Description This has been kicking around this week and I tried some vocals that I hated so I stripped them off leaving little in the way of a lead in the beginning. I considered scrapping it - but what the hell it's only ones and zeros. The lead at the end is my first experiment with the Line 6 Toneport that just arrived.

BTW - I was too lazy to put my parakeets away when I recorded the acoustic - so that's what you're hearing in the background. They love to sing along.
Hardware iMac G5, Line6 Toneport GX, Martin D18, Danelectro DC59, Oxygen8 Keyboard for bass and electric piano
Software: GB3, DOD drums

Good that you didn't scrap it
Cool, mellow vibe. Nice changes. Would be curios to here the singing on this. Kinda' a CSN&Y thing. I could hear harmonies and such.
Good one Bud.
Dave

bud said 342 days ago
Thanks David
Nice of you to stop by. I went kinda dark with the lyrics based on the dissonant E chord in the chorus. Maybe give it another shot.

said 342 days ago
nice parakeets!
J/K, I didn't even notice

Really clean sound on this track, I like the laid back feel a lot.

. - Harold

bud said 342 days ago
The birds are anything but laid back
they're crazy. Thanks for the kind words.

Feter said 342 days ago
Darkness Till Dawn
its amazing heavenly sound with the parakeet !!
this is totatly a real groovey ..specialy when
the guitar lead his ..that cool man ..just superb
I love it ...thnx for sharin !!!!!!

bud said 342 days ago
Ah man Feter
you're like Superfan. Glad you liked it. Your big collab "Rain" was a blast.

said 342 days ago
I like...
the atypical acoustic work on this...good going !

the parakeets actually work...I hope the royalties get to them somehow...lol

bud said 342 days ago
They work for stems and seeds
is the acoustic atypical of me - or plain atypical?

michael2 said 342 days ago
sweet
i like that one. if i get a chance i'm going to try and put something over this (although i won't be doing any recording until next week). i just did something that i hated my vox on too. must be something in the air. this is really nice tho, love the chord changes and the sound of the guitar. and i must say, nice soloing. parakeets added to it IMHO.

bud said 342 days ago
I'll tell the keets - it'll make them happy
Love to hear what you might do here - if you want the GB file it's all yours.

michael2 said 342 days ago
oh yeah
definitely send it my way. can you sendspace it and send me a link?

Vic Holman said 342 days ago
parakeets in the mist
smooth and some CSNY here as dave pointed out. I think it was the steven stills type of lead that nails it. which is great!

Now when i sing my cat joins in, sad i know. I've had to do over quite a few vocal tracks.

the line 6 has a nice crunch tone for the lead on this. I dig it.

bud said 341 days ago
Let us hear your cat
c'mon Vic - share the limelight. The Line 6 is pretty cool. I've been using a $29 Griffin iMic interface till now.

davisamerica said 342 days ago
right then
there u go bud... very laid back cool... very nice chord changes man.. wow... i wish i could remember my name

bud said 341 days ago
Nice Crosby reference
one of my favorite albums from the era

said 342 days ago
Mellow? Maybe...
but this packs a punch, especially in the chorus. Clean, clear sound, too. This needs an edgy vocal for sure; I'm not sure why, but I hear a gospel quartet circa 1957 (definitely NOT gentle CSNY) singing this.

bud said 341 days ago
I love the gospel quartet idea
where do i get one? Thanks for dropping by and digging the edge.

Bad Smells said 342 days ago
whose a pretty boy then?
on first listen after reading your description I found myself wanting to hear a vocal melody....but on second listen I just enjoyed it for what it is...
especially the first change where the birds seem to magically transform into rattle snakes......very mellow....enjoyed it a lot........mellow/dark
nice guitar tones.

bud said 341 days ago
Nice of you to drop by
I added a rainstick to the chorus that blended in with the birds. Also when they hear dissonance they switch from tweating to chittering - much more percussive. I also doubled the guitar/bird track and offset them slightly for a 12 string effect - making their chatter that much crazier.

rsorensen said 342 days ago
smoooooth
wow this is a great mix. quite sonically pleasing. the touch of darkness in the breaks is really cool too. great track, bud. faved

bud said 341 days ago
Much appreciated
Glad you stopped by for a listen.

Ejh said 342 days ago
First of all, I love this...
I just love the lazy groove, the parakeets, the acoustic sound, the bass, and the rough lead toward the end...

And then, speaking as a guy with an iMac G5 who just got his GearBox Silver package two days ago and is still trying to make the ToneDirect thing work, this gives me hope... (The stuff works as plug-ins...I think...but so far I can't get any sound going directly through the GearBox program alone...)

Wish I could vote on it... But I will gratefully assign it a place of honor in some playlist or other...

You know, it's the RIGHT ones and zeroes...

Ed

bud said 341 days ago
Thanks Ed
your comments mean a lot to me. I'm happy to help you out with the toneport issue if you're still having trouble.

said 342 days ago
Captivating
It swings, The off colour lead lends itself to an other worldly state, Dont know if any of my comments i have been making latley make any sense lately! very cool,.... this is, its pulling me to the left and then to the right off balance! Thanks!

bud said 341 days ago
Clear as day Tim
Thanks!

echoroom said 342 days ago
The birds!
The parakeets really work - i'll have to get some. Tis has a lovely lazy feel, but the chorus change has some real bite and edge to it. Lovely mix on this too. If you ever want some one elses vox on this, gimme a shout. I've a load of stuff to work on (including the Berlin Years) but this would sneak to the top of the pile ...

bud said 341 days ago
Thanks Steve - glad you stopped by
I'm trying to get the file to a sendable size. Beats me why - but it's 1.15 Gig at the moment and Pando only lets me post 1 Gig. M2 expressed interest as well. I'll post a link when I get it sorted out. Can't wait to hear Berlin.

echoroom said 341 days ago
Thanks man
Looking forward to it!

