Keywords another indie rock song (but mellow this time) (1)
Description I wrote the lyrics to this a long time ago: no kid, no wife, nothing but one tour after the other. i found these in a notebook and was cracking up thinking about how simple life used to be. if i had money for coffee, rent and a fresh set of strings, my expenses were covered. pretty much all i did was play music and chase girls.

obviously things are much different now, but i decided to record this anyways. turned out okay for blowing it out in a couple of hours. it's a little lo-fi (there's something wrong with my mic and i just blasted all the parts out quickly). think early Beck or Pavement with this one (if they messed around with a bossa nova beat).
Lyrics they're worried about losing their hair
we're worried about how
we're gonna pay the rent
on the first of the month

i'm thjnking about time travel
i'm thjnking about how i'm gonna paint my room
and put some gas in the van

(chorus)
i'm worried i'm losing sleep over you
i'm bored of my clothes
and all my shoes
my hair is a mess
it's in my eyes
i hate sleeping alone

they worry about crime and traffic
they worry about how they're
gonna buy that home
with the swing in the yard

i'm thinking about next tuesday
the tour begins
and i haven't called
yet i drove by your house

(chorus)
i'm worried i'm losing sleep over you
i'm bored of my clothes
and all my shoes
my hair is a mess
it's in my eyes
i hate sleeping alone

(bridge)
it's all the same
we re-arrange the chords we play
it's all the same
every little club we always play
Hardware intel mini mac, line6 toneport, ibanez artcore hollowbody, cheap ibanez bass, metal slide
Software: GB4, line 6 gearbox, free alpha synth, remedy synth

Nice Shuffle
That Robbie Krieger slide is a deal maker
Great composition, well written, those keys are cool
Wow whatta song!! Its ipod bound

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks
i love robbie krieger (more than i love the doors actually). so glad you liked this one.

dirigent said 281 days ago
cool song
Enjoyed the wonderful track :-) thanks, congrats!

michael2 said 281 days ago
so glad
you liked this one, i did it so quick i wasn't really sure what to think when i finished. posted it anyways, figured if it was bad, someone would tell me why. thanks for listening.

peacepiano said 281 days ago
Laid Back
Interesting setting for a song about worries. The worries are there, but the musics washes over you in waves relaxed slide guitar. Very much enjoyed.

Thanks
Bill

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks
peacepiano. i'm a retarded bass player, so it doesn't have quite the groove it should, but that's life huh? thanks for listening.

stratjmp said 281 days ago
nice
i really enjoyed this song, it does kinda sound beckish and a little pavement too which are both great!

michael2 said 281 days ago
stratjmp
thanks a bunch. glad you liked. hey what does your nick stand for?

Feter said 281 days ago

what a cool rockin song is this ..your singing
just so great here my friend .more greater than
any of those bands you mentioned !!. the guitar
back sound so groovey ...KUDOS !

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks feter
glad you enjoyed this one. i had some problems with the bottom end (really noticeable when you turn it up), but what's new. i seem to be forever trying to get a good bass sound and a decent vocal sound. but i end up writing another song and just move along anyways. thanks for listening.

bud said 281 days ago
Great set of lyrics and just the right delivery
Love the production - the high keyboard backing and the windy bits are great against the slide. Excellent.

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks kevin
i added the synth bits to try and make it more experimental than bad half baked bossa nova. the wind is just the noise turned up on the synth with the note too low to make out. i like it tho.

Karmatoburn said 281 days ago
hard for me
sometimes to adequately convey how a song magically transports me to another time like this one does. I enjoyed this immensely. Lots of tasteful flourishes that raise the production bar.

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks
for the kind words karmatoburn. i'm pretty confident about my being able to come up with parts and sounds (at least the ones i want to hear), it's the getting everything to sit together right that i have a problem with (specifically vox and bass). you are too kind my friend, thanks for listening.

Vic Holman said 281 days ago
not that lo fi
like the breezy care free style. true times change.

is the ibanez artcore new?

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks vic
and thanks for the beeday wishes you sent. i've had the ibanez for awhile (it was the best hollowbody i could afford). i've been using it lately for no particular reason other than it is the gtr that is next to my computer. maybe i'll swap it out with my tele tomorrow. thanks for listening.

gail60 said 281 days ago
Woo Hoo.............
another Michael hit! Man! You are so talented. Really enjoyed this easy laid back song. Your voice is awesome as always and glad to find out that you are a retarded bass player. Explains so much....since I am a retarded pianist! :) Great job Michael!! Thank you for this one.

