Description Basically a song for songs sake. The other day I was watching The Darjeeling Limited movie (it's a pretty cool movie by the way) and it got me to thinking how, in movies, people go to extremes to find there own existence in the world. This made me think of another movie along the same line, hence the title to this song. Only to find that the answer was within them all the time.

I'm really not sure what category this really falls under, so I'm guessing
Lyrics On The Razor's Edge

I can look back and laugh at it all
sometimes life cuts you down
and the world will leave you behind
might as well enjoy the ride

and the world wants to see, can I survive

ch:
I'm standing at the razors edge
trying to cut the bad memories
I'm standing on a razors edge
sometimes it just cuts me

i wonder what tomorrow will bring
sometimes it stays the same
there are times you stand so weary
how do you rise above it all

and the world wants to see, can I survive

ch:
I'm standing at the razors edge
trying to cut the bad memories
I'm standing on a razors edge
sometimes it just cuts me

messages in bottles wash ashore
filled with hopes and dreams
i would drain out those bad memories
send the bottles out to sea

and the world wants to see, can I survive

ch:
I'm standing at the razors edge
trying to cut the bad memories
I'm standing on a razors edge
sometimes it just cuts me

Wow, you are fast to catch the new songs. I couldn't think of what music genre to put it under, but if there was a vic rocks that sure would make it easier.LOL

Ejh said 258 days ago
Nice singing and nice mix...
I like the simpler, bolder guitar lines in your songs these days, and I like the way the acoustic and the electric(s) and the bass all wind 'round one another and flesh out different bis of the sonic spectrum...

You're in strong voice on this one, too...

Ed

Vic Holman said 257 days ago
Thanks Ed
True, I'm breaking down that wall of sound a bit. I originally had 2 acoustics carrying the verse section. When I added the keyboard track, I decided to let that come through a bit more and redid the guitars to be more sparse. And let things interact a bit more.

Nick_Flash said 258 days ago
Cool
Nice song Vic! The delay effect on the guitar sounds awesome. It has a simple yet powerful feel about it.

I agree - strong voice.

Razors edge
Really nice song Vic, lovely lyrics, great vocals, music and production.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 257 days ago
Thanks Len
Originally I was going to have a keyboard part in here, I was fooling around and decided to keep it. So I went back and redid the guitar parts for it to stand out a bit more. Sure took on a whole new tone.

DWL said 257 days ago
Cracking chorus
Lovely change between the verse and chorus. Beautifully played as usual.

I liked the acoustic work and how you interleaved it with the big electric sounds.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 257 days ago
Thanks Dick
I thought the chorus would really pick it some. That was a bugger to do on the bass and the guitar line that follows it. After I got it for the first chorus, I thought yikes two more choruses yet, with luck I did get through those in one pass. whew.

Nicely done Vicar!
Absolutely your best singing to date. I love the way your vox is ever-so-slightly effected as well.

Really engaging arrangement. Classic solo. Sparkling clean production. Bravo my friend!

Be well!

Vic Holman said 257 days ago
Hey Mike
On the vocals all I really did was just sing it on two tracks and a third for the chorus. They tend to sink up so well and thats what came about.

Your song Solace really came out great bro!

Vic!
You did a fine job recording your vox...but I'm referring to the quality of your singing on this one. It's truly top-notch.

Great!
This is great piece Mr. Vic. Always happy to hear a new tune from you. The mixing is really clear and clever and your vocals here sounds great! Top Notch post.. Thanks for sharing!

adding to my collection
Guitars and vocals sound great as usual. I don't know, the bass sounds a lot better (improved), than on some other songs.

Solo was superb.

Great work Vic,

Dave

Vic Holman said 256 days ago
thanks Dave
i bought the bass not to long ago. It has active pickups and cool dual EQ knobs that really make it stand out nicely.

And Dave, cool new tune with Bob.

Vic Holman said 256 days ago

I listened to your new song last night, that was nicely done!

michael2 said 257 days ago
well
i gotta say, i like the song a lot more than Darjeeling Limited, but that's another story. this sounds amazing. love all of the gtr harmonies, and the kind of prog feel is great. excellent.

