Description I wrote this song in November 2002.

The Mekon was the leader of the Treens .He was the resident baddy in the Dan Dare comic strip which appeared in the Eagle - a boy's comic back in the fifties.I'm not sure whether he was known outside the UK as I think this was an all a British creation .The colour of his skin was green ,he had a huge head and he came from Venus. He was and still is my favourite alien. I have recently managed to contact him on myspace and despite all the stories you hear he is quite a friendly chap. [Chap = Guy}

I hope you enjoy this novelty tune,

Johnny Jape.

Lyrics The Mekon don't like it by woofer3

In nineteen fifty when it all began -
The Mekon was created and so was Dan,
Dan was the goody and the Mekon was bad -
And everybody knew he made the green man mad.

The Mekon's ambition is to conquer mankind,
Maybe he's crazy or maybe he's blind .
Dan is there to stun him at every turn ,
And all of us watch the Mekon burn, burn, burn,

Chorus
The Mekon don't like it-The Mekon don't like it,
We know that he's bad and we've gotten him mad,
But the Mekon don't like it.

Time and again the pair would battle it out,
But even when bad it were never in doubt ,
That colonel Dan Dare was gonna save the day,
And send the evil alien on his way .-

Dan was victorious and grinning a grin ,
As another adventure's just about to begin .
He's saved the earth from a terrible fate ,
And this time the Mekon's gonna have to wait .

Chorus.
But the Mekon don't like it ,
The Mekon don't like it ,
We know that he's bad and we've gotten him mad.
But the Mekon don't like it .

Brilliant!!!
Hi John sweetie pie :)
I luuuve Reggae !!! More Reggae please. This is sweet.

Wow !! What can't you play/ its really catchy and great for wiggling the hips too. Anyhow at least this cheered me up.
I uploaded a nice ambient tune for my Son Matthew's birthday called
For Matthew he is 28 today. He could not even be bothered listening to it.
Oh well. Your song cheered me up.
Your voice sounded great. I am not familar with that comic strip one.

The Beano and the Dandy and someothers cannot recall at the moment. I used to read/ as a child
I myself read loads of Fairy stories mostly. Hoping for a prince to come and pick me up on his white charger and carry me off It never happened. Rapunzel was also one of my favourites. and of course
Cinderella ha ha
Films like Calamity Jane/ and Dan Dare/ Flash Gordon lol Loved cowboys and Indian films too.

its nice to hear what you liked in your childood its so facinating
to hear about you. I love your stories I really do. Thanks for sharing your great music I really appreciate it.

Peace Dee xxx

Hi Dee -
another two comics were the Beezer and the Topper but the Eagle always seemed a bit more upmarket, the Girl was it's sister magazine, do you remember that ?

I hope Matthew had a good birthday and I'm sure he appreciated your music for the occasion.

Anyway Dee thank you for commenting on this song which like most of my stuff is the product of an over active imagination I think. - An only child you see, we're all the same.

Peace to you too my dear,

John.

Dai Marley strikes again!
Great song John - full of fun and played/recorded superbly. Great guitar.
Cheers
Len

woofer3 said 248 days ago
Ja mahn,-
thank you Len. This was recorded in 2006. I tried re-mixing today it, as best I can. I think it's a bit clearer now. I wrote it not long after I came out of hospital in 2002 at a time when I was so weak that writing was all I could seem to do. Never thought much about it until a good friend of mine said how much he liked it.

Your comments are always welcome and taken notice of.

Thank you ,

John.

WOW ..powerfull Reggae sound here ..great great work
my friend .o yes I was waitin for to hear the guitar
and it came on the right time ..all so cool man YOU
ROCK !!!!!

woofer3 said 248 days ago
Thanks Feter,
it's funny I never thought of myself as much of a reggae type person but I've written quite a lot of it when I take stock and have quite a few albums of it as well. I try generally not to be in any one area of music at all to be honest.

I used my trusty Cry Baby for the guitar solo which is very simple in content, -let's face it - it would have to be.

Best wishes from Wales,

John.

