Description When my sister-in-law was diagnosed with 5th stage lung cancer, she took to serious meditation. As a musician and composer, I had never tried my hand at ambient music - and decided to write some meditation pieces for her. Sadly, she passed on a couple of months ago - but I was honored to be able to provide some comfort through music. I have just discovered this website and have heard some really interesting music already. Ambient music is a challenge because you have to resist the temptation for over-development and work with spaces. I have decided to post these meditations in hopes that I will receive some advice and feedback from the many talented composers and musicians in this community. Many Thanks!

Neat-O.
First impression: the panned, contrapuntal melodies work well to embellish the central arpeggio.

Of your music that I've heard, I think this piece feels the most natural. In other words, the transitions are smooth and the levels are nicely balanced. Also, I'm a sucker for minimalism.

This is a wonderful meditative, ambient track. Nice work.

Interesting that you should say that...
because it was an adlib first take. I made up the melody as I went along - which provided for a couple of interesting cadences.

Slightly dark
but of course is understandable. Musically speaking it is really well done.

My dark is much darker - but I get what you mean!

Haunting
Simple and elegant. Altho it does seem almost too bare bones as it progresses, like a demo or sketch. I felt that after the wave sounds entered, a variation could have helped, something to indicate change, evolution, depth. And a synth wash under the arpeggio, slowly changing thru time, might help create more 3-dimensionality, like much of the New Age Ambient music employs. Some of your other tracks can get a little clunky due to the MIDI sounds you choose, but your sound choices in this track all complement the starry field spacial concept you established. I enjoyed the augmented 4th, and then the augmented 5th you use to create suspension, and the haunting quality you achieve.

Thanks again -
I was really resisting development - as it is my natural tendancy to overdevelop. Also, the music was intended as meditation music - so I was trying to keep it somewhat minimal. I could not resist adding the augments for tension - which is also probably a no-no for ambient music. Interesting that you preferred this to the others - and your advice is very informative.
