Description brown shoes
by woofer3

A song about Reginald John Christie of 10, Rillington Place fame -written about 1992 though this recording made in June 2006- recorded partly on Cubase3.7 and partly on Cubase sx - The song says be sure of people before you trust them .

I tried to get a Jerry Lee Lewis type of Sun piano sound on this.

I feel as though I should also mention that apart from the six women he killed Christie also murdered a toddler named Geraldine Evans and as a result of all this an innocent man [Timothy Evans] was executed. Evans was later given a pardon - a bit late maybe. All because of a police cover up. They made witnesses change their statements to fit with their treachery. Same as the Bently case. This is my one big argument against hanging but my only one.

Christie was hanged by Albert Pierrpoint on 15th.July 1953 .

I must mention my granddaughter Danielle who helped me with the vocal chorus on this piece and so I'd like to say a big thank you to her.
Lyrics brown shoes by woofer3

Verse 1.
Looking so respectable in clerical grey-
He's the one you would never suspect.
The Nottinghill killer is out for the day-
So you'd better show a healthy respect,

Chorus
He wears brown shoes, black tie-
Sharp crease, steps high,
He could never be a meanie-
Must have been an Ovalteenie.
Brown shoes make it, brown shoes make it.
Brown shoes make it, brown shoes make it.

verse 2.
He's a gasser that's a fact, Mr.Reginald John-
He don't wanna be a killer but his marbles are gone,
He's got a problem with Ethel, cos she knows what he's done.
Tho he always tries to tell her it was only in fun,

Repeat Chorus

Break as verse

Repeat Chorus.

verse 3.
Ruth,Muriel,Ethel,Rita,Kathleen and Hectorina,
All had been part of the plan,
He took them back to number 10, they were never seen again-
Ans nobody much gave a damn.

Chorus.

Now this
sounds like a lot of fun. You certainly have the Jerry Lee thing going full steam. I love your voice and it sounds great on this type of old rock and roll sounding song.
Thanks woofer

my pal Feter-
no it was definately 94, but this was only recorded within the last five years, - one of those songs I keep re inventing, though I'm reasonably happy with it now.

Another Classic
Only you could write a song about Christie. I always think of him as Dickie Attenborough.
This, John, is a wonderful song.
Cheers
Len

I don't think -
I'm ever gonna make the charts with songs like these though. Great film 10, Rillington Place. I've also read the book . Creepy evil little man.

Thanks for your comments Len,

John

Criminals Rock!
Once again woofer3 goes for the criminal mind to mine rock and roll gold. Great vocal and piano.

Another great song. Is this the guy who killed people and then had them stuffed underneath his house?

Background Vocals
I forgot to mention the background vocals and how good they were. A clever counterpoint to the seriousness of the subject's crimes.

I also love the "He wears brown shoes, black tie, sharp crease" line. That's a real Rock and Roll kind of line. Perfect.

woofer3 said 313 days ago
yes Tim
this is the same one. Another fact about the case is that an innocent man was hanged for two of the crimes just a few years before they arrested Christie. I'm surprised you kmew about this in America. They made a film about it in 1970.

Thanks for listening,

John.
