Description usually it takes a person a few brief seconds to wonder should I tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Or should one water down the circumstance. Here I ramble on for several minutes about it.
Lyrics Little White Lie

I won't deny or keep it inside
I could tell you little white lies
either way it doesn't seem quite right

not holding secrets or criticize
maybe I should wait till the time is right
sometimes words cut like a knife

ch:
I will never try I will never lie to you
I will never try I will never lie to you
I will never lie I'll give you the sky

little white lie half truth disguised
you should know before rumors fly
twisted words behind your back

ch:
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you

maybe half truth maybe half lie
rumor mill never questions why
close your ears to little white lies

ch:
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you
I can't decide should I tell a lie to you

Epic
Full of guitar gorgeousness as usual, but i especially love the verse guitar (reminds me of the banshees for some reason). Your vocals are getting better and better (are you having sneaky lessons), and the whole track has an epic, 80's kinda feel.

Love it.

Would I lie to you???

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
You Lie? Never
Thanks Steve. I only sing when I record a song so they should get a little better. LOL. Now a days I try to remember the lyrics instead of reading them off a page. I think that helps.

Fantastic new tune of yours. That's the truth!

lengold said 238 days ago
You really
do have your own signature sound Vic, excellent production. i would know this was you virtually instantly - that's quite an achievement.
Love the lyrics and your vocals are sounding superb. Great song and the playing of it is really exceptional.
Definitely one of your best.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
Thanks Len
This one has been in the works for several weeks. Experimented around a bit before I finally said enough is enough. The harder I try not to sound like myself, the more I do end up sounding like myself.

said 238 days ago
Gorgeous!
Great music as always from you. The guitar work is really gorgeous. Also, a very great vocal delivery. Killer track, I'm really out of words! KUDOS.

Take Care
- Yeman A. Al-Rawi

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
Thanks Yeman
The guitars (I think I used 3 different ones) go through a lot of tones and amounts of distortion gain. It helps to keep it interesting regarding tone and variety. I'm glad you liked it Yeman!

said 238 days ago
Really nice...
Good songwriting. Ubiquitous theme.

Guitar work is over-the-top....Like you used a red-hot razorblade for a pick or something...Ha ha...

Another great track for the Hall of Blame!

Be well friend!

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
Hey Mike
One of those subject matters that no one talks about much. I always wondered who thought up the line "little white lie". Probably the same person who came up with "lying through there teeth".

No sharp impliments where used, although I have a strong attack and haven't broken a git string in many years.

Feter said 238 days ago
Little White Lie
Ah man ...this sounds like another fire track
of yours ..the guitar work just fabulous as ever !!
loved the drums pattern here specialy the snare .
this reminds me of a psycho band I cant get to my mind
right now but certainly it gives me the feel of a
classic rock sound ..your vocal sound perfect for this
..just a gem ..thnx alot for sharin !!!!

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
Thanks Feter
a guitar orchestra kind of sums it up.

the drums I play on the keyboard via midi. the snare sound has a little overdrive and I think it gives it a great attack.

Thanks for the listen!

rsorensen said 238 days ago
very good
i like these lyrics a lot. it's a subject i write a lot about too. really cool sound. a classic vic holman. love those pre-chorus guitars, then that huge chorus! great job.

Vic Holman said 238 days ago
lyrics
as a comment on your last song I mentioned it takes me a week to even think of lyrics. After a week I give up, hit record & start ad-libbing over the chorus. when a line comes up then the rest comes pretty quick. so far, anyway.

Peter Bauckham said 238 days ago
This is
yet another one of your best Vic! I do like your sound - By 20 seconds in it couldn't be anyone else - I have to agree with Len - Simply excellent!

Peter

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Thanks Peter
It's been awhile since I did a song with quite a few turn arounds. I took some extra time with this one playing around with some different ideas. I ended taken some things out, it was getting to long.

michael2 said 238 days ago
super
lush, this is really outstanding Vic. fierce guitars (not in the campy way, but like white hot coals). really like this one.

