Description Well I've been playing in the laboratory again and this time I've polished up the last Experiment I posted the other day.

I think it's better, but you'll have to judge for yourselves.

Thanks for you patience, and for listening to the ravings of an old man.

Ed

p.s.
Please forgive me for not identifying this as a piece of music made up entirely of loops. The first version said that, but I forgot to mention it on this one when I first posted it. Also, It is in C minor, not C major. as was originally stated in the title.

Thank you Feter Again
You are such a good friend, you're always there with encouraging words and comments, and not just for me, for everyone. You are a very special person Feter and I'm honored to be able to include you as a friend.

I don't know if it's right yet, but it is better, at least to my ears. And since that's the only way I have of judging it I have to rely on others with much more musical expertise than I have for comments and critiquing of my work.

Thanks you again for you kind words Feter, they really mean a lot to me.

Be well my friend and stay cool.

Experiment
I really like the textures and rhythmic things going on here. There's a lot of energy in this piece. The ending is a little abrupt, but overall some very nice sounds.

Thank you Chip
I've never done anything like this piece (classical Music) before the other day when I posted the first version so I'm figuring it out as I go. I'll post what I have and listen to the feedback and then go figure out how to implement the changes suggested by my fellow musicians.

Feter said the same thing about the ending in a private note he sent me, so when I can, I'll go back into it and learn how do make a softer ending for it. I already have some things in mind, now I just have to get busy trying to build them.

Thanks again for the kind words and suggestions my friend, they are very much appreciated.

Be well and stay cool.

fantastic! a fan of all your works, and this one has inspired me...

sloparts said 236 days ago
I went and listened to Giants
and was amazed at you're virtuosity in all the areas that count when it comes to music. That said, any kind words you have for anything I do is taken as a compliment of the highest order my friend.

I was trying my hand at something I'd never done before on this piece because I just bought the Symphony Orchestra JamPack this week and wanted to play in someone else's sandbox for a while. I' glad you found it and liked it, it means a lot to me on several levels.

Thanks so much for taking time to listen and send along some kind words Allen.

Be well my friend and stay cool.

thanks!
on another note, as an accomplished guitarists, how bout some nylon, or even some smooth neck postition tele playing in the back on this one? talk about layers!

sloparts said 235 days ago
IIf you'd like to try it
by all means go for it Allen. Sounds like a good idea, but I'm not the one to do it. I can think of a few here that might be able to do something like that, but my hands don't work anymore for that kind of playing. They're to old and tired to be able to go where this would need to go.

So if you want to try it, download it and send me your tracks and I'll mix them, in place of what ever part needs to be moved to make room for them to fit.

Thanks for the idea and for volunteering. (you did volunteer didn't you)

Very nice
This is an impressive piece. The instrumentation is effective, and the arrangement works very well, I think. There is a sense of majesty at work here in places. Parts remind me of Michael Nyman (who I'm a fan of). Have to concur on the ending - a bit abrupt, but this is a remarkable piece. Very nicely done. Peace.

sloparts said 235 days ago
Thanks David
That's some very nice praise there my friend and I thank you for it. All the more since this is my first ever attempt at classical music and it's good to hear kind words about your work, especially when you're new to it.

I've heard that about the ending a number of times so far. I guess they'll be another pass to work over this one again. But this is how we learn David, by listening to our peers and learning from their expertise.

I thank you again for adding to that expertise here and for the kind words you bestowed on this piece. They are heartily appreciated my friend.

Be well and stay cool.

i havent heard the experiment. but this is sounding good to me. everything seems to fit together nicely. like the fast string part near the end. or maybe it was a synth.

sloparts said 235 days ago
Thanks Chance
Actually this is a newer version of the experiment. Basically the same except for a little tweaking and a few additions that weren't in the first version.

Glad you enjoyed this piece my friend and sent a long a few kind words to that effect. Always nice to see you doing a review of one of my songs Chance and thanks again for the visit.

