Description This is my entry in Feter's WoodstockMJ Festival - and I'm proud to be a part of it. I'm sorry to say that although I was at Woodstock (at the tender age of 15) with my brother Will - I remember less about the music than I do about the Hog Farm commune that set up a kitchen in the woods (see picture) complete with tree swings and naked children - and fed me when the concessions ran out of food - or the lines were too long.

This song is less in the style of the times and more in the spirit - while reflecting a bit of today as well I hope.

Thanks to Feter for putting this idea together.
Woodstock MJ

Peace
Lyrics Everyone’s looking
For someone with the answers
Who can lighten our hearts
And turn the world around

People are waiting
People are wiating
People are waiting
for a change to come

The pain and the srtruggle
Just seems too much to bear
Peace is so fragile
On this cold cold ground

It’s time to stop waiting
Let’s start believing
That a new day is dawning
Wipe the clouds from the sun

There’s peace if you want it
Just imagine a future
Where our children are brothers
In a world that is one

People are waiting
People are wiating
People are waiting
for a change to come

Just ask your neighbor
If you can do something
To lighten his load
Cause we’ve just begun

It’s time to stop waiting
Let’s start believing
That a new day is dawning
Wipe the clouds from the sun

You have ....
... definitely captured the Woodstock feeling here .... wonder whatever happened to my tye dyed jeans with the peace signs on them, my peasant skirt and those leather thongs (they call them flip flops now) with the strap that went "around" your big toe instead of between it and the next toe .... oh .... maybe there is more of the Woodstockness rubbing off on me here ... I feel dizzy

bud said 297 days ago
If you feel dizzy
just sit down - if that helps - lie down - it's even better - just look up at the stars and let the sound wash over you...
Thanks for dropping by.

No time to waste eh Feter?
there's a world that needs saving and music has the power to heal. Wear your love like heaven.

paul f. page said 298 days ago
I love...
...hearing the crowd behind this track, Bud. Your expert guitar is the perfect accompaniment and you have written a mantra-like chorus that is easy to keep in my head, something definitely very much of the '60's style of writing. Your production quality is, as usual, top notch. You just seem to spin these off with great ease.
Peace.
Paul

bud said 297 days ago
Thanks for the kind comments Paul
you're a very generous man. These songs come with Terrier tenacity - not ease. Once I get started I refuse to give up until I have something that's not too embarrassing.

peacepiano said 298 days ago
FIts
This fits the Woodstook theme like a glove! I especially like he Neil Young like vocals.

Thanks
Bill

bud said 297 days ago
Nice of you to drop by Bill
Feter came up with a cool idea here and it was a lot of fun finding the vibe.

Barretok said 298 days ago
Yeah...
It definitely puts you right in the original Woodstock "mood". Very cool song.

bud said 297 days ago
Dug your track too
Can't wait to collect the whole set. Thanks for the comment.

Mcboy said 298 days ago
man
o man.....this sounds very authentic to the time....u sound like my mom's old vinyl records all cleaned up and digitized....many bows....

bud said 297 days ago
Hmmm -
Does that make me old - cleaned up and digitized? Guess so! I'll go with it. Thanks for stopping by.

SmokeyVW said 298 days ago
this...
...sounds like the style of the times to me...

thanks

bud said 297 days ago
Thanks Bill
I didn't wanna go the psychedelic route so I went for a utopian dream song. Glad it worked for ya.

lengold said 298 days ago
This sounds
perfect for the time Bud, and is a very good song too, and well performed.
Cheers

People Are Waiting
This is GREAT! I was about 15 at the time too, living in Connecticut, and headed up to Woodstock a little late in the game in a car full of people (actually, a VW bus naturally). We never got there because once you got even kind of close (like in the same county), the roads were so clogged you couldn't go forward. So I spent Woodstock trying to get to Woodstock, and trying to get back from the area of Woodstock! That's adolescence for you. Anyway, this song so takes me back to the times, I agree you've captured it wonderfully and this is a real winner!

bud said 297 days ago
We left early and got there without too much hassle
but by the time we did they weren't even taking tickets and the whole scene was already crazy. We left before Sunday - wet, muddy, and hungry.

said 297 days ago
Now this is sweet
Great song bud, totally fits the theme, modern yet neo
love the chorus and live sounds

bud said 297 days ago
Thnaks Tom -
Sounds a little too modern to me - but I was going for the message more than the medium. Glad you stopped by.

Kenta_and_Linda_Rocks_together said 297 days ago
Wow

I just know you're gonna trip the crowd out
when you take the stage. Can't wait. Nice of you to listen and comment.

Dj French Toast said 297 days ago
wow Bud
Great song man ! And the people are waiting for the change but then we realize that there is a reason for everything and its just not because they were old but someday we'll face the same demons that we shunned ..then the moment of truth when we choose our path ....

bud said 297 days ago
The moment of truth
will come when people stop waiting and start believing. As simple as the message of this song is - I kinda got into it as I was singing it. It started as an homage to a simpler time and became something I could relate to today.

michael2 said 297 days ago
nice one Kevin
this totally has the woodstock vibe, even the lyrics; is it a refreshing world view, or is it drug addled optimism? love the guitar sound and your vox are perfect. i need to jump in on this challenge when i get a few hours. great job.

bud said 297 days ago
I know you'll do something cool
this is not drug addled but is definitely optimistic. When I look at my kids who are now 13 and 17 I gotta find some hope in the present.

lavalamp said 297 days ago
Dig it
This would have definitely been appropriate for a venue like this.