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Thanks Michael
I've been working on this one in bits and pieces over the last 3 weeks when time permitted. There were other things i was doing in this that I ended up scraping. Probably would of taken another 3 weeks to pull off what I had in mind.

said 238 days ago
Nice!
This seems a bit heavier than past posts- which I really like! Have you been tweaking the tone on your guitar? I really like the sound here. Nice track as usual Vic!

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Hey Mike
I've been dropping the high pass filter down a bit on the guitars and some different external amp modeling.

Oh, I can play extremely heavy. There's a lot of styles and songs I do and have to get around to recording

Ejh said 238 days ago
On this one, Vic...
That lead guitar break is outstanding... Really something...

And I agree with Steve...your lead vocals are getting stronger and more adventuresome as you go along...

Ed

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Thanks Ed
the lead guitar break. I thought it would be cool to have a riff leading up to it. and I changed the key for the solo itself. Parts of it are not easy and almost has a countrified sound to it...if that makes sense.

aclarke said 238 days ago
It all works
Really strong song here, Vic. Vocal is spot on.... a great mix always stellar guitars... especially liked when the power chords came in and, of course... the lead. Very cool lyrics, too.

No question that this was going to get downloaded!

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Thanks Adam
I took a little more time then I usually do on this one. all the guitar parts came together pretty easily. But the lead, I must of ran through that 20 times. There was one wrong note i kept hitting. (brain to finger, hello!)

magnatone said 238 days ago
Little White Lie
Cool lyrics - you're guitar work is wonderful, really really wonderful. And then there's your vocals - you've just got the whole package. I cracked up at your response to Dee - about how the harder you try not to sound like yourself, the more you do. I can totally relate to that! You're terrific - so please keep sounding like yourself!

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Thanks Karen
yup, the truth is I'm stuck with me. It's not all that bad though, I've yet to get in a argument with myself over creating a song..... so far. Even though one part keeps asking myself "why can't you sing like Roy Orbison?"

lavalamp said 238 days ago
Ramble on
Classic Vic. The structure of this song is tremendous. Love how the guitar "sings" with you on the chorus.

Very well-done, my friend. A keeper.

LL

Vic Holman said 237 days ago
Hey Dave, thanks!
I thought it would be cool to go back and do a song with some different parts to it. Actually I sang to the guitar lines in the chorus. It's hard to notice with my vocals getting in the way but there are 4 guitars, 2 playing a 3rd down. ah, there I go rambling again

jiguma said 238 days ago
Another one!
Vic,

You keep churning out great music - especially like the lead break and the guitars in general really. The "aaaaaaah" bit works really well to take it even further out of the ordinary - file stopped unceremoniously for me at 66%. Will catch the rest of it later.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Neil
I notice I've been having the quicktime player on songs playing as well.

I had even more aah's before these ahhs and other places but I scrubbed them because I wasn't getting exactly what I wanted. I hate that when that happens.
Guitar wise everything fell into place a lot easier.

bud said 238 days ago
100 foot tall guitars
how do you play such big guitars? You must have really long arms. Great track Vic - I can ID with the lyrics (unfortunately). Really love that little diving guitar part at about 3:06 into the chorus. Magic.

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Kevin
100 foot tall guitar. can you imagine the price of guitar strings for that?

that guitar dive you mention , I plucked a harmonic on the G string, 4 fret (B). It's a old Van Halen/Satriani trick.

You know, we are long overdo for a collab project together.

bud said 235 days ago
Collab - great idea
I've been a little stuck since the CBGB thing - the wind has left my sails.

MarkHolbrook said 238 days ago
Vic
As usual simply top notch... Great subject too!

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Mark
I spread out working on this for 3 weeks. So, it's nice to have it out of the way so i can move onto something else. I thought the topic was something that rarely gets brought about, honestly

Pete_NB said 238 days ago
Vid does it again.
Nobody blends the guitars so well into the mix. They are larger than life yet don't overpower the rest.

And as always, cool melodies and unexpected twists.

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Pete
blending the guitars gets pretty easy after a while. I decided to give it the variety so I wouldn't get bored... and to go a little crazy with it of course.