Be well my friend

for an experiment (or otherwise) ya done good, hehe! This is an extremely nice track. This kind of composition is something I'd like to be able to do, but I think I'll need a few (quite a few) more piano lessons first. I noticed the ending was a little abrupt, so I imagine there's more to come? Looking forward to that as well! Again, an outstanding composition!

sloparts said 234 days ago
Thanks Mike
Well now mike, in the interest of full disclosure, I didn't actually play any of this myself. I recently bought Apple's Symphony Orchestra JamPack and was "Experimenting" around with it just to try it out and see what I could do with it.

What you hear are the results of that Experiment, which is why I named it as I did. I hope you not disappointed or disillusioned by the above statement.

I will say this in my defense, I have never done anything in classical music before, which might explain the abrupt ending, but never the less I do think it came out fairly well. It also tells me I'm going to have to continue working on it until I have a finished piece of music. I am looking forward to that venture with some zeal, as I really did enjoy making this one.

Thanks for stopping in for a listen Mike and for you very kind words of encouragement. They are much appreciated my friend.

Be well and stay cool Mike

This is certainly different from anything I've heard from you. It's wonderful. Beautifully layered and well orchestrated. Your talent never ceases to amaze me.

sloparts said 233 days ago
Thanks Joseph
It's not only different for you, it's different for me too. First time I've ever tried to do any classical music, and it was oh so much fun to do.

I'm going to try to expand on this piece and turn it into something longer and hopefully even better than it is now. But for now, I'm not gonna get in a rush. I want it to be something that is really special when I get done with it.

Thanks for stopping and listening to it my friend and for your very kind words.

Be well Joseph and stay cool man

well done for a first try!Just shows what a good ear you have.Looking forward to more.

sloparts said 233 days ago
Well Thank you Mark
You have to consider that there just might be a certain amount of luck involved here too, since I can't hardly hear anymore. At least not very well anyway, so I never know for sure if the mix is going to be pleasing to others. If it wasn't for my hearing aid I wouldn't have a chance of making a decent mix at all.

So thanks for the kind words and encouragement my friend it is surely appreciated. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed my little foray into the classical world.

Be well Mark and stay cool.

You have been HEALED!!!!! Finally saw the light! I cannot believe it! LOL
Ed this is great! Beautiful and so out of character for you and the music of yours that I have come to love in the past. I am not complaining mind you, only taking notes! :) Seriously, you are one person that I would enjoy listening to even if you were just whistling! Always impressed! Great job Ed!

sloparts said 233 days ago
Hi Gail, nice to see you here
It's a Miracle. Oh wait, thats a different script isn't it. Right church, wrong pew. LOL.

Gail you are way too kind to this old man, and ya better quit it or I'm gonna start blushing for sure.

Since you never got to hear the first version of this or read the information on the piece, you couldn't know that all I did on this one was choose and arrange the loops from the new Symphony Orchestra JamPack I bought last week. That's the reason I named it "Experiment in C Maj."( it is in fact actually C-min), because I was just trying out the new sounds in the Symphony Orchestra JamPack and wanted to see what I could do with them. This is the result of my fiddling (no pun intended) around in Garage Band, and I didn't actually play anything on this piece except the mouse and computer keyboard. Please forgive me for not identifying that fact in the intro on this version, a matter I will attend to as soon as I finish here. The original stated that rather clearly and because of that I didn't bother to on this one.

All that said, I have always loved classical music, but could (or would) never find the time to study it. So this is my first attempt or rather version 2 of my first attempt at dong anything even remotely like this kind of music.

I am very pleased that you like what I've done so far, but I feel there's going to be more that needs to be added to this to make a complete piece out of what looks like a promising beginning.

Thanks again for you wonderfully kind words and encouragement Gail and for taking time to come and have a listen, it is much appreciated.

Be well my little Country Western flower, (Yellow Rose of Texas) and stay cool.

Something...
...I've never heard from you before...didn't know you played piano or this style...

...quite beautiful...thanks, Ed.

sloparts said 233 days ago
Sorry about that Bob
In the original I stated that this was all loops, which it it. I have since fixed the intro to reflect that fact.

