Description From Cat:

As I live in the second-driest state in the U.S., I actually love rainy days. But as I approached this Open Collaboration song (and influenced by the song art) on michael2's composition 'I'm Uneasy' http://www.macjams.com/song/42752, this seemed the perfect 'rainy day' song.

With that in mind, I composed the lyrics and recorded the vocals. As usual, I ended up with more vocals than needed. Working with Bryn, then, on a creative way to incorporate them all, this turned into a SonicMagpie venture :)

Thank you, michael, for letting us add to your track!
Thank you, Bryn, for another fab sonic adventure!

Instrumental 'I'm Uneasy'--michael 2

Lyrics ...just another kind of weather
who can tell if it gets better
in it for the whole duration
get off at another station
never mind the incongruence
stars and sun and moon influence
revel in precipitation
get on at another station..

Everywhere I think to turn
Everywhere I think to look
Everywhere I want to go
'Everywhere' just tells me 'no'

Everyone I try to see
Everyone looks right through me
Everyone is everywhere
'Everyone,' is no one there?

CHORUS:
Won't stop raining...
And I'm still complaining
Daze in sunshine?
It's not my time.
(Won't be my time?)

Every time I try to climb
Every time I want to see
Every time I take a chance
'Every time' is cheating me

Everything is not so simple
Everything's not as it seems
Everything is thing enough
'Everything' subsides in dreams

CHORUS

it's quite absurd...this never-ending rain
It's quite unheard of..this mass delusion
it's quite a chore to hope for the best
it's quite a joke to confuse the rest

Hardware this, that and the other
Software: the usual suspects

Both of you
have done a fantastic job with Michael's excellent soundbed. The vocals are very lovely - I especially like the harmonies. Great lyrics too. Loved it.
Cheers

Cat..
..power! A perfect indie pop song - great vocal, really wonderful crisp delivery girly!

Mystified said 236 days ago
hehe...that 'crisp delivery'...
..is a byproduct of classical voice training and sometimes I try to 'lazy' it out of my voice, but this time, I was purposely trying to include a 'patter song' kind of song somewhere. (genre, schmenre!)
Originally, I was going to drop that part of it from the mix, but then bryn and I tried some things to include it.

Thanks for listening and leaving a comment! Glad you enjoyed this, Steve :)

Something about this
combination reminds me of the band 'His Name Is Alive' (just occasionally they would record an accessible song and this is the sort of material I hoped for, but rarely got, on their albums). I liked Michael's tune anyway and your additions are excellent.

Excellent!

Wonderful
performance as always and this collab sounds great. You did a lovely job with the vocals, the harmonies and the mix. The lyrics sound so in keeping with the backing music, regards M

I loved everything ..

.. well sung, evocative imagery in the lyrics (nice contrasting sundial and raining day art .. can see the inspiration) .. everyone does their part in nicely understated fashion .. adding to the whole. Loved the ending.

only niggle was the snare choice.. but that's most likely a taste thing.

Well done to you all: Michael, Bryan and Cat.

well
and a amazed "right then" ... guys this is stellar ... very nice!

michael2 said 235 days ago
wow
you guys, this is stellar. i'm totally blown away by that intro and the bridge is great (loving the effected vox on that part). cat, your vocals sound great and I just can't say enough good things about this. great job guys.

Reminds me a little
of Yo La Tengo except a little a different quality to the Georgia Hubley character. The lead vocal sounds a bit compressed or muffled. Maybe it's just dry. I like the counter-melody panning. cool stuff!

bonnieprincejohnny said 235 days ago
Totally fab.
Won't stop raining - lovely bassline schweet vocal - prima. Well done Mystified.

lavalamp said 235 days ago
Amazing
Only gripe, wish the intro were longer.

Other than that, absolutely great in all ways. This is what it's all about.

wow
this has a feeliing of the female r&b's groups that had hits in the 50s and 60's. Like Little Eva and others. Lots of cool singing sounds for sure.

Such versatility in your styles, enjoyed the talking as well.
Plus the arrangement was a real treat, loved that infectious rhythm !

kickin' chicken!
goshdarnit, how do I get in on one of these ber-collabs? do you guys have a secret club or something? do you all wear capes and drink aperitif while observing doped-up soundbyte giraffes as they twitch on your ber-club operating tables? and do you all throw your heads back when you laugh at something? god, please tell me you all adopt fake british accents! lemmeinlemmeinlemmein! I won't teach anybody the secret handshake, not for a million jellybeans!

Great work my friends. I must agree, Cat this is one of your very best vocal deliveries. Amazing work by Sirs Bryn and Mikey on the music... KUDOS, really fine piece of work.

Applause and applesauce!
The sound of the drums is so strange. Like they are in a corner in a wet box with a bunch of stale donuts... but I'm sure that's exactly what you were going for...
The whole tune has a very English feel.
Familiar and new.
Vocals work nicely into the track. Nice use of double tracking.
Applause and applesauce to all of you!

Another really great track
Its really good to see how collabs can evolve and then see how the finished article turns out. Its a really good track and sung so well. Brilliant.

P.s. Living in one of the rainest countries, the chorus really means alot esp 'Won't stop raining, And I'm still complaining'. LOL, the British people are good complainers.