Thanks again Pete.

thoddi said 238 days ago
nailed it
The way you play the melody in the refrain on your guitar unison with your singing is a tasty choice.

Another brilliant tune from you.

And I must comment once again that I really enjoy the art pieces you put up to your songs. This one made me smile and sticks pretty good with the title of the song.

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Thor
I think I pretty well threw in a lot of guitar tricks in this one..... except any tapping solos. (don't know how that got past me).

I'm still working in Macromedia Freehand on the song illustrations.

egobandit said 237 days ago
This is great
thats not a lie...Haha like the drums in this and the way the vocals go with the lead Excellent!

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
Thanks Tim
honestly, i play the midi drums on the keyboard. I think it gives a more live fell of not following a set pattern. if I'm lying... I'll never tell!

DWL said 237 days ago
Great lyrics
great performance and great production.

Nuff said.

Cheers

nuff and stuff. I tried to keep it all real and honest. er, sort of.

craft said 236 days ago

Love the guitar.. Catchy melodies and tight power... Well done

Vic Holman said 236 days ago
thank ya sir!
Usually I'll get the music of a song together pretty fast. I gave myself the luxury of taking some time on this one.

I really appreciate the listen!

five_extra_arms said 236 days ago
Fess Up
Cool song Vic. I like the lyric - half truth disguised.

My favorite chorus vocal treatment is this one for sure!I can't decide should I tell a lie to you!! That reversed echo sound at the beginning of it that comes in with your crazy guitar is insane.

Nice heavy guitars sounds and super expressive midi drums, although I don't believe it.

Vic Holman said 235 days ago
thanks Bob
actually the whole thing is reversed. Then I played it back in a mirror.

I won't sugar coat you now. I did the chorus guitar lines first and it helped me to come up with a chorus vocal pretty quick. The rest of the lyrics came real fast after I knew I had something to lie about.......or do I? Only my hairdresser knows for sure.

five_extra_arms said 235 days ago
Played It Back In A Mirror
Now that was funny!

What you're saying is that you rock BOTH ways. Forward and, uh, not forward....

By the way, I've always wondered why you keep that hairdresser on payroll. You wear a hat every day of your life.

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
-0
I think I tend to rock sideways. and I'm not even in a boat. but I'll keep that under my hat.

dajama said 235 days ago
Great song
I love the riff through the verse, and the opening bars are great. Terrific vocal as ever. You have such a distinctive voice, and you sing the lyrics so forcefully and expressively. Great guitar work throughout. Your playing has soul, my friend, and it helps that you're a great guitarist! Great theme. I once asked a group of students how many of them never lie. Everyone put their hand up. I said "Really?' and everyone put their hand back down! It was an interesting class...Nicely done, my friend. Class track. Peace.

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
Thanks Dave
the opening had a couple tracks of power chords that really weren't doing it for me until I reversed them. That made a big difference and got the brain in gear.

I thought the subject matter might be one of those things that no one likes to talk about or admit to. At first I was a bit hesitant, but I thought oh well, might as well be real about it.

Alannah said 235 days ago
AH Vic Holman .....
.... I could hear all the little "nuances" here ... both vocal and mixing ..... and I can hear how hard you worked on this ..... maybe dropped a small bead of sweat or two here and there ... very professional job ... sometimes the listeneer needs to be in the right "space" when listening to hear the little things .. that make it just SO ! good job Vic ! I heard them ! you truly give 100% (unlike my own personal 10%) when it comes to working these things out .....

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
Hey Alannah
It took a little while to get this together, but not a really big sweat. Usually from time to time there are little things under the hood, and headphones are the best to pick 'em up. This one is a pretty good example.

now about that 10% of yours. I think you forgot to put a extra 1 in front of it.

BossHook said 235 days ago
What a
production, no I really mean it, that's the truth!

