Description When my sister-in-law was diagnosed with 5th stage lung cancer, she took to serious meditation. As a musician and composer, I had never tried my hand at ambient music - and decided to write some meditation pieces for her. Sadly, she passed on a couple of months ago - but I was honored to be able to provide some comfort through music. I have just discovered this website and have heard some really interesting music already. Ambient music is a challenge because you have to resist the temptation for over-development and work with spaces. I have decided to post these meditations in hopes that I will receive some advice and feedback from the many talented composers and musicians in this community. Many Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your sister in law. I've lost some people who I was very close with to cancer, too.

I know what you mean about the challenges of ambient music. You've done a fine job of keeping it wide and minimal...

Welcome to Macjams.

minimal?
That is the challenge - for pure meditation music, it is still too developed probably - but thanks!

No...
...that's not what I meant. I think you've done really well keeping it within the genre. Besides which, I get the feeling that you created what you heard...that's really the best we can do, imho.

Exploration
I get the feeling that the organ-style synth is something of a main character, if I can talk about this song as a drama, and it is exploring a landscape through this piece.

As a meditation, I think it could work well if there were some explanation, guide, or set-up. As a yoga teacher, I think musical meditations generally require some elaboration to get the students on the same page. However, since you wrote this for your sister, there's obviously less of a need to give your own family background!

I like the tentative movement and development in this piece, it works well to "pull" me through it. Like a meditation, it's a discovery of sorts.

Your comments are very thoughtful
I really appreciate them - and also the fact that you're a yoga teacher (which type?). Of the four meditations, I actually thought this was the least effective - because it has more drama in it. The storm is cheesy - but it was meant to be a allegory for death - with the reinforced theme coming back!

Thank you
It was mostly ad-libbed and I'm happy it works on some level!
