What can I say:

cool
you made it sound cool, it ended up like a cross between the kinks and the stooges, with a big black drum machine. i wish it were longer. how did you do that?

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
the drum machine just needed to sound like gunfire.

thanks

bud said 249 days ago
This is crazy original -
amazing bit of madness Bill - truly inspired. I never would have thought of this.

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
i wish i could explain how i thought of it. i just kept fooling around with the loop and was beginning to lose hope. after a while, the idea surfaced of literally shooting Dr LIOLI. it was all downhill from there!

thanks

WillyB said 249 days ago
oh my gawd..
..that is hilarious!!! this is a blast so far. laughing out loud. now I have to explain it all to my co-workers. great job smoke!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
when i finally got the first rough mix done, i played it and immediately burst out laughing.

my wife thought i had finally lost my mind.

she was right.

thanks!!!

dajama said 249 days ago
Love it
Those drums are killer, like bullets ripping into the heart of the machine. You have a fertile imagination, my friend. Nicely done. Peace.

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
by the time i had gotten a decent whimpering sound out of the loop for the very end, i felt really bad for the poor thing.

thanks

egobandit1 said 249 days ago
A conversation piece
between the guitar and drums! loved it!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
the discussion ended up rather one-sided though!

thanks

Skean said 249 days ago
Smokey
You are amassing... Very fun listening and what a cool mixing... Cheers

thanks Skean

ROFLMFAO
Gunga Dinn!

ROFLMFAO

This is genius! You are very twisted man. But I mean that in a good way.

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
yes! that poor trumpet at the end of that spoof of Gunga Dinn they used to play on the radio years ago.

thanks

gregd said 249 days ago
Delightfully
sick and twisted. Nice job keeping the absurd theme of this whole LIOLI round. You got a sweet tone on those drums by the way--how'd you do that?
-g

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
i used a Foundation Drumset loop. i used the Cavern drumkit instrument. then i duplicated the track and separated the snare from the other instruments. for only the snare track i added Distortion, with Drive set rather low and Tone set rather bright.

the main idea was to make the snare sound like a gunshot.

thanks

datafunk said 249 days ago
riffle machine
love that riffle drum machine!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
i liked how i could get a decent machine gun out of the snare. there must be 3 or 4 unique samples being cycled though?

thanks

announcer said 249 days ago
OUTSTANDING!
I think I'll withdraw now!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
well, i'm glad you put up Sudden Thunder

thanks

sloparts said 249 days ago
That's it Smokey,
come out with guns blasting. I think you got him good. If you didn't kill him, he's got to be badly wounded.

Ed

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
that poor loop didn't stand a chance!

thank you

Mystified said 249 days ago
...Gunga Din
And that was quite the din!!

Love the humor in this one!! :)
What fun you've brought into the fray!

Kudos!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
Dr Lioli was just asking for it!

thanks

chikoppi said 249 days ago
Cricket Requiem
I'd love to see the animation that goes with this!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
how about something that transforms drum sticks into tommy guns and portrays a guitar to somewhat resemble Dr Lioli?

thanks

stooey said 249 days ago
Scary!
It sounds like the death march to the gallows! Very creative!

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
or a walk before a firing squad?

thanks!

Dj French Toast said 249 days ago
I
Love you pic man ! Sweet piece kinda industial like I was in a factory or something ...Nice very cool man

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
that snare drum is just plain nasty. and the loop is pathetic.

maybe this is symbolic of the struggle between man and machine? :-)

thanks

said 249 days ago
Simply stated
I think you can bury him now... nah, let him lie about and get RIPe first.. hehee

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago

LOL

thanks

Roxylee said 248 days ago
Gunga Din, ain't this cool
Give a mathematician a loop and see what happens.. Very creative, Bill.:-)

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
not a mathematician, but did have fun with this one!

thank you

Vic Holman said 248 days ago
pulled out all the stops
inventive and a total rip apart of the machine. very cool

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
thank you sir

this is pretty much a minimal minimalist piece

Diviner said 248 days ago
Lol, Love it
Its madness, I could not stop laughing. Thanks for that, its a very cool idea of killing the loop. Very original and highly amusing.

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
when i first hit upon the seed of the idea in an early mix, i burst out laughing myself!

guess i'm one sick puppy.

thanks

Absof***ing Brilliant
...I think I damaged something laughing so hard. Bill, this is pure genius...I'd kill to color this far outside the lines. I love how the drums and guitar seem to be playing together at first, before the drums finally get ticked off and begin to DETERMINEDLY end the guitar loop once and for all. I can see them standing over the near-dead loop, eyes crazy and grim, waiting for another twitch before emptying another clip.

Brilliant.

SmokeyVW said 248 days ago

1st Prize

you completely described what was in my mind (disturbed as it may be).

that is all. :D

& thanks

The Orbiting said 244 days ago
Yay!
I think you and Rik should do a track together. This is hilarious!

Doug Somers said 246 days ago
More madness like this we could all use a dose of...
Fan-tas-tic! I don't know how you get your inspiration but a misspent youth watching plenty of cartoons probably helped. My sides still hurt from laughing.

Your humbled listener,
Doug

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
it was actually inspired by an old radio program - i've been trying to find it on the web with no success...

thanks

peacepiano said 246 days ago
LOL
Got what he deserved!

Thanks
Bill

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
& then some!!!

thanks

Macaudion said 243 days ago
LOL..
I was thoroughly entertained!

And I walk away w/ a full on body smile.

You were clowning around and it certainly did get to me, Mister Smoky.

One of the more interesting pieces of the challenge. And mostly, you messed w/ pitch and time. it does do a lot. Talent be shinning.

Thanks! D

SmokeyVW said 169 days ago
.
you would not believe how much time i spent on adjusting the timing between the snare drum bursts and the suffering loop. the heart of the humor is that pacing IMHO.

thank you