Yeah!
Jeezus - I remember the Mekon. [gives away age!] You're correct - a great alien. Dan Dare was way ahead of its time.

This is a very cool tune. Your vocal reminds me somewhat of Derby's finest - Kevin Coyne.

Nice work.

woofer3 said 247 days ago
yes I am giving my age away-
do you remember the friendly Treen who eventually joined Dan Dare's side in the fight against old big head ? his name was Sondar if I remember correctly.

And I remember Kevin Coyne as well, I think I still have a free promotional single of his from when Virgin first started.

Thanks for listening,

John.

yeah man
you got your finger on the trigger. Great tune and vibe are you playing a guitar too?

woofer3 said 247 days ago
I'm glad you like the tune -
it was written seven years ago but this recording is about two years old. I am no virtuoso on guitar I'm afraid though most of my songs are written on the instrument. I only feel at home on the piano.

Thanks for listening and commenting.

Weird subject but
great fun.

You get a really good sound.

Impressive.

Cheers

Dick

woofer3 said 246 days ago
Hi Dick -
well believe it or not I've written much more weird songs that this. Years ago I was talking to someone about Dan Dare, and we were joking about it all when the Mekon got mentioned and the phrase The Mekon don't like it - just came into the conversation, .........and I thought,...what a great title for a song and wrote the rest around it.

Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment,

best wishes,

John.

DWL said 246 days ago
Weird
I guess you haven't heard Henry the Talking Penis or Elephant Man from my old band then? :-)

Cheers

Dick

woofer3 said 246 days ago
no I haven't but if it's
on your page I shall check it out today. Good title, - I have one called Bob face Betty about a balleria that looked like Bob Holness. It's an old demo but I may just post it next, it's over ten years old and recorded on a tape machine with a drum machine and an Atari 1040. I shall go and check your song out now.

ttfn,

John

DWL said 246 days ago
Bob Holness?
That I need to check out.

You weren't a fan of Half Man Half Biscuit were you?

Elephant Man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwn0HVTvsCQ

Cheers

Dick

woofer3 said 246 days ago
Ah you got me there-
But I'm always interested in the quirky side of music and the age of it makes no difference to me - Half Man Half Biscuit - ?? will check out your link. I Have always liked Frank Zappa. My Bob Holness song actually got played on the radio in the US.. I didn't think it was very good as it was made after a gig at a Welsh hippy sort of party. The sound is awful but it is a bit of a curio. I think I'll post it later.

DWL said 246 days ago
If
you really haven't heard Half Man Half Biscuit then I think you should take a listen.

Great song titles

Fuck Me it's Fred Titmuss, All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit

Very British.

Cheers

Dick

woofer3 said 246 days ago
well you learn something
everyday, that's a pretty wild vid of elephant man, typical live sound as well. Thank you Dick, I have been enlightened.
It frightens me when I think about all the stuff I dont know about.

Speak to you soon feller, and thanks again,

Best wishes ,

John

A Reggae Tune
About a cat from Venus, Who would of thunk it? Awsome. Great recording and if you wait there's the trademark guitar. Whole lot of fun. Thanks, Russ

woofer3 said 245 days ago
yes he was fromVenus -
-in fact from Mekonia which of course is in the Northern hemisphere of Venus, - I am impressed with your knowledge of this alien's history.

Thank you Russ.

mekon
Hi John,
Great groove you got going here and Dan wins again. I like the backing vocals and bouncy bass but what really steals it for me is the horse clip clopping percussion that gets most noticable towards the end. It kind of fits with the era (Steptoe and Son with Harold on the cart reading the Eagle down cobblestone streets).
Enjoyed this a lot!
Steve

woofer3 said 244 days ago
well Steve -
that's one picture I hadn't thought of but it's a good one and a very British one I think.

I'm glad you liked it and thanks for listening.

Top Reggae
Top subject,I remember reading old copies of the Eagle that were my Dads' which an auntie had saved.I was only about8 or 9 but I thought they were great.

This is a great song and reggae is just cool, spot on