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks gail60
very kind of you; what are you talking about? you're a great piano player. thanks so much for giving this a listen, appreciate it.

Doadars Uncle said 281 days ago
Hey Michael
Nice! Great groove. Toe tapping! I like the vocal expression, general feel.

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks
toe tapping is where i wanted to be. this song is not in the best key for me vocally, but I don't mind bad vocals at all if there is some character to them. figured "that'll do." thanks so much for listening.

biba_nova said 281 days ago

Funny how your views change over time, isn't it Probably the same amount of worry, but a different pot to pour them into.

The guitar work on this is great (love the tremelo) and your voice , as ever, sounds beautifully worn.

Great, but what else can we expect?

steve

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks steve
at one point i found some old journals, which were coming from such a different place than i am now it was weird to read them. ended up throwing them out in an attempt at mental feng shui. in 10 years time i wonder what i will think about my thought processes today.

thanks so much for listening.

Full of imagery.Yet another finely crafted tune M2.Lots of really cool, sutle elements and certainly worthy of another listen,or two,or....

hey good to see you, it's been awhile. glad you liked this one. had a good time recording this (instead of doing the chores i should have been doing). so great to hear from you.

lengold said 281 days ago
Another
beautifully written song. Love the gentle treatment - just carries you along with it. Bossa Nova - great idea.
Cheers
Len

michael2 said 281 days ago
thanks lengold
since i hate building drum tracks from the ground up, i will probably end up writing a song around every loop I have eventually. thanks so much more listening, and for your kind words. i'm glad that you got something from this tune.

You've done it again Michael. Love the laid back feel. Great vocals. Look forward to the next one. Mark

thanks so much. glad you liked this one, definitely enjoy when people can get into something i've done. thanks for listening.

rsorensen said 281 days ago
well..
wow. I think this is my favorite song you've ever posted. Immediate download. I'm a HUGE Pavement, Cake and Flaming Lips fan and this one evokes the same reaction I get from listening to them. Excellent work, Michael. Love the lo-fi of it - don't change a thing.

michael2 said 281 days ago
hey thanks
i love those bands too, i guess the keys is what gives it that flaming lips touch (that and the whiney vocals). i'm so glad that you gave this a listen, thanks.

A nice and peaceful guitar sound... This sounds great... Reminds me of John Lennon.... Very good.... It's a good melody... And the vocals and harmony sounds fantastic... Thanks for sharing this....

so nice of you to stop by. had a lot of fun recording this one (and looking through the old notebooks for lyrical ideas). thanks for listening.

Hi Michael

You made a very good melody here and with cool playing and you also got a very nice voice .. makes the song exellent.

This song
has an amazing feel. It's like a snapshot of someone's (lot's of people's)life.Fantastically well done. That background keyboard riff makes the song.I wish I could sing like that.

dajama said 279 days ago
Very cool track
This has a great vibe, and somehow conveys a lot about a time and a place. I love that slide, and your vocal on this is excellent, expressive and haunting. You never fail to impress, and this is another great one. Nicely done. Peace.

hihi
After reading the story I can't help but not to take the lyrics too seriously. Weird, it is almost like I am judging you for having been young. It places my own futilities in perspective, cool! Digged this one even better than worries, almost perfect production. Laid back beats, nice guitar playing and enough variety in it to keep it way above average. I can see this one in a movie like No country for old men. A nice slow road movie with credible players and a slow ending. Tres cool!
Marc

michael2 said 278 days ago
thanks Marc
glad you liked the song. no ones worries are any more insignificant than anyone elses, just different. my worries at the time were so small, and yet they seemed so much more overwhelming than the ones I have today (which are kind of huge at times). Thanks so much for checking this out, I've been posting a lot of stuff lately that isn't necessarily your genre of choice.

stephendavis said 278 days ago

Very nice guitar all the way through. Love the synth work. Great track. BTW (I feel like such a noob) I installed the free Alpha Synth... now how do I use it (i.e. where do i open it from etc.)?

simple yet sounds great. It has a nice melody and feel to it. I like the roughness it shows. Sometimes less takes are better.

Nicely done

Again, when I listen to your music
I am reminded how zany the world is: instead of hearing your music on the radio I hear unadulterated crap! Of course there are great songs out there but compared to your stuff - not even close!
