very true brit punk sound my friend ..jee ..
the guitar so load and flamed I love it ..!!
very much a party song ..this should be takin
from top of the pop chart ..You Rock !!

Peter Bauckham said 251 days ago
Nothing like
turning up the distortion for a change...! I gave up trying shouty vocals though - they were never going to work. I did use to listen to a lot of UK Punk and it's been great going through some of those old records for inspiration.

Yeeeeeeeeeeee-HAH!
What a ride Peter! I can just visualize the smoke coming off your guitar strings...Ha ha...

Great new tuneage my friend. I enjoyed this VERY much!

Brit Punk Eh...
Sounds awesome Peter - great to hear something new from you.
Fantastic lyrics too.
(I'd never heard of CBGB's had you?)
Cheers

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
Well...
I was into alot of the US punk artists in their early days - Patti Smith, The Ramones, Blonde - CBGB's was pretty well known - if you were into that sort of music. I also spent alot of time listening to UK punk (1977) when I was at school (as well as people like Al Stewart, Simon & Garfunkel) - so this is really my sort of thing - and great fun to do.

All the best

Wow Peter,

this really sounds great. That dirty guitar of yours and your excellent vocals are a great match.

I can't believe you were the first to use "Superficial" as a keyword! Cool!

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
This has been
a real trip down memory road for me - I've had The Ramones and The Adverts in the car - turned up loud! It's also the first time I've ever picked up a bass guitar and punk is the perfect platform to learn how to play.

Isn't it funny how it doesn't seem old to any of us?

I'm really enjoying the playlist from this event.

Nice one!
I like the mix Peter!

Tearin' it up from across the pond for sure.

Loved the guitar tone.

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
Well as it happens
there are another couple of 'punky' numbers which I will post in due course... In the mean time you can sneak a listen on my mac website - there's a link on my profile page. These recordings are a bit different from my usual 'pipe and slippers' folky stuff...! I'm really enjoying being LOUD!

Rebsie said 250 days ago
Great stuff Peter
Like you I've been enjoying doing my "research" by listening to The Stranglers on automatic repeat every night. I'd forgotten what it felt like to get an energy rush from listening to music. Them was good times!

My brother and I used to cut out pictures of Margaret Thatcher from the newspaper and throw darts at her.

Great noisy guitars, and great little chord at the end, like a musical two-finger salute.

"Stick it up your arse you boring old fart" ... love it! They don't make lyrics like that any more.

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
Whatcha Rebsie!
You can 'arf put on that Essex accent! I've been having a great time with this CBGB's challenge - listening to some of me old punky stuff and shouting (although I doesn't sound like it) at the mic. And of course it's time to have fun with lyrics - My son (12) was rather shocked at the words - but my parents (in their mid 70s) weren't - how bizarre is that? So much for youth rebellion!

Good to see you here

Peter

chemystery said 250 days ago
Gritty guitar
Love that distorted guitar. Great tune! Edgy as hell.

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
There's nothing
like gritty guitars - the edgier the better! Thanks for dropping by for a blast!

Peter

Vic Holman said 250 days ago
cool one Peter
cool aggressive guitars with a great driving beat. the lyrics were really great and summed up the attitude, some pretty funny lines in there as well.

Peter Bauckham said 250 days ago
I love
a bit of attitude and that was the great thing about the punk scene- loads of attitude. I try and include a little humour in my songs - I wouldn't want people to think I take things too seriously. I still chuckle every time I see your poster Mr Vicious!

Peter

splinter said 250 days ago
You Brits are just too good at this
you got the dole and the Queen and arses and biscuits and all that other cool shit to complain about. You did a great job of making all that bitching sound like a rocking good time - excellent vocals and killer guitars. Watch your gear if we ever share a bill.

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
You're right...
...there's lots to moan about in the UK -It's no wonder there were so many cool punk bands here! The sad thing is, 30 years on there's still the same things to moan about - so much for progress!

Peter

Wow
Excellent tune, Unemployment is very Punk!

Great Punk Lyrics, Ahh pleasantly surprised...

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
Thanks!
Despite my usual folky, protest stuff - I'm a bit of an old punk really - so this challenge was far to good to let pass - It's given me to chance to rehash a load of old themes (unemployment, politicians, discrimination etc.) with a new musical backdrop - great fun.

Thanks for listening

Peter

Nick_Flash said 250 days ago
Yeah
Sounds great Peter. Very much like an old punk tune. I look forward to the rest of the EP.

