Description When the Stiff Victims played their infamous gig, backing singer and band dogsbody Rebsie managed to wangle a support slot for Acid Bogroll, a punk band fronted by her teenage sister Julia Jumbuck.

The Stiff Victims were famously evicted from the gig after two songs but Acid Bogroll have the distinction of having been thrown out before they'd even played anything, when it became known that Julia was wanted for arson and attempting to fix a large safety-pin through the nose of the Statue of Liberty.

Despite this promising start, Julia retired from showbiz in 1983 and decided to spend the rest of her life down a sewer, where she now runs a Home of Rest for Rats.

Huge thanks to the wonderful Mr Langford who, when he heard the guitar track I'd done for this, took pity on me and recorded a better one. Cheers Dick.

When I played this to my husband he said "if that was anybody else I'd turn it off" so I thought great, it's ready to post.
Hardware His: Fender Strat, Boss GT8, Ibanez Bass
Hers: Rode NT1-A mic, Fender Musicmaster bass, Essex accent which I've been trying to suppress for 20 years and have finally found a use for

Hehehe

.. very good .. kinda 'Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK" meets 'Pete & the Test Tube babies' .. but with female vocals... well cool and excellent cover art too. Lots of fun. David Essex accent?? ;o)

Rebsie said 247 days ago

Yeah, where I grew up everybody talked like David Essex. Thanks Alan. :)

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
Perfect!
This does sound like 'Anarchy in the UK' - but I'll take your voice over Mr Lydon's any day - you do those 'punkette from Essex' tones really well Rebsie.

Great stuff you two!

Peter

Rebsie said 248 days ago

Anarchy in the UK? Yeah well, we could do with some of that, overthrow that fatuous buffoon Gordy and his bunch of state-control nannies.

Talking of anarchy, I managed to get one of my comments deleted off the Guardian's comment pages this week. Censored by the Guardian ... I take that as a badge of honour. :)

caroline said 250 days ago
i can picture you
headbanging to this - fanks for the memory xoxoxo

Rebsie said 250 days ago

I'm sure you've already added it to the Pink & Fluffy Party Favourites playlist on your iPod, Caroline.

Thanks for braving an ear-bashing. :)

Ha ha!
What a freakin HOOT!

Bri'ish Punk, eh? I LOVE this side of you Rebsie!

Thanks so much Dick, for the excellent guitar work.

A real kick in the arse!

Be well!

Rebsie said 248 days ago

I'm enjoying expressing this side of myself. :)

I always have been a rock chick trapped in a folk singer's body. And Dick gave me just the backing track I needed to make the transition from one to the other for two minutes.

rsorensen said 250 days ago

awesome job. love the accent on the vocals. well done! very fun.

Not from any quality issues mind you.. just so happy seeing you step outside of your traditional zone :D I heard hints of the gutter there and I f**k-ing loved it!

..and once more Dick shows his virtuosity at guitar slinging!

Great job you lot! Now get out and dont ever come back!! :P !

The description
Like most of the other grunge is hilarious! A great way to start the song!

This
is probably even less my kind of thing than some of your acapella folk songs but it's still great for what it is. It does the job very nicely and made me smile and laugh at key points. Both you and Dick deliver the goods.

Rock and Rebsie
Did your husband know about this episode before he married you? Or did you tell him "here's what happened to, eh, a friend of mine....".

Cool song. I can't understand the accent but I'm too busy head-banging to listen to the words anyway.

Rebsie said 247 days ago

Yes my husband did know about the sailors and my punk past before he married me. And fortuntely he also knew I was a domestic dunderhead who puts the laundry on first thing in the morning and then forgets about it till tea time.

Thanks Vic!

renecalvo said 249 days ago

I like the art as well. Very much in keeping with the times.

Sailors and punks - now there's a mix I
never would've considered. Right then - excellent post.

Thoughts from the Bull...
knowing your typical fair, this was a delightful flight from all destinations! I stumbled in by pure chance tonight when i saw your name. glad i came in (but honestly, now i'm nervous to leave)! ;)

Rebsie said 249 days ago
Heheh
It must have been a bit of a shock to come across this song out of context. :) I ought to do more like this though, it's very liberating.

Great to see you around here Mark, it's been a while! Just mind the cowpile on the way out and you'll be fine.

Nick_Flash said 249 days ago
cool
It has that Sex Pistols feel for sure. Cool song!

home of rest for rats
rebsie ... so punk r u .... tell the hubby to crank it up!!

Rebsie said 247 days ago

Thanks Jack. In fairness to my husband he genuinely can't stand punk. He's too young to remember it and the spirit of 1977 didn't get ingrained in his consciousness as it did in mine.

gregd said 248 days ago
Glad you found a home . . .
for your accent. It's lovely right where it stands. Cool writing, and it's too bad you never got that safety pin to stick. I think it'd look real nice up there on Lady Liberty.

Love it
... sounds like a lost record I'd find in the back section of Peter Dunn's Vinyl Museum - the dark section where nobody but the dark artsies and the punkers hang out. Mmmm... miss that place. Smelt like beer back there, and smoke, crazy ideas, leather jackets and vinyl records.

Excellent tune!

jiguma said 248 days ago
Showing your true colours Rebsie?
About time we heard the famous Rebsie punk bass style.

Not to mention the Essex accent.

:)

Rebsie said 247 days ago

Thanks Neil. I was hoping you'd spot the bass. :)

There's two basses on here, a deep and competently played one by Dick and a rough and growly one by me. I always used to play bass with my fingers and never with a plectrum, but I was trying to emulate my favourite bassist J-J Burnel and had to play it with a chunky plectrum close to the bridge to get anywhere near the right sound.

That old Fender Musicmaster is the same one I played in my punk band around 1984/85. It's a wonderful old bass and is aging better than I am. :)

Rebsie said 247 days ago

There's something very liberating about singing out of tune and posting it on MacJams.

Yeah I'd love to borrow your bondage trousers. Maybe for my next album photoshoot. :)

Cheers Steve, we always appreciate your comments.