Vic Holman said 256 days ago
Thanks Michael
I'm glad you like it. The song that is. I always like to throw in harmonized guitar lines it brings about such........ a, harmony.

Razor's Edge
Vic Holman lives on the razor's edge.

I agree with Ed's comment about your 'simpler, bolder guitar' these days. The guitars and bass (shhh!) are a happily married monogamous heterosexual threesome.

Nice vocals too. They are just dating the lyrics with no plans for the future.

What?

Vic Holman said 256 days ago
Hey Bob
Most of time I use a electric razor. It doesn't shave as close as the triple blade razor but it's quicker. and if that guitar and bass get to "friendly" then I might have to shave them as well.

Hot towel anyone?

dajama said 256 days ago
Excellent
Your songs always sound so amazing; you set the bar so high as far as the sound and the mix. Then that voice kicks in! Fantastic stuff. This is a a great song, with very thought-provoking lyrics. Your singing is excellent, and the guitars sound amnazing as always. You have such a distinctive and cool sound. Very nicely done. Peace.

David

The Darjeeling Limited is a cool movie, isn't it?

Vic Holman said 255 days ago
Thanks David
Thanks for the nice word.really appreciated. and it was cool to get Ed out in your new tune.

Yeah Wes Anderson movies are the type either you love em or hate them. I like the weirdness of them

sloparts said 256 days ago
Very cool message,
delivered extremely well Vic. Love the feel of this song, it's reminiscent of late 60's early 70's acid rock songs, but more bluesy too.

Thanks for the song Vic, it's a keeper.

Ed

Vic Holman said 255 days ago
Thanks Ed
I really appreciate the listen. True there are a few parts that remind me of early 70's Badfinger as well.

I always look forward to your next song Vic

Vic Holman said 255 days ago

some more zen lyrics of the mind really.

Hey, it was cool to see the group photo of you and the guys in NY

Scott Carmichael said 255 days ago
Classic Vic H
enough said... but if I was going to say more it would be it would be about your voice... I thought rockers were supposed to sing worse as we got older... I love the performance and signature sound of your voice... and I dug that break with the octivided guitar lick... really a wonderful sounding production...

have I ever mentioned perfect guitars before...

Vic Holman said 254 days ago
Thanks Scott
what'd probably even weirder is the only time I do sing is when I'm recording the song. so hopefully they do improve. still can't hit any high notes yet.

Thanks for the listen!

said 253 days ago
See?
I TOLD you this was your best vox yet! Ha ha...

jiguma said 255 days ago
Couldn't be anyone else!
Nice sounds as usual Vic. You have such a distinctive sound, even when you go "softly softly". The guitars sound great and as usual the rhythm section is well thought out and tight - great post.

Neil

Vic Holman said 254 days ago
Thanks Neil
I'll have to surrender on trying to sound like anyone else.

Originally there where more guitar lines during the verse. I was playing around with a synth and like it so much I decided to redo those part and minimize them so the keyboard part stuck out a bit more. Did soften it quite a bit I thought as well.

Very catchy tune, sir! The mix is absolutely fantastic!!

think there is anyone who sounds remotely like you, which is a huge compliment. This is a truly great song.

Vic Holman said 252 days ago

I would have to say the same about you and your tunes, Very identifiable, articulate. Your new one is a fantastic tribute to your wife.

thoddi said 252 days ago
well
This started out sounding a little different from what I've heard from you before Vic. This reflective mood both in the lyrics but also very much supported by your music sound ultra good to me.

Your voice sounds very cool in this mix, really the whole production seems more direct and in my face. I'm digging this a lot. Maybe you have recorded this like you always do, but I find something have changed but can't really point out what it is...

The little guitar snippets with extreme tremolo fx was in my opinion a very tasty choice to put in. Just the right amount and at the right places.

Anyhow - very good. One of the songs that got to me the most of what I've been listening to here lately. Something to be proud over:)

Sounding very pro!

Vic Holman said 252 days ago
Thanks Thor
I've had the verse chords for some time but finally got around to actually using them. When I added the keyboard track I liked it enough to slim down some of the other guitar tracks that I had in the verse. Making it a little sparse in places so the keyboard was a bit more pronounced.

I appreciate the listen!
