Description Dedicated to the American Soldiers that gave their life for our country.
I am not a big Bush fan, but I have to pay as much homage to those that died doing heroic deed in Iraq. Could even be a soldier lifting one to safety on to a helicopter. So varied so dedicated, one that I hope we pay tribute to whether we are for this war or not.

awesome!
amazing and inspired fretwork and well though out compostion.

I can only imaging how tough those callouses on the finger tips must be. :-)

Thanks for sharing your music as well!

Great Work!!!...
Both a beautiful and skilled touch, outstanding composing too, and great knowledge of the fretboard, this is what I think of what I have heard, but the player keeps freezing!!!

Heard the whole thing,...
Sometimes I feel you have at moments a connection with Manuel De falla, and Rodrigo.

thetiler said 286 days ago

ean, I have studied some of Rodrigo's concertos for years and in my opinion they are among some of the very best concertos written. To even mention Rodrigos name in your post is a great honor indeed!

Thanks

Your playing is outstandingly virtuosic and you succeed in captivating the listener from the first second.

Amazing even without the other instruments
but they all add to the depth of this piece. The chorus gives it such a personal touch. you play so skillfully, Bill, that it's like you don't even have to think about what your fingers are doing, which allows all the emotions to get through. This should be a soundtrack. Amazing guitar work here, and a wonderful tribute to the men and women soldiers.

Thanks so much for the sweet quote above, I especially am very appreciative about the soundtrack idea. That would indeed be a great honor to do a soundtrack and is truly one of my dreams to do.

Thanks again Roxy and for all the music you have posted that I've heard and appreciated.

This yet another outstanding piece that you've composed and played. Not only fantastic guitar, but the sympathetic orchestral accompaniment too is wonderful. As Roxie says, it's as though your fingers just seem to wander over the fretboard automatically.... it's as though the guitar is an extension of your body you know it so well..... wonderfully dramatic music, regards M

Movis
I appreciate yourself stopping by. I sure enjoy listening to your tunes.
I really do appreciate your comment in regards to "sympathetic orchestral accompaniment". I am almost embarrassed how much time I tweaked the orchestration. With logic it is really amazing how powerful that application is.

Bill You're an outstanding musician
such seasoned movements and technical excellence... I don't see how it can get better than this... your guitar recordings also sound so perfect... this is how acoustic guitar is supposed to sound and be played

Wow - you've got CHOPS (but I'm sure you already know that!) What control you've got up and down the frets. I love how you've arranged this - it's just simply superb - thanks!

coming from one of the very best
pianist here at MJ I am very thankful. I am mesmerized by your fantastic, optimistic melodies and orchestration that you do. Some of the best i have heard here at MJ. thanks for the arrangement quote. I really do appreciate that Magnatone!

Sounds great.... The playing is so perfectly... And i like when the strings comes in... It's relaxing to listen to...

This simply sounds amazingly.... Glad i stopped by this song.... Gonna hear more of your songs, tonight....

thetiler said 286 days ago
Thanks so much
much Lightman for your quote about the string. I can't tell you how much time I put into trying to get the strings just right, especially the cello sounds and bass mixture.

Thanks

Enjoy your fantastic singing style as well. All who have not heard Lighmans enchanting, emotional melodies is really missing something if they have not heard him.

Amazing!
I absolutely love the guitar work here. It's just my opinion, but sometimes the orchestral accompaniment is slightly distracting. In the middle section there are a few instruments that come in and out that are not heard in other parts of the piece making it seem a little random/fragmented. The other parts (strings especially) are great though and really enhance the guitar playing! Overall a moving piece and a wonderful tribute.

Karmatoburn said 286 days ago
moving
tribute. I just finished watching a frontline documentary 'rules of engagement' and it moved me greatly. As well, I drive by a sign everyday that says "we support our troops" and I've always felt thats a little like saying "i like to breath air" :-) You said it best, and your fine comp here displays just that homage.

ps: I always here such varied influences in your playing! wonderful

thetiler said 286 days ago
Thanks
Karmatoburn.

