Had a head like a boulder. Stood ten foot, I swear!
He came down off the mountain, must have been early June
I'd planted the cotton 'neath the light of the moon

The horses got nervous as he stunk up the farm
Ol' Boots got to hollerin' then he took for the barn
I grabbed my rifle, and prepared for the hunt
And I whispered to the Almighty "You can come if you want

I crept 'cross the meadow 'neath that big yellow moon
I had no trouble seein', it was bright as high noon
All the crickets were speechless. I didn't hear a peep
And I followed their example and silenced my feet

I could tell you I'm fearless, and what I did was so brave.
Well maybe David and Goliath were prepared for the grave,
But my bones were tremblin' like the tracks 'neath a train
That had lost it's sole brakeman down a mountain of pain

There are things in this world that we can't overcome
It' a shame we don't know 'em till we've lost or till we've won
But I tracked down that varmit and I blowed off his head
And life' a little easier now. I thank God he's dead

I built this here homestead, and I pray I'll get old
But there's times when this old cabin here just won't fight the cold

	really good! right then. 8) this sounds ultra good - EXcellent strong and sure vocal with a great storytelling attitude. the last line of the wonderful lyric wrapped it all up so very nicely. i like the simple but effective guitar - it worked a treat. what's going on with the panning? flanging? a teensy bit distracting - but shoot fire, this is a Swell Song, nonetheless. enjoyed! anne

	Wonderful.... Whoa, am I really enjoying this song. What a fresh and appealing guitar/vocal performance, DA! Your talent shines so clearly here... just you and the guitar up on that stage alone :). 	Excellent This is a great song. Your vocal is terrific on this, and the words are excellent. I was totally drawn in. Some really memorable lines ("I whispered to the Almighty "you can come if you want" - love that). The guitar playing is good, and it sounds good. What effect do you have on there that's making it wander across my headphones? Either way, great track. Nicely done. Peace.

I liked this ...
... it sort of reminded me of my younger years ... listening to Gordon Lightfoot ... found myself humming along .. that's a good sign! I was trying to figure out how you got that great natural stereo sound on your vocals ... and then I heard them panning slightly from left to right and back again .... not even sure how I noticed that .. but I like the effect - gave it ambience.

	Thank you Anne Yes, I'm afraid the panning and flanging were a result of basic insecurities. This song was put on a demo I've been floating around for gigs, and I guess I was just trying some reckless embellishments. I'm glad it survived and was still enjoyable. Thanks again.

	Thanks for listening Dave I was lucky to make it back alive from this journey. I've only skinned one bear in my life. Back when I was 7 years old. The bear's name was Teddy, and it made a nice hat. I guess the song helped me relive those fantasies.
