Description My entry in to the LIOLI 7 Challenge.
Can't miss the loop in this one! I start with an introduction that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the song. My high school band director complained about how stupid that was, and how common it was in Late 70's popular music. For some reason in the context of this song it just seemed right.... Hope the Doctor doesn't destroy this before you get to listen in.

Listen for my first time use of NI's keyboard Xpress, some played through simulated guitar amps.
Lyrics Life is just a game
You only need a name
Seriously speaking
We should play...

Robots With Guitars
...surfer-dude robots playing Ventures tunes on guitars built out of wind-up toy parts assembled into Devo-esque instruments. But they love to jam, boy - these robots are cookin' on a California beach party! (A California beach party in the Twilight Zone!)

Great entry - I was boppin' and groovin' with the churnin' beat. Excellent ride - welcome to the party!

Love your description. Ventures... Beach Boys... Devo... Twilight Zone, all very cool comparisons! I'll be listening in over the next few days, LIOLI is always a blast.

I knew it should come more cool tunes... Fantastic mix my friend.
Too me this is a real d-load I kinda like this trippy heavy stuff.
Way too cool yes let's play.

peacepiano said 246 days ago

Glad to provide something a little heavier for a change :)

Thanks Friend. Take Care.

It fools you when you first start to listen
Playtime for the Robots, isn't that nice of you to let them do this. They must really like you, because when they do start up, you can tell they're having a He** of a good time doing it.

Excellent track Bill. Bravo for making that terrible loop into a song you might actually like listening to. Great job my friend, Thanks

Ed

Thanks for the kudos. I figure if you can't have fun with the loop, you might really lose it.

bud said 247 days ago
I agree with Rik -
surfer dude robots doing the devolution shuffle. I don't know what NI's keyboard Express is - but I like what I hear. The intro was a hoot.

peacepiano said 246 days ago
Bud
NI express is a sampling of some of Native Instruments simulations of famous keyboards, like the Hammond Organ and Some of the classic Synths.

spitlogic said 247 days ago
high pace
Im not sure if I've heard this much aggression from you. I like the energy. This is a rock'em sock'em jam.

peacepiano said 246 days ago
Spitlogic
Thanks for listening. I was trying for a different sound both because of the loop and because it can be a lot of fun!

paul f. page said 247 days ago
And here I thought...
...I'd have a peaceful song just before hopping into bed!!! Uh, nope. This is sure high energy...unrelenting and in-your-face. Well, I'll stay up for a bit. Powerful stuff, Bill.
Peace (I think),
Paul

Not sure if I would recommend this for relaxing ;) Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you were able to get some sleep later.

said 247 days ago
yep, surf boards
& hot rods, agreeing with bud's remark. It could almost have gone back in the 50's but the grunge on the loop :)

Glad you like the tune. A little grunge is good for the soul.

boogie woogie!
sounds like chuck berry found himself a little marshall combo and a really cool key player. And the slapback delay is a very cool touch. Way to handle that loop in it's original form!

peacepiano said 245 days ago
WillyB
Hard to imagine what Chuck Berry would have done if a rhythm guitarist playing for him played this loop. But the result is very old school rock :)

Diviner said 246 days ago
Brilliant use of sample
Really enjoyed esp since its a very fun track. Cannot beat Rik's description fits this track like a glove.

Can't keep up
Beat.......Too........Fast......Gotta.....Move.......But......Can't........Help........

I believe that's what I heard the evil Dr. saying on the dance floor. It's hard to tell, as I turned this up as loud as it would go.

Great entry!

peacepiano said 245 days ago

DR LIOLI dancing to death! That would be quite a sight. Glad you enjoyed the tune!

Glad to hear I struck a chord with you. I can't be laid back all the time.

Doug Somers said 245 days ago
Not expecting this one
Pretty cool mix of sounds with adapted styles that all work harmoniously to put out a lot of energetic punch.

We should play indeed!

Thanks for sharing this delightful tune,
Doug

peacepiano said 245 days ago

The loop seemed to demand a different approach. Good to hear that you think all the parts work with each other.

like the intro, screw your band director. this is so cool. i love what you did with the riff, kind of an electronic woolie bully. awesome job, sorry it took me so long to make it here.

peacepiano said 244 days ago
Michael
I am glad you noticed the intro. I actually did many takes on that and had to add the strings to cover up the sound of my hard drive. No need to apologize about the time, I am still trying to listen to all the LIOLI entries and the new stuff from everyone else. There is a lot of new music this week.

This is a cool song. I really enjoyed it and it made me laugh thinking about bopping heads while playing those guitars...Anyway, great job. I liked the intro, classic!

Glad hear you had fun with my little song. I think I can see the heads bopping too.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. There has been a lot of interesting music on the sight lately, so I am especially appreciative of everyone who took the time to listen to this odd little tune :)

composerclark said 233 days ago
Fantastic
Even though the intro has nothing to do with the rest of the song, I love it! It has a mock-gregorian chant feel, and dem's some profound lyrics, boy! (As we say here on the island where I live...)

Then it gets deliciously dirty and grungy... Kind of an 80's feel (for me)... This is fantastic fun!

peacepiano said 232 days ago

If we can't have profound fun with our music, where can we?

Glad you enjoyed the tune.

New Wave Surf Rock
This is such a cool mish-mash of genres and sounds, Bill. It sounds like Agent Orange meets New Order. I don't know how I missed this one on the LIOLI entries. At any rate, I'm glad I caught it now.

Nice work. The doctor can't touch this.

I was a little late posting my LIOLI entry and there was a tidal wave of new music the following week, so I am actually surprised many people found this.

"Mish-Mash" of genres, I like that. I always have trouble getting my stuff to fit the genres exactly, and this time I didn't even worry.

dajama said 231 days ago
Excellent
I love the contrast between the intro and the rockin' out body of the song. The loop is clearly there, but you use it in a very imaginative way. This has party song written all over it - great groove and lovely guitar and keys. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

Hey!
How this one get by me?

Ha ha! CRUNCHY!

Like some kind of electro-surf-punk music! (Surely there's an FM station somewhere that specializes in that sort of thing, right? Ha ha...)

Big fun this! Nice job Bill.

Be well friend!

Busy Place. Glad you did find this one, Took a little risk and tried a different sound.

Norman Goodman said 212 days ago
Very cool
Excellent lines, almost a neo-classical surf song.
Found myself thinking of the B-52`s as well, only for their ability to take familiar musical passage ( ie the rhythm guitar ) and make it sound hip and new.....cool descending lines accomplished this as well as the ostinatos.

peacepiano said 212 days ago
Norman
Neo classical eh? I like that. B 52's comparison hits well too. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