I was in a war zone myself and I appreciate how scary it can be when you are near a bomb. I was close enough that I was knocked off my bed when sleeping and heard the fearful whistle of it coming in. I was close enough for me to not ever want to hear that again. And If we don't protect or country who will?

So I do honor those that went into a combat zone and died, but I think there are some brave soldiers that really have taken heroism to another level. That is soldiers that try to lift another to safety while knowing that both may or may not make it up the lifeline to a hovering helicopter, while blinding dust is in their eyes, risking the possibility of getting killed or wounded. I am sure there are many incredible stories that we never hear of but are true never the less.

Thanks for the compliment

Wonderful peice! I just love your guitar work. you are a real fingerman. Beauty and emotion all in one peice. This inspires me to start finger pickin' again.
Really solid, and Amen on the theme.

Very Cool
Love the rapidly moving lines but also the dynamics that make them even more memorable. More and more it seems as though you are creating sound sculptures as much as composing music!

Lennon714 said 284 days ago
wow.
It's playing like this that makes me ashamed to say I play guitar. But it's great to listen to someone with such command of their instrument. A real treat. That section from 1:02 to 1:10 or so is great!

apb said 283 days ago
Beautiful ..

.. and brilliant performance and recording. I hear touches of classical gas, pinball wizard and 'Black star' by Yngwie (the harmonic parts), to my untrained ears.. quite a variety and blend and lots of Bill too :o)

Excellent piece, arrangement is sweet (flows well between sections).

Fitting tribute to the far too many good soldiers the
USA has lost.

aclarke said 283 days ago
Well done!
Bill- I'm always glad that some folks can keep things in proper perspective. It's easy to make war all about politics and just as easy to sometimes forget that the people doing the actual fighting are merely doing their jobs. This is a fitting tribute.

Guitar picking was masterful, as always. I do want to compliment you on the synth sounds... very well used. It was like riding a wave, gently gaining momentum and strength before crashing down on the shore.

thetiler said 282 days ago
Thanks for the compliment on the
synth sounds. I spent tons of times tweaking it and am glad you liked that portion of it as well.

...in this dedication (and I'm no Bush fan, either)...wonderful music...serious sentiment...

jiguma said 282 days ago
Expansive concept Bill
There's so much going on in here Bill - I think apb's comment most closely mirrors my feelings.

Classy playing as usual, but taken just that little bit further with both the ideas behind the piece, and the attention to detail in the mixing.

Thanks,
Neil

thetiler said 281 days ago
Thanks Jig
Ya, i spent a lot of time I thought in trying to get instrumentation in both the right and left year of my headset when listening. It is sure an undertaking when doing an orchestral project. But I really love doing orchestral with fingerstyle guitar. It makes if kinda of fun when there is a lot of movement going on with the guitar.

Amazing song... amazing instrument skills... really gets us emotional! the guitar is amazing... loved the final part (whole last minute of the song), doing the harmonics on the guitar. Amazing!

TobinMueller said 281 days ago
A marvel
Fabulous. Great playing and wonderful arrangement. there a a handful of spots when the backing instruments sound a bit like a demo instead of a flawless final cut, but the overall emotion is overwhelming. A marvel. Thanks for working on these pieces so hard.

Brian Weiland said 280 days ago
Just gorgeous!
A beautiful rich poignant composition that absolutely does justice to the deep emotions called up by your inspiration. I agree with Roxylee that this would be brilliant as a soundtrack. Also, the sound of your guitar is clear but rich, and devastatingly beautiful. I am sure that mostly has to do with your playing, but your recording technique is also clearly top-notch.

said 269 days ago
WOW!
I feel that it's just a 2nd song from the suite of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home". It's completing this piece and fits very much. KUDOS for the work, just another masterpiece.
