Description OK, a long twisted band story. Back in '64, I was the sound guy and roadie for this California Hippie band. We would haul our stuff around in my VW bus, which had a big Daisy painted on the side. We were pretty messed up, but we had a great singer/songwriter/bassist when we started, called Roger Sidwater. He wrote a bunch of songs, and then wandered off and left the band right before we were going to make our first album.

We started off being called Cygnet 6 (because my name was Schwan/Swan and they couldn't think of a band name, but after Sidwater left, we looked at the big daisy on the bus, and Ricky Right (keyboardist) suggested "Petal", and David G. Shepard (lead guitar player) wanted to call us "Daisy". Dave was a total womanizer, and always referred to his latest conquest as his "Daisy". Ricky won the band name contest, and we were called "Petal", but Dave took our best song and called it "One of these Daisies"... because every time we started to play this song, he would yell out to the girls in the audience "One of these daisies is going to be mine!" The band thought it was sick, but we put up with it for awhile, since he was the lead guitarist.

We recorded our first album in '68, and came up with the album name "Petal to the Metal". The song "One of these Daisies" was the #1 hit on the album. After the album came out, the band squabbled over money and pretty much broke up, but in '69 we decided to travel to Woodstock and see if we could play our hit song there. We found Roger Sidwater and Ricky Right, but Ricky was totally shroomed out and could barely play 2 notes at a time on the keys, and had maintained his vicious hatred of Dave. We almost didn't live through that drive. But we got up on stage and tried to perform our song anyway. Ricky had sold his organ long ago, so he had to play a regular piano that was on stage. Dave was dripping with testosterone, as usual, and started the song off with his usual yell to the crowd. This always upset Ricky, but this time it drove him nuts. When Ricky had his solo in the middle of the piece, I had forgotten to cut his microphone, and he grumbled about Dave while he was playing and his voice broadcast out over the stage! This totally freaked Dave out and the band got temporarily lost, but Sidwater's bass pulled them back together to finish the piece.

I had a reel-to-reel running, and recorded this rather touchy performance, and recently found the tape, so here it is.

Our band broke up after that performance, but several years later, some other British band stole our song idea, and changed it slightly and put it on their own similarly named album (Meddle), and it did really well... sigh.

	lol One of these daisies, I am gonna make you tell me the "real story" of your Woodstock. Since you were all of 8, maybe 9 years old...Hmmmm, I knew you were good but wow!!! You did a great job here. Who's sexy voice is that? Oh yes, must be Dave! :) Cool song Drak. You are such a whiz at making great tunes. Lots of fun as always.

	One of These Daisys Oh Dragon-man, this is fabulous! As I told you in my pre-peek, I love how you nailed the crowd noise, love the bending notes, and this funny little sense that this is sort of an ode to "Amazing Grace" (in a minor key). Yes, Pink Floyd-ish - the back story is a riot. You're a genius!

	short Yah, we had to cut the music short, because Dave was about to smack Ricky over the head with his guitar. :-) In truth, it was all I could put together in a few days... I'm pretty slow at writing music. I did try to make Dave's "announcer voice" sound really slimy and stoned, glad it worked. I like doing voices. the truth will out
well, I can admit that I never owned a VW bus, I hauled the band equipment around in my dad's Dodge Colt hatchback, of all things. But if it helps, I recently HAD to buy the DVD of Herbie the Love bug, because I still LOVE that movie (the original) and had to play it for my kids :-) Thanks for the listen and for suffering through my attempt to create a brain-dead-sounding keyboard solo, I did a bunch of tweaking to make it sound like it was played live by somebody with 3 brain cells left... and right at the end started cooking just in time to lose his place :-) I had fun writing the bio too, if you read back a bit, I explain what parts are real and not. Glad you stopped to listen!

Singing dragon retires
Hey Jack, roadies have a lot more fun (and stories) than the band! The sound guy is like the referee at a soccer game, doesn't matter what he does, everyone hates him. Thankless jobs! As for what parts are true, I answered most of that with Gail's response (and Guitapick.) Now you know a bunch more about me :-) I have lots of funny stories. Glad to share some here! Thank you for listening, and providing your own fun WSMJ music, I loved it! And I O.D.'ed on Pizza in high school, and could go the rest of my life without eating another slice, weird but true.