Joe Brady said 341 days ago
Great acoustic sound!
real nice sound-bed; acoustic guitar is a pleasurable listen; whatever you're doing there you should keep that in your library.

Joe

bud said 341 days ago
I appreciate the support Joe
I've had the chorus sound of this thing floating around in my playing for at least ten years - glad to finally do something with it.

Karmatoburn said 341 days ago
birdland
if you hadn't mentioned your ambient recording technique i was thinking, wow, the birds are cool. they're still great as they add another texture to the chorus. the tension on the E chord is also sweet. sort of adds a zeppelin or jeff buckley vibe to the track. would love to hear the vocal version. bring it on!

bud said 341 days ago
I'm just happy this doesn't suck
I really had my doubts about it. I was sick last week when I did this - and it wasn't a flow thing - if you know what I mean. I think the birds got it done.

moorlandt said 341 days ago
very curious
...to hear how this will turn out with the vocals. The chorus is a stubborn fellow... won't be an easy job. Very great feeling overall and a sweet production quality.
-Walt

bud said 341 days ago
The chorus is stubborn
you're right about that. I'm looking forward to it's next life as well. Thanks for stopping by - "River" is fantastic.

guitapick said 341 days ago
Cool instrumental...
...love the sound of that Danelectro...isn't electricity an amazing phenomena?

bud said 341 days ago
Thanks Bob
I love my Danelectro. It's cheap, but it's worth it.

lengold said 341 days ago
Really great
sound Bud - production is awesome. Will have to look into Line 6 - lovely tone.
Cheers
Len

bud said 341 days ago
Hi Len - thanks for dropping by
I bought the cheapest Toneport - the GX for about $70 from Zzounds. It seems to be a decent interface - and then you get all the great amp modeling and effects. A good deal.

Peter Bauckham said 341 days ago
That
Line 6 solo sounds great. Really good tune - I rather like all the extraneous noises (I normally only get road noise, sawing or drilling). Would be even better with some singing! Nice clean production.

Peter

bud said 341 days ago
Hey Peter - thanks for stopping by
glad you enjoyed my feathered friends - they love music and are very stubborn to boot. I'm looking forward to getting some time to play with the new toy and see what it brings.

willnlf said 341 days ago
Yeah,
the David Crosby album out on the old dude's farm east of Millersburg circa 197_? Nice groove with some good surprises throughout. Liked the lead at end.

bud said 340 days ago
That old dude's name was Art Dressler
Don't ask me how I remembered that.

It'd be a good soundtrack.
especially where it drops into the discordant passages

Lovely production and the birds actually work very well.

Cheers

bud said 339 days ago
Don't mention the word work
or I'm gonna have to pay the birds royalties. Cheers Dick.

parakeets
what brand?.......nice groovin feel.....perfect for a sunday drive......into my ambient playlist it goes.......kool.....

bud said 339 days ago
Didn't know there were brands
could be mini moogs I guess. Hope you had a nice ride - thanks for dropping in.

said 340 days ago
nicey
tiny birds make for great atmosphere..
this is great mixing and production. production is something that does not get enough attention around here.... heh...liked the break around 1:05 with the bongo hit(?), it added a zep feel to the tune and spiced it up nicely. i hear vocals. moody, smooth rock vocals. the electric lends itself nicely. how bout them line 6 tones? nice....
Allen

bud said 339 days ago
The Line 6 is cool
Thanks for dropping by and commenting - I really respect work chops.

said 340 days ago
it's REALLY good
oooooo - i love the lazy, sexily confident groove - it has a beautiful thoughtful quality to it.
i really enjoyed hearing it build, ebb and flow, branch out and soar.

that change could NOT have been more opposite the starting groove in mood - cool call.

excellent blend of soft and hard/slanty and sweet.
good choice to fade there.
SIR BUD, I SALUTE YOUR SONG!!
sis

bud said 339 days ago
Lazy I can see
but sexy and confident - gee thanks. Seriously - I really appreciate your comments. It's real nice of you to drop by.

thetiler said 340 days ago
A cool
bounce to to.

Ha I was wondering about the sound in the backround. It sounds the birds are really groovin to your tune. I can seem em rocking back and forth in unision, doing a cool dance:)

This is very infectious, especially the end were it fades out quite nicely.

Way to go!

bud said 339 days ago
Thanks Tiler
the birds are a lot of fun to have around. Never thought I'd have them - then my daughter just showed up with them.

Cool stuff
Cool stuff and I personally love the birds. They did that in one take? Talent, talent, talent!

bud said 336 days ago
That's it -
the birds are invited to all my sessions from now on. Nice of you to drop by.

kristyjo said 336 days ago
Keets rule!
Actually, You could add some more sounds of rain on leaves, more birds and jackal calls to solidly pull this into 'music heard at an exclusive rainforest resort' territory. Nice.

bud said 332 days ago
If I do the music
do I get to stay there? Thanks Kristyjo.

said 332 days ago
Sweetly Surreal
...the parakeets have got to stay. They add such gentle bursts of frantic craziness that just sets off the whole thing.

Beautiful, loping feel that seems relaxed but belies a real haunting tension somewhere. This one's a gem!

bud said 332 days ago
Thanks Rik -
The parakeets are on the buss - there with the band - they've got their own groupies. Glad you stopped by.

Blown away
when that lead guitar solo hit me....

Nice feeling right from the opening note.

You really built a pocket here with the perfect tempo and that electric solo fit in the pocket just like I remember my first girlfriend's hand as it slid into the pocket of my jeans.

bud said 332 days ago
Nice of you to stop by
now about your girlfriend's hand...