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
thanks Bossman
Listened to your new one as well earlier today. very well done! I can't fid about that.

said 234 days ago
Just totally...
enjoyed this song... Vic, I am so impressed at everything you are doing in this song. Like others have said... your singing is really good here... your everything else (instruments) can't get much better... or can it? Now that possibility is beginning to scare me!

cheers...
D

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
Thanks Jack
I've been toying around with this for a while. I was about to spend another week on some things but decided to wrap it up before it went over the top.

apb said 234 days ago
You big fibber you .. ;o)

s'good un Vic ..true to yourself.. another MJer that you can recognise easily within the first minute .. talk about oozing style...

I particularily liked the way you use effectual guitar 'noise' .. and perhaps more so ... the way the guitars backed up the vocal melody or was it vice-versa .. sweet backing vox too. Altogether a fine well thought out composition, mixed and produced very well of course too (as I'd expect).

Keep 'em coming ...

/Alan

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
Thanks Alan
I don't throw out my guitar noises all to much. this tune was a good opportunity to let some fly. I added the vocals last so all the guitar riffs had it pretty well mapped out for me. So the vocal tracks went down pretty quick.

Well I'm accustomed to sounding like me, at least the shoes fit.

Bob Rodgers said 234 days ago
Fantastic
song Vic, this is so good, love the guitars they sound superb, great chorus and vocals!
A really great track with a superb production!
Brilliant!!

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
Thanks Bob
I worked on this one in bits and pieces over a 3 week period when time allowed. Sometimes I think I enjoy the creating process most and trying out some ideas. You never know where it will end up. Sure didn't sound like this on a lone acoustic when I first started.

stratcat said 234 days ago
Excellent
Love the guitar tones, great mix. Like the melody, and the hook. Awesome. Oh yea and like the artwork looks like Robbie the Robot with a zipper in his mouth.

Vic Holman said 234 days ago
thanks stratcat
I was just listening to your new tune...... man, you floored me. awesome playing!

TEXASFEEL said 233 days ago
Cool tune
Very original Vic Holman trademark. Refreshing to listen to... lots going on with some fine energy. Really dig the guitar. Really dig the transitions into the vocals.

Vic Holman said 232 days ago

definately a lot of bits and pieces. Spent more time then usual and tis is the mess I make with idle hands. I dug you re-mix on you new post.

Willywagga said 232 days ago

really nice levels on this, great voice, great guitars, really nice production. very radio friendly.

Vic Holman said 232 days ago
the last time....
... that I can can remember any radio tune about lies was Fleetwood Macs "Tell me Lies." At first I thought maybe it's a tabboo subject, but thought what the heck, it's life

Macaudion said 232 days ago
What a great tune
Your liner notes made me bust a laff out loud. I've never met a person who didn't lie. And if they said they didn't - busted! Good to hear it being exposed so honestly here, Vic!

I like the way you expressed it all w/ that g'tar solo - kinda makes one feel that way, sometimes... That was very "right-on"! I also like the way you and your g'tar sing together to harmonize in that "hear what the f#$@K I'm sayin kinda way

Such a great track - Thanks for keepn' 'em honest! And thanks for the traveler, too! Macca

Vic Holman said 232 days ago
Hey Macca
would I lie to you? nah.
I laid down the music without any idea of vocals. I started ad libbing some ideas came up with the title and the lyrics came about fast. Luckily the guitars gave me a melody bounce off of. whew

Ibstrat said 232 days ago
Superior
guitar work here, not to mention great vocals. What are you using to get that guitar sound?

Vic Holman said 232 days ago
Thanks Mark
well the clean guitars where my epiphone DOT Deluxe, a copy of a Gibson 335. run though a Digitech mutli effect pedal board, with a twin amp modeling that you can set up the parameters for. the distorted tones were a Gibson SG & Ibanez SA electrics. Each track was run through the pedal board with different modeled amp settings to widen the fields so to speak.

I really like your guitar tones, great fuzz sound, is it using a real amp or a plug in? Cool rhythms on drums and bass, what drums do you use? Enjoyed this track a lot, cheers

Vic Holman said 227 days ago
the truth
i use a Digitech GNX2 multi effect pedalboard going in. I used several of the different modeled amps with modeled distortion and overdrive stomp boxes. I can go straight in in stereo that way.

The drums are midi that I play on the keyboard. I separate those out to 3 tracks.
