Keywords LIOLI7 (7)the doctor is going down (1)fuzz-pop (4)distortion is bliss (1)that loop was awful (1)
Description so i took that horrible CC Deville sounding guitar riff and processed it to death (chopped it into a million pieces, rearranged and added effects). I then laid out 3 tracks of it, built a drum track and then started playing bass until i had something i thought I might be able to make a song around.

the loop is throughout the song, but is most noticeable in the intro, quiet sections and outro. i think it sounds like a couple of synth parts. there is a rhythmic insect sound, some feedback-ey sort of noise and something that sounds vaguely like a flute. i usually do a song and then add the icing, but in this case the icing came first and i had to wrap a song around it.

this is sort of a shoegaze kind of song, fuzz-pop if you will. i was obsessed with bands like my bloody valentine, ride, slowdive and swervedriver, and still am basically.

i am first and this is damn cool michael.... wonderful wall of sound and your vox ...too damn cool ... hats off!!

michael2 said 249 days ago
hey thanks
glad you like. it just kind of came out when i got the loop twisted around. glad you like.

said 246 days ago
Rather awesome
Beautiful. C.C. Deville? No. We should all listen to a lot more Devo.

rsorensen said 249 days ago
great job
love the main guitar hook and the vocals. great bg vox too. i started one of these too but after listening to that horrible riff over and over I gave up trashed it. you were smart to chop it up!

rsorensen said 249 days ago
oh yeah
also, what's the story with the drums? they're great!

michael2 said 249 days ago
thanks man
i used drums on demand and ran them through camel crusher. just kind of pieced them together. listening back i wish i would have made them a hair louder. thanks for checking it out.

Moviz said 249 days ago
I agree
with Jack, this is really 'cool' excellent overall 'Big' sound and the harmonies are fab. Great guitar lead and the mix sounds really pro, cheers M

michael2 said 249 days ago
thanks Moviz
glad you like. this was so fun, I love these LIOLI things. makes me think i need to start using torn apart loops in every song. i spent more time mixing on this one than i usually do (probably twice as much actually), so it sounds a bit better. i started experimenting with compression too, since i never used it before. thanks a bunch for checking it out.

dajama said 249 days ago
Great sound
I'm with davisamerica - "wall of sound" indeed. Nice sound, excellent changes, and brilliant vocal - it just fills the phones. This is class. Nicely done. Peace.

michael2 said 249 days ago
thanks Dajama
i was definitely going for that early 90's wall of sound. so glad you dug it, i sure had a good time.

JupiterMusik said 249 days ago
veyr professional
This is a really good song!

michael2 said 249 days ago
thanks man
so glad you dug it. i love fuzz and harmonies and keith moon style drums so they all ended up in this. thanks for listening.

SmokeyVW said 249 days ago
great job
love the vocals here.

and the guitars, and the drums, what's not to like?

i dunno where that loop went, but no loss!

thanks!

michael2 said 249 days ago
the
loop is all of the feedback stuff and the other wierd sounds in the quieter sections. i was nowhere near as creative as you, that's for sure. glad you liked.

Karmatoburn said 249 days ago
icing
you are the mcgyver of sonics. creating something this wonderful from that one bit of guitar dna. fabulous

michael2 said 249 days ago
thanks
inspiration comes from anywhere right? so glad you liked, i think these LIOLLI things are great fun.

bud said 249 days ago
Alright - a man after my own heart
if I gotta use it I'm gonna mash to hell first - thank you. A great song resulted from the icing first approach - that's what I love about these challenges. We share the same affection for the shoe gazers - but you really manage to pull it off. The drums are pretty cool towards the end and I hear you getting a lot of play out of your Line6. Cool.

gregd said 249 days ago
Holy Buckets
This sounds like it came off a professional album! Nice mixing, even if it did take twice as long as usual.

How do you like that Ibanez artcore hollowbody? I've been eyeballing them for some time, wondered how they sound, but never actually pikced one up.

This really sounds spectacular.

elmopedo said 249 days ago
unskinny bop part deux?
you know you've got some deep seeded CC Deville influences in there somewhere. we all deny it, but they're in there.

but i jest (just liked your description of the loop).

this is a really polished and well thought out creation. i'm glad that you buried the loop in there somewhere somehow, but honestly, this song is great (aside from trying to find the loop in there somewhere). the break at 2:30ish sold it for me.

