I dig the graphic a very fitting pic indeed.....beautiful piano sound...very elegant....great mix....I don't believe I have anything negative to say here.... love the dynamics at work here....I love how I can here you hittig the keys harder....oh man then the strings drop in....how perfect is that....nice steady rolling groove....killer growl to the bass part....love the dirty guitar that pokes it's way into the mix....and the swirl swells....this moves nicely and efficiently....very pro sounding all the way around....killer job bro.... |

great work on the strings Very sweet piano melody. I would suggest to sustain the notes a little longer, I think it will sound fuller. Most of all I'm enchanted by the way you used the strings. That's very tastefully done. Is that midi guitar I hear? Haha, just kidding:-) Very charming track and a pleasure to my ears. -walt |

Excellent story - wonderfully interpreted by your composition. I get where you're going and enjoy the ride. Lost more friends to the angels than I care to admit in recent years. This is indeed a moving piece. |

Groovy cellos This is a big sound, fab geetar - I'm digging this vibe... very potent. High-strength,hi-grade just like the cider which no doubt inspired it. Give yourself 80,000 'virtual dollars' and celebrate. |

Nice one, dude This is beautifully arranged and played. You paint a wonderful evocative picture with your backstory, but the music alone tells a thousand tales. I love the piano and the strings work nicely. Great dynamics in the arrangement - I like the pauses and shifts in tone and instrumental color. This really is something else. I can see how Brdige to Terabithia would put you in this emotional space - I watched it with my son and found it sad, but beautiful. Kinda like this. Nicely done, my friend. Sorry it's taken me so long to get here! Peace. |

Listen I know I listened to this when it first came out, and i was very impressed. Been too busy I guess. The build up in the beginning is excellent. I kind of think Supertramp's Fools Overture when I hear this, very emotive sound. The piano is the backbone of the tune, and it sounds great. Thanks Bill |

really profound the title drew me in... the music stunned me. Reminds me a bit of a God is an Astronaut song I just discovered. |

heavenly master strokes here Alan. By the time the plane was landing I was high in the clouds. Brilliant in concept and great execution. Any Roger Hodgson influence with you? Simply incredible progression |

wow Alan strong very strong stuff... you've turned a perfect phrase here.. "the Angels' Share"... I often will spin the whole lyric out of a phrase that is pregnant with meaning and emotional weight... this certainly, coupled with the musical presentation, brings it home in spades... deep bow Scott |

Important There are a lot of songs here and very few of them have the ability to encompass so much at once time. To me this is a ballad, a story, hope, fear, the end, a new beginning, love, pride, prejudice...(so so many more) rolled into one. The playing is phenomenal and that piano truly carries the song. I think this is a song every one has to hear. Wow man. This is really good. |

Many, many more thanks are in order ... freefalleffect - Thanks Ian. I've learnt a few tricks to try get a bit more out of the regular GB piano sound .. but it could be played so much better with better touch and expression pedal/sustain variation etc by a real pianist (Walter noted)... I captured a guitar player's angry piano playing frustration so well .. I had to go in with the pencil tool later and soften off some of the key velocities :o). The bass parts growl and air moving flap .. is mostly the use of Absynth 4... a new thing for me. I too like the build ups and subsiding. The trick was to leave some of that played angst in the piano part. moorlandt - Thanks Walter. I'm glad the strings were enjoyed .. I tried a new idea herein .. I was waving my arms around like virtual violinist .. to try and time the bow strokes .. and then mapped that into slight volume automations .. it did to my ears help with the realism of the sounds used from JP4. Thanks again :o) Midi guitars! heheheheh ..pfft .. Skean - thanks for the re-visit. Re-visiting is cool ... you get to notice my bulk replies for starters .. lol .. and I get to know who came back to listen again. bud - thanks my friend. Sorry to hear that. bonnieprincejohnny - thanks BJP. Cider? Haven't touched that stuff since I was a teenager... well, apart from the cider bus at Glastonbury. The occasional wee dram suffices :o) I'll get on my virtual double-decker bus .. and go for a virtual summer holiday .. for virtually no cost at all :o) dajamaThanks David. Was a sad but beautiful film. I enjoyed it .. it wasn't what I expected at all .. it came as a bit of a surprise/shock .. my kids liked it too ..despite it's sad side. It helped they recognised the young female actress AnnaSophia Robb as Violet Beauregarde in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. peacepiano - Thanks Bill .. piano part was written first .. and then everything else added afterwards. Definitely will be a hint of Supertramp/Hodgson influence if I try piano .. since I think Supertramp and Ben Folds are about the only two artists I have in my CD collection that feature piano so prominently and consistently... that I like. MissChaos - thanks... if I've managed profound .. I can relax and get back to some quality nonsense now .. :o) I checked out the song you mentioned, I think? was it by "Fragile" or "Coda" or "from dust to the beyond"? (I'm guessing Fragile? lol). karmatoburn thanks John - oh definitely like a bit of 'best of Supertramp' from time to time... thought was a little more modern ..and even simpler.. might need to get a better piano plug-in than GBs own for a more Coldplay sound. It's flattering to hear you thought my piano playing was 'ok'. If I re-did it .. it would perhaps be the first thing I'd get a real keys player to redo. Scott Carmichael - thanks very much Scott. I think it's great to be inspired just from a few words or a notion ... I noted there wasn't so many songs on iTunes database at least with that title too. spitlogic - thanks alot Mitchell ..too kind.. I do tend to do 'concentrated' ..can't help it.. I have to work on diluting things a little .. lol .. spin 'em out to 4-5 mins. Perhaps with some vocal verses in this (which Kallocain has some ideas) will draw it out a fraction. I'd love everyone to hear this. paddler - really? That's funny .. to me I thought they sounded kinda predictable .. well .. there you go .. you never know .. dran? Drain or dram? lol I think cello's are my favourite crossover instrument.... I am currently analysing why this appears to be the case. Thanks Richard... I got visions of it being used for fancy car commercial for some reason... eek... :o) |

Woa Very inward in a retrospctive kind of way. It has classic chord movement. I like the strings very moving. The build up and slow down back in to the main theme with the lead is an excellent touch. Enjoyed this alot! |

Sorry I'm late Alan! Must be piano/orchestration week :) This is very cool - great production, and a really good listen. Like the guitar parts a lot - cool drumming. Is there a bass track? If so it needs to be louder, if not ..... wouldn't hurt;) Nice post. Neil |

Gorgeous Alan! See what I miss when I'm caught up in school! You've really outdone yourself. I'd love to hear this done by a full orchestra! Wouldn't that be lovely? I also can't help but feeling, b/c of the structure of the song, that there's room for voice here. Forgive me if I'm saying anything that's already been said--I haven't read all the comments...back to work for me! Hope to catch you on chat again soon. |

Great piece I love the story you gave and the whole idea behind this song. I think you could have made it even longer, drawn out some of the themes a little more in order to really tell the story. It's a great instrumental and I look forward to hearing more of your stuff. Thanks! |
