Description Written in September 2003 in memory of little Gertrude Escott who almost reached the age of six. It was written after a very vivid dream I had about her. She died over forty years before I was born but as I have got older I have thought about her more and more, and recently my gaughter and I tracked down her grave and now visit it. The picture is of her and my grandmother, -little Gertie would have been my aunt had she survived diptheria.

This recording was made when I wrote the song so there are a few little things about it that I would probably do differently now, though the basic song is as it will always stand, because up to now it's the most personal song I'm sure I've ever written.

John
Lyrics The Temple of Diana by woofer3

[written Sept.2003]

Lost in a dream I was trying to find you,
Wandering alone when I heard you call.
Where can you be I've been looking and searching,
Why did you leave and where did you go.

Walking through a garden that was filled with forgetmenots,
The grass was so green and the sky so blue,
There in the sunlight was the palace of marble,
I stepped inside and I instantly knew.

chorus. I was standing in the entrance of the temple of Diana,
Waiting for an answer from the goddess of all,
Reaching out and searching, looking for a reason,
Thinking out loud.

They tell me that Diana is the mother of all of us,
I knew if I could find her then that's where you'd be.
Maybe with the greywolf to love you and protect you,
This is your home for now and ever to be.

Just as I thought you were standing right beside her,
You ran uo to meet me and you took my hand,
I've waited so long it seems like a lifetime.
And now I believe that this is where I belong.

Repeat chorus.

An intriguing
story John and a lovely song to go with it. The chorus is very, very catchy. You are a superb song writer. I am going to see 10cc tonight, there songs remind me of you.
Cheers
Len

Hello Len
how did the 10cc concert go ? they're one of my favourite groups and have been for years.

I'm glad you like the song, it sort of suites my melancholy mood at the moment.

Thanks for your comments,

John

The temple of of Diana
Hi John.
I also sense sadness in your voice here too. Awwee its a sad story but an interesting one also and you sang it just the way you felt.

I also love this song too. I love to look at black and white photos And see the clothes they all wore in them days as well. it was good . I liked it. Your lyrics are very good. I can see why its your most personal song too. Your Grandmother looks beautiful and the Little girl your aunt awwwe she looks soo sweet to.They died at very early young ages
in them days as they did not have the same medical care we do now.

Have you seen me as a Child on my black white photo I put up later. On my Song David. I am the one sat on thae Back of my brothers Moterbike outside our house with my Youngest Sister Maxine sitting on the front seat. Awwe the bike is just out of sight shame. You are really talented and I hope the Welsh Dragon is looking after you good also sweetie.
Take care John

Peace love and great respect my freind

Dee, -
my Northern rose, thank you for your words. It is a sad song, - I think one of the few I've written as a lot of the time I'm having a go at something I don't like or think is wrong and there's such a choice isn't there!

Gertie died on the 10th April 1904 -my daughter Helen has paid for a little memorial stone for her as when we found the grave it was unmarked. The stone will be placed there shortly. However my grandmother and grandfather lived on into the sixties. They say he never fully recovered from her loss and never allowed himself to get too close to children after that until I came along forty years later, but he did spoil me I remember and I spent a lot of time with him.

I saw your photo with you and your sister on your brothers bike and think it's lovely, I agree with what you say about
the old black and white snaps.

Thank you Dee for your kind words,I hope you are well,

Best wishes,

John.

WendyWoo-
hit recorder of Brian's Teeth, I'm beginning to wonder these days which Brian ! well let's face it they're both very attractive men. Though I think a song about my teeth would have been better.

Thank you for your comments, I've had a bad week or so with losses, not forgetting Paul -[Droop]- still can't believe that.

Hope you're head is better this morning, Dave said you went home early, I've told you about that Jack Daniel's haven't I ? - seriously I hope you've recovered today.

Best wishes,

John

Something about the photo
and the story. A wave of sadness hits me.

A fine tribute and almost too much to take.

Good work John.

Cheers

Dick

Thank you Dick -
It's a loss beyond my imagination, no parent should have to go through this.

I saw this photo for the first time about ten years ago when my uncle gave it to me, I have only two pictures of this little girl, and almost no other information other than she had a little friend called Jenny Fardoe, - not much is it really.

Your comments are much appreciated,

John

The Third Line of Woofer
One of the great things I like so much about your song writing is the way you develop the melody of your verses and choruses on the third line.
I don't know if you realize you do this, I'm sure you do, but the melody is always evolving which keeps it interesting harmonically and melodically.

Another great song.

I do try to take care
over writing songs and I don't give up until I think I've got it right.

Thank you Tim, for your kind words, I hope you and Cathy are both ok,

John
