Description If you're wondering why I'm posting material from my band it's because my wife and I just welcomed our second child in to the world on February 25th. His name is Harrison Bradford VanAusdal (he was born on George Harrison's birthday, but we had the name picked out long ago and this kid came a full month early so it was really just coincidence... and yes, I know that George's birthday was recently discovered to be Feb 24th, but he always celebrated it on the 25th) ANYWAY. with the new kid and all that I have no time to record. But I want to build up a little portfolio here so I'm posting away anyway.

This song is my least favorite as it's recorded. It could be SO much better. My guitar tone is completely wrong (it needs to be much cleaner and crisper). I also did a terrible job on vocals. They're very monotone and it's difficult for me to listen to this one. But there's a start to a decent song here that I may have to revisit sometime soon.
Lyrics Sweet Disaster © 2007

You need you like you need a bullet, baby.
I'm ill equipped for a woman like you.
It feels like I'm drowning, baby.
I'm feeling trapped and I don't know what to do.
This parade's like a walk of shame, baby.
Don't like attention but don't want to be alone.
You're afraid I'm a sweet disaster, baby
You're afraid that I'm too far gone.

You don't know what lonely is
You don't know what lonely is, my friend,
You've never stood at the edge of the world.

I need you like I need a bullet, baby
I'm waste deep in apathy.
Overrated and underpriveledged, baby
I'm knee deep in honesty.
It's not your fault I'm a sweet disaster, baby
It's not your fault you can never see it coming.
A jealous streak or a sweet surrender, baby.
Well either way you will walk away with nothing.

You don't know what lonely is
You don't know what lonely is, my friend,
You've never stood at the edge of the world.

You've got this feeling you don't want to leave me.
But girl you gotta believe me
Cause I don't want to be the one to right all these wrongs.

Keep posting
Congrats to you and your wife. Hope everthing's fine.

Love your posts. You had a pretty good band, man.

How weird that you picked out the name and he was born on his b-day.

Take it easy. We'll wait for you.

all is well
Thanks for commenting, LL. Everything is fine. he lost a lot of weight at first, which is normal for preemies but now he's packing 'em on. All is well, I just need to help out more when I'm home instead of holing myself up in the music room. But in the meantime I'll just post some songs so people can get to know me and my songs better. Thanks for your concern and for the compliments!

Congrats...and get some sleep!
Maybe this is your least fave (as recorded) but still stands up well against much of the music here. Very strong songwriting... if you ever take another crack at this let us all know!

Welcome Harrison!

Sleep?
What's sleep? Joking. My wife has it much worse. Although she does get naps during the day... hmm.... Anyway, thanks for your post. I'll keep posting things and I'll of course keep listening to what everyone's offering. I'll just not have anything "new" for a while. Thanks for stopping by!

first off,
great song. love the sound of a tele and a vox. i still have the tele, but the ac-30 is long gone.

second: congratulations on the new baby. they're amazing huh?

third: i was born on the 24th, and if i had been born on the 25th my mother was going to name me George. what do you mean his birthday was recently discovered to be the 24th? do i need to change my name?

4th: i love this song. kind of reminds me of Elvis Costello in away. soo hooky, and great parts and melodies. there's a cool slinky guitar part right before the bridge/middle section. very tasty.

Elvis
is the real king. Costello, of course. That's cool you can hear the Elvis influence in this song as he's always been a favorite of mine. And yes, new babies are amazing. Having a son is kind of scary because I can't fix cars and I don't know anything about football so I'm afraid he's at a disadvantage already.

About the birthday. George always celebrated his birthday on February 25th because that's what he was told was his birthday. Only recently family documents show that he was born on 11:50 on the 24th. You may have to change your name after all.

you know
my wife was a preemie, she weighed 2 pounds when she was born. she's on the slender side as a result, but i think it's hot. don't worry about fixing cars, you can teach your son how to play, and then he can get loads of girls when he's a little older (not that he wouldn't anyways).

Nice
This is a great piece of playing. I want to run out and buy an AC30. Great composition, really nice bridge. Everything sounds pretty good. I'm also a huge fan of acoustic drums on recordings around here (something that is lacking). Looking forward to more!

Lennon714 said 257 days ago
thanks
I wish I had the AC30 instead of the Marshall. But like grandpa says, "You got shit in one hand and wish in the other... which one fills up fastest?" Thanks, grandpa.

I'm glad you liked the song. You've got some solid material yourself so that's especially humbling.

Great quote!
"You got shit in one hand and wish in the other... which one fills up fastest?"

That's a great quote. That's pretty much America for you. We always want what's newest, fastest, coolest (I am guilty of this also). I am now realizing to just learn to use my existing tools better instead of "wishing" for better things.

haha
trust me. I'm the same way. I can't spend a day at work not looking at gear online. My grandpa also once said, "Panties aren't the greatest thing in the world, but they're right next to it". Brilliant, you old dog.

Yes!
Your grandpa is alright in my book!

Did you know...
....that the "Nutcracker Suite", by Tchaikovsky, was his least favorite work? Guess some folks disagreed...

This could fall into that category. I think it's seriously great...production and performance. Very pro with lots of feeling.

Congrats on the baby...I love kids...

wow
...and that's where the similarities between me and Pyotr end :). Thank you for your comment. We're all our harshest critics. I guess the point is to not let it get the best of us to where we give up or stop trying hard. Thanks again for the vote of confidence!

second opinion
great tune. not as bad as you think. Yeah I pick up a bit of early elvis c. too.

Congrates on the son as well!

Lennon714 said 256 days ago
Thanks!
You guys are too kind! Thanks for stopping by, Vic. It's always good to see you around.

rsorensen said 251 days ago
like you need a bullet baby
love the lyrics and all hooks in this one. and shut up you sang it great!

Lennon714 said 251 days ago
Thanks
You're always too nice! But I'll take that :). The thing about the lyrics that bothers me is I've always been against saying "baby" in songs. I've never used that as a term of endearment so saying it in songs is kind of weird. But thanks for the kind words. Some day I'll stop the pity party on my vocals!

Skean said 250 days ago
Way too cool
Dig it a lot... And I see it is your son at that picture on the other song I've listen on.
Thanks for sharing.

Take care

i like it
the guitar riff reminds me of the clash. i like it monotone i think it fits the style. with better mixing i think this would be awsome. i like the lyrics. i wouldn't really change the melody it fits the style perfectly.

Lennon714 said 246 days ago
thanks
I love the clash so I'll run with the compliment!
