Description My great friend, band mate, songwriting partner and all around solid dude, Sean is here now as Remark80. I recommend all of you hear his great tunes.

This song was one I wrote for him to sing. And about 15 years ago, he sang the sh*t out of it. We released it together on our band (Rain Kings) debut. We were lucky to see the record do pretty good on radio in the midwest and had a blast playing the best clubs in Chicago.

So I had a chance to do my version of this song and seeing Sean around here made me nostalgic.

It's a "get drunk and listen to old records over a break-up song."
Lyrics Whiskey and Old Records

© John LaMantia for Boss Hook Music, 2008

When she’s here I feel nothing.
Now she’s gone I feel the same.
I know some days I will be sorry.
I know some days there will be pain.

Sing it blue and sad, make me wish that I had stayed.
I’m just a foolish lad, make me wish that I had stayed.

The beach is dirty in the Spring time.
The rain tries washing it away.
When I really feel lonely.
It’s whiskey and old records for the day.

Sing it blue and sad, make me wish that I had stayed.
I’m just a foolish lad, make me wish that I had stayed.

Whiskey ...
a wonderful recording, great track, awesome and cool performance. Love the vocals; what a band - wow, congrats!!

nice song
and well performed. I like the vocals particularly, as someone else here has said, they are warm. They put me in mind of Levon Helm in some respects though still very much your own. I also like the way nothing intrudes on centre stage.

John.

You're unquestionably great
in this sort of stuff, John, so deeply sentimental (I apologize for this word, I don't know if in English it has the positive meaning I want it to have....), meaning full of sentiment and deep feelings... I remember this from iComp, but it sounds a little different. Is it just a wrong impression of mine? I would even say it sounds a little better than I remember... (so now I've ultimately showed my complete silliness! LOL)

good tune
A pleasure listening to this fine tune again. Love the weaving lead guitar in there, as well as everything else!

smoothie
really outstanding. I esp like the strings, piano. & percussion. The vocal is heartfelt and the guitars have just the right amount of edge. Dig it

Love this
and this is from one who stayed. A very thoughtful song. Every time you stay with someone, stay with a job or stay in one place there are millions of things that you are giving up. One has to ask oneself sometimes "Is this the best place I can be?"

One of my Favs
Love it bro it brings back memories of days of old. I remember you showing me this tune and singing it in your dining room for the first time at your apartment in Rogers Park. I love the vox you put on this one and the backing vox toward the end. Very cool my brotha.
