not only is the song sweet, the lyrics and singing are great as well, distinctive "fake-lo-fi" production makes this warmer, and it is great to have you throw your hat back in the ring...
Hey Look! Men without hats! (Ha! made you smile!)

It propels itself!
This song isn't very short, it is just right. A beautiful composition and excellent execution. In all of my days here, I have only found one or maybe two Ballads that I saw fit to comment on. And boy, this one hit the spot. The final words are the needed cherry on top of a sweet cake. Not bittersweet, just right...just righ:-)
Awesome my friend, it shows your good heart in such a delicate though convincing way. And I already knew that, it is good to hear it being reflected in a song.

I really like the melody your have going here. Short maybe, but very sweet. Easy to listen to over and over. For such a short piece you have a lot going on, and it all works very well.

Nice one Jack!
Lovely song and really well done. What's the story with the crackling at the start? Was that supposed to be there? Musically excellent, and a top song, but I'd really like to hear it with a "normal" vocal - I think the lo-fi sound of the vocal doesn't quite line up with the clarity of the instrumentation.

I'd like to hear a hi-fi version.

Bloody good song though, despite my nitpickyness :)

such a nice song which sounds like an excerpt from a' musical' I hope we get a longer version at a future date though. Love the slightly removed vocal as if it's being thought rather than singing.

apb said 314 days ago
Lovely ..
.. really fine song, sentiment, delivery... heartfelt.

My only crit/suggestion/improvement would be small on the vocal production: really very well sung btw but I wasn't keen on the ELO/Beatle-esque distant reverb (in headphones .. less in monitors I noticed).. was a little harsh in contrast to the smooth strings...could be nice as an intro verse effect .. but I'd like sometime to hear them in my face and 'warm and cosy' for a song like this... perhaps if you extended it and worked in drums .. that might be the transition point?? I get the LP low-fi aspect .. but it would be nice to 'hop' from that .. since it's it's not on the strings .. they sound very polished. Hmm, perhaps a little 'plosive' on "T"s: 1:00-1:04.

There .. I told you :o)

But as usual, this is just how I hear things ..I'm no expert .. I also hear a really excellent song... and none of these little tweaky things could take that away. Excellent Jack, short and sweet.

davisamerica said 314 days ago
right then alan

i would bet many a moon struck lad composed such songs to you!

The Infinites said 312 days ago
Great piece of work
I am in the soppy department tho' and would like to hear this re-recorded with a softer vocal treatment/production to match with the overall feeling of the music and the lyrics.

That said, this is a great song and if it wasn't for the harshness of the vox I would have this sitting comfortably in my "Songs That Say I Love You" playlist at home...

Right now tho' it's a diamond that needs a polish. Great composition.

Cheers,

Jim

davisamerica said 311 days ago
right then jim!
probably agree on vox and ... fingers crossed ... a MJ er might be working on smoothing a different version .... non the less ... thanks for the listen and thoughtful comments ... keep that space reserved ... maybe it can be filled soon.... cool u r and thanks!

The Infinites said 310 days ago
Is there any chance
that you have a mystery female MJer lined up - now there would be an interesting development...

It's great when constructive crit is taken the way it was intended - to often seen as bad, when it's more about helping to improve. APB, a fellow Scot commented on this first, maybe there's something about our softer Celtic nature that makes us latch on to vocal treatment.

I will not fill that space until V2 arrives!

Cheers

Jim

davisamerica said 310 days ago
hello again jim!!!
jiguma [neil], alan [apb] and eduard [drakonis] and you ... are honestly some of the folks i love to see comment just for the constructive comments you folks offer .... seems if you get thinned skinned on this growth and improvement is gonna suffer .... so i feel id anyone takes the time to offer such comments ... must mean they like the basics fairly well and that is way cool. about the female vox .... hmmmm .... any suggestions there on who?

Heightened said 299 days ago