Love The Ride
... was that your bus I passed on Route 199? There's been quite a few VW busses on the road here, but I think i remember that big daisy. I was the guy on the ramshackle motorcycle with a big organ keyboard duct-taped to the sissy bar. (I missed the bus).

I love the haunting, bent notes that move around the bone of the piece like smoke. The backstory, going without being said, is priceless. A simply beautiful piece.

	Great Song Eduard! back beat, back story...
It takes some special talent to write a TRUE story and have it be interesting, so I "embellished" a little. But I was indeed the sound guy in a band in high school with a primadonna casanova lead guitarist named Dave, who fought with the primadonna lead singer, as they both wanted THEIR sound to be louder than the other guy's... and I got to be the shoulder for each of Dave's cast-off girlfriends each week. Sigh, so glad I'm out of High School, now I have a daughter there, SAME high school too! Thanks for listening, and enjoying the Floydian references and faked-up LP artwork.

drak, you're scarin me man. I've been working on an eerily similar concept for this woodstock thing. Melody, base line, windy background are all similar. Although I was mixing a little zeppy touch in with mine. Was trying to work a title based on atom heart somethin zep'ish.

I would definitely look like a copy-cat if I enter it now :-)

	As a real Pink Floyd Fan This sounds great! Just the beginning remembers very strong to Pink Floyd. I remember a faboulos concert in Germany in Hanover where they played "Echoes". been to a few concerts...
I never really liked live rock concerts interestingly (but love live classical concerts)... but the BEST was when Pink Floyd played at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles about 18 years ago(?) and I was in the 6th row back from the stage, right under the inflated pig/speaker. They played Division Bell stuff, and smatterings of older stuff from Wish you were here, etc... I still vividly remember it. Ahhh...

Anyway, glad you stopped by and enjoyed me Meddling with these Echoes from the past... I had fun melting "One of these days" and "Echoes" together, and coming up with my own little piece based on that :-) I also had fun poking fun at the band dysfunction that often happens with my story-line.

	One of these Daisies The strings work very well. Together with the ambient noise they make an ancient, almost "gothic" atmosphere. Like the choice of sounds throughout. The mix is excellently balanced, provides a great live-feeling. I like it :-)

	Petal Power The crowd noises at the beginning made me think I was about to hear Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! Very trippy music! These early band experiences (I just read Jiguma's) are wonderful to read, albeit somewhat painful at the same time... Anyway, nice job here, really enjoyed it! Wished it were longer.

I am glad you could stop in and listen to one of my more tongue-in-cheek funny pieces (this was part of a huge group effort here on Macjams by "Feter" to re-create Woodstock on a modern on-line scale, BTW.) I'm happy to know you enjoyed the music and the effort I put into creating a somewhat realistic crowd ambience (except for the perfect silence during the performance.) Hopefully you'll sample some of my other (quite varied) offerings here and critique what you like/don't like, so I can improve. I look forward to more of your music as well.

	well made Good atmospheric song, good timings, and most of the song had clear, well recorded sound. I just feel that you can add a little more atmosphere except the wind on your solos, or making a back rhythm for supporting your solo plays. I liked the style of your song and feelings in it, I must listen more from you. Keep the good work on.

This music was created very quickly for a "festival" here on Macjams. Many of us made a piece of music to sound like it was performed "live at Woodstock", so this is sort of a "humor/joke" piece of music for me. But the music is probably worth working on some more to create a more serious piece? I will think about your idea for more "trippy sound effects" in here, and percussion (there is no drum track, I didn't have time to make one!) Thank you for the encouragement and ideas. I save these ideas with the music so I can update it. And I love YOUR music, and can't wait to hear your next piece.

thank you so much for the kind words... to have you say you wish my music would go on forever... that is one of the most wonderful compliments I've ever had. So glad the music caught you up in the sentimental moment. This piece started as a 15 second sketch several years ago, and for this Woodstock challenge I extended it to this "short" length. Someday it may become a real song, a little more serious, without the keyboard "Goof" in the middle there.

	thanks Andreas Thank you for rewinding the clock and enjoying this partly fake rock concert. Yes, I have Gothic in my genes, it peeks out now and then. I think the "strings" everyone hears is the lead guitar at the beginning, when Dave does the ramp-up volume pedal on each note, so it fades in instead of having the strong guitar attack. ttfn, Drakonis