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
It's funny
doing this challenge listening to some old punk stuff that, when it came out, seemed really outrageous, but now is so mainstream. I love the punk sound of '77 when it all sounded so fresh. It was great trying to re-create that sort of sound.

All the best
Peter

But also a catchy and charming tune. Good stuff.

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
Johnny Rotten
used to use the term 'Boring Old Fart' - so I couldn't resist trying to fit it in here. I suspect Johnny Rotten is a BOF himself these days...

I wish I wish I wish that all the shit that Thatcher was responsible for could be deleted...

Sorry for the cliched polital rant

This was a great demo

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
There's another
song I've done for this CBGB's thingy that mentions 'Maggie'. We're still tying to erase all the post war housing estates - let alone the legacy of Thatcherism... The sad thing is that they all seem to be a bad as each other. Glad you enjoyed the tune.

Delete Me!
I love the band name! It's perfect...!
I have now been Deleted and I like it!

Peter Bauckham said 249 days ago
Now you've
been deleted, life will never be the same again! Actually, the name dates back to the early '80s - I always thought it would be a great name for a punk band but all I had was a 12-string acoustic guitar - hardly punk! So it's taken me 28 years to use the name as intended.

Glad you liked it

Al Stewart has gone punk!!! I've enjoyed this departure (thinking I might stick with it for a while). Most fun I've had for ages - It's a middle-age rampage!

"Stick it up your . . ."
I hear Buzzcocks in this, and I like it.

If only the kids we were could see the people we've become, eh.

This doesn't need screaming vocals. I like the spiky personality of these "tender" words.

Peter Bauckham said 248 days ago
Now you mention it...
...I can hear The Buzzcocks too! I did try shouting, but gave up! I any case I figured that not all punk bands had shouty singers... Just been checking out your VU/Blondie track - Excellent!

I've never been so happy to see the "musical note" symbol beside someone's name! It's been way too long - great to hear some new music from you. This is great - lovely guitar sound, and nice vocal. Some terrific lines in there, humorous and scathing. Love it. First time using a bass - you'd never know. Excellent. I hope we won't have to wait so long for the next one! Nicely done. Peace.

Peter Bauckham said 248 days ago
David
thank you - I always get a buzz when you have something new too. You're right - it's been way too long! I wanted to try something a bit different and the idea of CBGB's got me all fired up. I've been meaning to get a bass for ages - wasn't sure if I'd get on with it (as the frets are so far apart) but so far so good.

Thanks again

You did hear right! I nicked it from an X-Ray Spex track! hehhehe
I'm afraid the accent is mine - I did try and change it but it kept ending up like this!

I always liked the poppier side of punk. Your B-52s track really takes me back to 1979!

Thanks for listening

Cleared out my ears too!
Great vocals and really good guitars Peter - sounds like you might have done this before ;) Drums work just right. Could do with a bit more bass.

Sounds a little "Sex Pistols meet Buddy Holly"!

I missed the whole punk thing, but this sounds pretty good to me.

Cheers from Oz,
Neil

Peter Bauckham said 247 days ago
Hi Neil
Thanks - I like 'Sex Psitols meets Buddy Holly' - I kept coming up with 'Peggy Sue' when I was writing this! I was a bit tentative with the bass - first time I'd played a bass guitar - also I mixed and mastered this though a £20 mini system and didn't want to blow the delicate speakers up! I'm hoping to get a new amp for my 'studio' very soon (just blew the budget on a bass guitar) - Thanks again Neil - I'll be check your newbie out very soon...

All the best to you in 'Oz'

Peter

this could be a lost Only Ones track. You captured this sound perfectly, I love this.

ledebutant said 246 days ago
Have to...
I have to agree with Michael. This sounds completely authentic and this could have popped up on any mixtape I had back in those days and I wouldn't have blinked. I also think you could have had a hit with this, Peter.

This is one of my faves I've heard, so far, and I REALLY love the song art.

Peter Bauckham said 246 days ago
Thanks Lisa
I'm glad this has come out so authentic sounding - I did listen to a fair bit of punk and new wave stuff many years ago - and must admit to having a 'refresher' session in the car before recording this. CBGB's has been great fun.

Thanks for listening - I very much enjoyed your tunes too!

Rough and ready!
Lots of attitude in those vocals, my man! And that guitar screams. The drum properly pounds, so yes, there you have your punk tune.

No wait. The bass! Where's the bass! I don't hear a bass!

Ok, I do hear it, but he seems to be playing from the loo. Turn the ugly guy in the back up a bit?

Peter Bauckham said 246 days ago
Yeah
the bass player's on the shy side - maybe he'll get louder as his confidence grows! Thanks for listening.