WillyB said 249 days ago
um..the doc is toast
Wow Michael, your experience is shining through right here. You could have posted this as a regular tune and still gotten rave reviews. GREAT work all the way around!

announcer said 249 days ago
Nice mix here.
good mix but I do agree with you about the drums maybe needing to be a couple of dB hotter in the mix. Good tune.

sloparts said 249 days ago
It seems you took the easy way out. LOL
Way cool track from something so evil and nasty. You made a killer song out of it, which of course is exactly what we needed to KILL the nefarious Dr. LIOLI

Great track Michael.

Totally sublime. Loved it and wish I'd thought of that wonderful riff.

shoegazer heaven...
I can never get enough slowdive, so this is great stuff to my ears :)

Way to make that ugly guitar loop behave....
Kudos!

WOW-
Outstanding track! I find these challenges interesting in how they inspire the artists. This track is unbelievably cool! I have more entries to listen to, but this is tops so far! Nice one Michael

said 249 days ago
good!
i like it, the voices are well done, good harmonies

Alannah said 249 days ago
You amaze me ....
... with how effortless you make it look ! Your tunes always come out top-notch and polished sounding - the backing vox reminded me a little of some of the mamas and papas tunes in their harmonies ...

chikoppi said 249 days ago
CC Deville must apologize!
"There is a rhythmic insect sound, some feedback-ey sort of noise and something that sounds vaguely like a flute."

With a description like that you know you have a hit on your hands! I can also hear shades of Smashing Pumpkins. Very catchy tune! Nice work on the percussion track. Lots of track work to capture those guitars and much character in the various tones. Great stuff!

stooey said 249 days ago
Cool sound
I like the sound of the vocals. Kind of hiding, but grabbing your attention.

my bloody lioli valentine
I think people deserve more shoegazing songs in their life... did I mention I was a My Bloody Valentine absolute fan? instant fav for me, russite totale. OK, and now I'm reading your song description and yes, you did mention MBV, and Ride as well! I'm downloading your song right away, thanks for the revival!

cc deville should be chopped up
cool fuzzy and warm to the touch guitars. the guitar melody riffs are great.
how you treated the loop came out great and produced some really neat twisted sounds. well done!

cjdaley said 248 days ago
loopless
what an incandescent riff. Plus it's good to see the closet shoegazers of this site coming out.

One of the greatest live moments I've had was MBV live in Boston in 91. they played THAT chord in the middle of You mademe realize for 20 minutes, and most of the audience was really looking sick and crouching in awe. It was like being under a UFO landing down.

Diviner said 248 days ago
Lovely
I can hear your influences shine through on this track. Nice track, I like it, it reminds me of some of the bands I liked at college like Inspiral Carpets,Soup Dragons etc. Nice one Michael.

said 248 days ago
Yeah boy!
This rocks. Whatever you did to that poor old CC Deville, it works for me!

Cool tuneage Michael!

Be well!

Kudos sir!

I have no idea what this LIOLI& is
and I havent heard the loop in the original form but you have created a great track here M2

Hats off to you sir

Brian D said 248 days ago
great fuzz, etc
great fuzz, great groove, great chords, great tune. this rocks.

MarkHolbrook said 247 days ago
Yup...
Echo all the above... I could have used the drums louder too! But they sound great.

I got a few drums on demand and like them better than stock drums. What is camel crusher though?

MarkHolbrook said 247 days ago
Ok gotta ask...
Been seeing this around... What is all this Lioli stuff?

Thanks -- clueless

said 247 days ago
Lioli
Loop It Or Lose It... you didn't just loop it: you melted it down into a liquid, sonic wave of insect-sound meltdown. This tune rocks by whatever yardstick you put to it - but damned if I don't hear Strawberry Alarm Clock in there.

And goofing on CC Deville... well, we just need MORE of that, sir.

Lennon714 said 246 days ago
I'm
starting to hate you. You've officially turned shit to gold. Honestly though, you put some quality stuff together. It's always a treat to hear what you've come up with. The vocals are by far my favorite.

MissChaos said 246 days ago
yeah
love the vocal harmonies. Great production!

renecalvo said 246 days ago
like it
The rich wall of sound and vocals reminds me of the byrds. I like the density of the piece. The break in the middle is sublime. I would love to hear one guitar lead soaring over it all, or maybe even dueling guitars.

Cori Ander said 246 days ago
cool hot freeflowing
Really cool hot freeflowing music = NICE ROCK N ROLL.

This is perfect driving-the-highway-music!

Love it!

This is exactly what came out of my mouth right after the first bar ! It's hard to recognize the loop, but what you created from it is really exciting. A real wall of sound. Hats off !
