Mark. Superb!

Thanks
for checking out my song. The thing with my hand is real weird-it seems to be permanent.Maybe I can find a doctor somewhere that can help but so far no luck!

Scott Carmichael said 183 days ago
Sheesh Mark
what do you charge an hour for lessons??? I love the vocabulary that you bring to each piece you play... you're something else pal...

Ibstrat said 179 days ago
You
know I read in your blog the thing about Steve Howe- the same thing happened to me- I was obsessed for awhile.I started reading in interviews how he was influenced by Julian Bream,Chet Atkins,Wes Montgomery, etc. Then I checked out those guy's influences.I'm kind of a Jack -of-all-trades master of none.I never settled on one thing!

perceptualvortex said 181 days ago

BossHook said 180 days ago
Wow
the hardest thing to do is to pull of something so "easy back porch listenin'" when anyone who has strapped on a 6 string knows how hard it is to do. It's what made Chet Atkins so popular - not his skill, but his ability to make it translate to common listenin' folk.

Ibstrat said 178 days ago
Chet
probably would not be popular today however- you need to fly over the crowd on a wire and smash your guitar like Garth Brooks!

VicDiesel said 180 days ago
Impeccable as always
Your playing is above all tasteful. Not a note out of place, and everything played with seemingly the utmost ease.

A pleasure as always.

Ibstrat said 178 days ago
Thanks
Vic.There are some things on there I'd like to fix but I still haven't figured out how to punch out mistakes!

kassia said 179 days ago
sweet indeed
defintely that "back porch" lazy day feel to this one. perfectly played and great sound. There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said already - another great tune from you. Thanks!

Very cool, laid back vibe. There's a jauntiness to this that makes me smile. Great playing, and a lovely, lovely sound from your guitar. Very nicely done, my friend. Thanks as always for sharing your great musicianship. Kudos. Peace.

Don't know how I missed this but I'm glad I caught up eventually. I find it realy hard to pick on electric guitars and I realy admire your skill in being able to get this sounding so clean. Nothing more to add - just excellent all round!
Thanks