I only wish I could play piano like that, and in my wildest dreams I can. But I do love classical music and have listen to it many time over the years. When I bought the new Symphony Orchestra JamPack, I thought I'd try my hand at it just to see what I could do. This is the results of my experimenting with that JamPack in Garage Band.

Ok moment of truth over. I am glad you got to hear it, and that you liked the way it came out Bob. Thanks for the kind words which I may not actually deserve because I did do anything except arrange it, but I'll thank you for them anyway.

Be well my friend and stay cool.

I'm glad you found it, and even happier that you enjoyed it. I've never done anything like it before but I've always liked classical music so I thought I'd try my hand at it to see what I came up with.

Thanks again for the kind words my friend they are appreciated.

Inspiring Ed!
I've been thinking about doing something like this for some time (mainly as a result of listening to Alimar's amazing work), but have been too slack to sit down and do the hard yards. The result of your work here has given me a bit of a proverbial kick. I really admire the way you've taken yourself out of your comfort zone here - a really good result.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

sloparts said 231 days ago
Hey there Neil
Thanks for the visit and for listening, glad you enjoyed this little piece.

Don't hold back on doing what you talked about my friend, it's a lot of fun navigating through the loops to try and find just the right part to put into the mix. I encourage you to just dive in and have some fun with it Neil, and you may surprise yourself with what you come up with.

Anyway, have a lot of fun with it, and thanks again for your very kind words. You are of course right about how MacJams seems to promote experimentation in the folks who post here and that is a very good thing indeed.
Ok, time for me to click my Ruby shoes together and leave Oz for a while. See ya.

Be cool and stay well my friend.

I enjoyed these types of loops and you have added the very nicely and of course you good creativity.

Not a bad transition to Country artist to Classical Maestro !

Your putting in some very impressive loops, you put them in very well indeed!

I think you have developed into another genre!

That is the great thing about macjams!

No tellin what somebody is going to come up with! Amazing!

sloparts said 231 days ago
Thanks for the listen Bill
This was tremendous fun for me because I've always had a love for classical music, among the many other styles of music I favor. Buying that JamPack gave me an opportunity to do something I never thought I'd get the chance to do and that is to arrange and play something classical. Obviously we have the take the word "playing" with a grain of salt, as I didn't actually play anything except the computer keyboard and mouse, but that isn't what's important here. What is important to me is that I got to create something I would never have done in any other way. And it's something I am proud of because I feel it's pretty good for a first time effort.

This place, MacJams, fosters that kind of experimenting into things you would not ordinarily do, which makes this a special place indeed.

Thanks again for you kind words Bill, they are aprreciated.

Be well and stay cool my fingerpicking friend.

This is a kick!
Great job Ed. I'm curious: is it hard to work with these loopy things? I mean, a drum loop is one thing, but to get these loops working together like this, it seems would take a lot of effort. Shows me you have a great ear. Very nice.

Joe

sloparts said 230 days ago
Thanks Joe
Glad you enjoyed this piece Joe.

I didn't find it to be too hard. The hardest part was figuring out what to start with, and then to go find the loops that fit in with that musical feeling you're getting from the loop you used as a starting point.

It's really a matter of listening to the different loops and when you find one you think will work, trying it out with what you have already built. It takes some time, and you'll change your mind on some of them and change things around as you go, or as you find a loop that seems to fit better, but I wouldn't say it was hard.

One thing that you may have to do sometimes if you are using software instruments is to go in and maybe edit some of the notes in a particular loop you like part of, but needs a little adjusting on some of the notes to get them right for the rest of the piece.

What would be hard for me would be trying to play all the instruments myself and having it sound like music. This stuff is way above my head when it comes to that.

The loops make it possible to experiment around with Orchestral sounds to see what works and what doesn't. And it's a lot of fun to do once you get over the fear of doing something wrong. There is no wrong in music, there's just your way and my way, that's all.

So if you get the urge, go for it just because it's so much fun to play with sounds.

Thanks again for the listen and the kind words Joe.

Be well and stay cool man.
