Keywords kind of like Queens of the Stone Age in a way but not really (1)collab (67)dlb (15)rsorensen (3)
Description Now this was fun. dlb posted an amazing instrumental he called 'Mental Groove' and offered it up for someone to put vocals on it. I immediately jumped at the opportunity and was inspired enough to kick out a few tracks in a couple of hours. I wanted to keep it light and loose like the music so I didn't spend a lot of time overthinking anything. Anyway, thank you Dave for the collab. I had a blast!
Lyrics Breakit

I've got no time for anyone but me
And you don't care 'bout anyone but you
If I ain't got no time for you
And you don't care 'bout what I do
Then maybe we can meet somewhere between

I don't know 'bout anything of love
And you don't care 'bout all my little songs
There's so much more that we can say
But words always get in the way
So why do we pretend to get along?

Why do we fake it?
Why can't we make it?
I don't like you
Don't like me
Let's agree to break it

Well I have been around enough to see
That girls like you have got a lot of needs
But girl you have got everything
There's nothing more that I can bring
Into your life you haven't seen before

I don't know 'bout anything of love
And you don't care 'bout all my little songs
There's so much more that we can say
But words always get in the way
So why do we pretend to get along?

Why do we fake it?
Why can't we make it?
I don't like you
Don't like me
Let's agree to break it

Whistling
Ridd,

this rocks man! What a groove that bass has going on. Is that all Dave on the instruments? Your vocals and whistling are super.

This is an awesome clab.

Great work guys.

Bob

bob
yep everything's dave except the vox and whistles. you can hear why i was so inspired! thanks for listening

dlb said 272 days ago
Fantastic!
Ridd,
i love what you've done this. I didn't think it could be turned into a song, but what a song you've turned it into! Love the whistling, are you a classically trained whistler? hahaha Great stuff, thanks for your wonderful additions, all the best to you,

- Dave

rsorensen said 272 days ago
:)
hah thanks dave. no training, just a lot of deep breaths and reverb ;)
cheers.

Clever
This is a great collab. Very clever lyric and great rhythym underneath. Only thing it needs now is the guitar break in the middle.
Really good job guys,
Stephen

rsorensen said 272 days ago
guitar break
yeah I thought of that too but i really like the heavier guitar that doubles the bass and wanted to preserve that. That said, might be worth a try next time around for sure. Thanks for listening.

Great
great collab.... The track with guitars are great... and your vocals are sounding good... and i like when you whistle... Great collab... Thanks for sharing...

rsorensen said 272 days ago
:)
thanks man. truth be told, the whistling was meant to be only temporary until I came up with lyrics for the chorus, but it stuck!

Foot-tappin'...
...finger snappin' fun! This has all kinds of groove and hooks going on. The sounds are easy-listening awesomenss. Easy listening as in soft on the ears, not as in made for elevators. The jangly guitar and the voice especially.

rsorensen said 272 days ago
hah
Thanks! I couldn't stop tapping my foot when I was recording the vocals either - which made for a couple of very shaky takes! Thanks for commenting.

Wonderful Swinger
I heard the original and wow what a transformation with the addition of words and whistles. This is certainly a inspired collab. The original was very cool and just so masterfully made complete by Mr.rsorensen and his God given abilities. Two big thumbs up to the both of you.

Blessings,

rsorensen said 272 days ago
thanks chaser
i think 'inspired' is the key word on this one for me. This song is a bit of a departure from my usual style, but when I heard Dave's original, I just had to be a part of it. Surprisingly everything vocal-wise came pretty quickly and it all fell nicely into place. I'm pretty darn satisfied with the whole experience and the end result! Can't wait to do more collabs with the huge pool of talent here. More coming!

grooooooovy gravy!
This is great! Dave, your music bed has swagger, great fun! Excellent guitar and bass writing and playing there! And Mr. Sorensen, your additions are amazing here... the chatter, whistling, and lyrics and singing all melt into the nooks and crannies of the music like... like creamy frosting on hot cinnamon buns... like they were made for each other. And you have a darned good singing voice too! Had me tapping my toes and bobbing, saying "yah baby, scat!" :-)
ttfn,
Drakonis

Hey thanks drak! I've been meaning to check out your stuff. I've heard good things! Thanks for stopping by.

Great collab
Ok, that's a really cool backing track. And your vocals have just the right tone of carefreeness over them. Nice job on that doubling in the octave. Very different effects on the two vocals yet they still mesh well.

rsorensen said 272 days ago
thanks vic
Always appreciate when you drop by. Actually I was hesitant to include the bg vox but I think I buried em enough that the pitch problems aren't too noticeable ;)

lavalamp said 272 days ago
Do you know...?
This is absolutely fantastic. Musicianship is very, very nice. Jazzy, yet punky at the same time. Well-written lyrics. What's your story Ridd?

Dave

rsorensen said 272 days ago
thanks dave
story? just a bunch of words thrown together that happen to rhyme is all ;)
thanks for listening

I can see why you had fun with this one. It has a quick and cool groove to it. It's amazing how vocals can help to complete a song. Great job to both of you!

rsorensen said 272 days ago
thanks nick
fun indeed! thanks for checking it out, sir.

dlb said 271 days ago
i must agree!
The vocals have taken this track to another level. It gets better every time i listen to it, and that's quite a few times i assure you! Ridd, thanks it's been a pleasure :-)

rsorensen said 271 days ago

yikes
what a gas. first thx for turning me onto dlb. The music is outstanding. The fact that you knocked this off in a couple of hours blows my mind. In sounds like you two collab'd for months. Its threaded so tight.

rsorensen said 270 days ago
:)
thanks karma! yeah i think it came to me so fast because the music is so inspiringly good. it usually takes me a couple of days and around 25 listens to come up with a solid melody and lyrics, but this style of music for whatever reason really forced it out of me immediately. great fun!

dlb said 270 days ago

Allright!!
First off let me just say being a bass player I really appreciate every note on the bass. Then the singing with the wistle takes it to another place. A strange and weird place . This song needs nothing , just one thought the ending just cuts out.. was that planned or was that me? Oh well great song anyway!

dlb said 268 days ago
thanks
for your comments ego, nothing was planned with the music, it's all first take really. I had no idea what it was gonna be, until Ridd got unboard and made a decent song out of it!

like the snap your fingers bassy Jazzy tune. Interesting words and the whistling works for me. Nice strumming and cool ending.

Good Song
I liked this one a lot. I especially liked the way you rhymed agree with me in the chorus.

Nice chord changes and a great bass. Really good rhythm part.

Way to go.

cool
right when I think you're going to zig, you zag. This is so different from what I've heard from you, but it still feels natural. That's what's so impressive to me. You wouldn't never think these were done seperately. Great job to the both of you for working out such a wonderful track!

rsorensen said 232 days ago
zigzag
thanks eric. this was different but a lot of fun for me. we're working on another one now.