Great job.

Vic Holman said 297 days ago
fits the friday nite bill
what most people don't know or remember but CCR played there. I guess they didn't get filmed. But in the Bud style this has a CCR vibe going on

plaid shirt and kustom amps all the way.

bud said 297 days ago
Howdy Vic -
You called it - the friday bill
that's what I remember best. As I recall the day was Richie Havens - John Sebastion - Maharishi - Joan Baez - Canned Heat etc and then at night it was CCN and a bunch of other bands that became a blur to me I'm afraid. This was my Youngbloods contribution to the Festival.

sschedra said 297 days ago
Yes!
I think it really does carry the feel of the times. The guitars are just perfect.
Great job!

I just got a chance to stop by your place and I intend to return. Nice of you to listen and comment.

Heightened said 297 days ago
This has Woodstock feel
all over it. What an amazing time to grow up. Wish I were there!!!

bud said 296 days ago
Sometimes I wish I had grown up -
it wasn't that easy to do at the time - I'm still working on it. Glad you could dig this tune.

said 297 days ago
Had a Feeling
...you'd come up with something that feels this natural and real. When I saw Feter's challenge, I thought, 'this is Bud's backyard, boy!' Your music has already taken me to several outdoor concerts with a hot sun beating down over a crowd as guitars wash over us, and I'm back there again now. Mud on my bare feet and a breeze blowing thru my hair, and it feels like I never want it to end.

bud said 296 days ago
I figured that my bookends would be
Woodstock and the first Lollapalooza tour - but I've just added Burning Man to the list of collective exposure to the elements and the weird ways of creative forces. Wish me luck - I think I might need it. I expect a lot less rain and mud in the Nevada desert at the end of August. Thanks for the kind support here.

davisamerica said 296 days ago
peace bud....
man i would have been by sooner ... but got lost up by the free stag and then things just weird from there and i couldn't find your tent... oh well .... This is just cool bud ..... U Nailed It!

bud said 296 days ago
It's easy to get lost around here man
so much is happening. I'll be by the med tents around three if you're looking for me.

sloparts said 296 days ago
Yes they are and have always been.
Great song writing Kevin and a solid production. Love the way you put this together, make me want to go back and be there.

Excellent work Bud

Ed

bud said 296 days ago
Thanks Ed -
you can say that again. There's waiting - and then there's wondering what your waiting for - that can take some time too. Sad to say. I really appreciate the writing and production comments from someone as talented as yourself.

willnlf said 296 days ago
Fine...
...lyric and vocal. I hear a little bit of Wooden Ships in the guitar lead. I also thought of Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready, so, yeah, you're in the right groove. Glad we made it to the original together.

bud said 296 days ago
Glad we made it there together too -
it was nice thing you did - taking me along. I can hear the Wooden Ships thing too now that you mention it - though I was going for a basic Steven Stills tone. People Get Ready makes sense too - but honestly I was afraid it sounded a little like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I had to redo the vocal line after the first pass - cause I almost went into "take me to the place I lo-ove, take me all the way...". strange - but true.

willnlf said 296 days ago
Funny...
...but I heard that Chili sound too. It didn't stick so I let it go.

Ibstrat said 296 days ago
You really
know how to get cool guitar sounds- not to mention great vocals.I swear I can smell pot when I'm listening to this.Far out man!

bud said 294 days ago
If I had your chops
I'd play clean - but with what I got I gotta dress it up good. Been using a combo of Line 6 toneport and GB fx. Thnaks for the kind comments.

DWL said 295 days ago
Convincing!
A little of Neil Young in there I think.

Bloody excellent song anyway, great lyrics and a wonderful simplicity and an authentic sound.

Cheers

bud said 294 days ago
Kinda like strawberry tart
with a bit of rat in it - there's a bit of Neil in everything I do. Can't wash him out - can't rinse him out. Thanks for stopping by.

guitapick said 295 days ago
Very in the style...
...picture and music/lyrics bring me right back to those days...moving on our own...changing the world...must keep passing on the message...

...hate to say that I sold my Woodstock ticket. Knew it would be seriously crowded and I have a hard time with events like that...

But this is a cool tune, Kevin. Thanks...

bud said 294 days ago
Thanks Bob
it was fun getting all wide eyed and optimistic for a while. Maybe I'll send it to the Obama camp. Sorry you sold your ticket - we missed you.

Karmatoburn said 295 days ago
tremolo
How cool is that! You nailed the perfect lyrical and musical time capsule.
What a rush to have actually been there. This was the next best thing.

bud said 294 days ago
Glad you liked it
tried to channel the vibe - though it was a long time ago.

Z293 said 292 days ago
This Woodstock MJ
Festival is really taking a lot of us back in time. Nice authenic sound to this one and judging by your picture it looks like you haven't shaved since 1969. Bud, Bud, Bud...you can still hear the crowd.

Smooth
Bud, this song has a great tone. All the tracks fit together nicely also. Your vocals are a bit hot, but the messages in them are pointed, so it's a good hot.

Though I didn't enter this challenge, I like the music it's produced.

Cool song, from the music to the lyrics.
-greg

bud said 286 days ago

You're right = the vocals are a bit hot - after a while you stop hearing your own voice and lose objectivity. Looking forward to you LIOLI7 entry. Your recent stuff has been great.
