Description Another Garageband demo. The outro was going to be a big epic-like thing based on that last riff, but I couldn't work it out. Maybe I'll try again next time.

BTW - I posted this earlier tonight but deleted it by accident. Sorry to those that commented :(
Lyrics There is nothing left to say
I need to get out of your way
If life is only what we make of it
Then you've got lots of it to make

You have nothing left to give
And you deserve better than this
But now there's nothing I can do for you
That won't make our lives hard to live

And I remember everything that we went through
And I remember everything I promised you
But time's caught up with me and taken that away
I'll never be with you again

You're so far away from me
There's nothing left that I can do
So I will hope and I will pray
That time will take good care of you

And I remember everything that we went through
Yes I remember all the things I promised you
But now I've gone and put those promises aside
I'll always love you, friend
Goodbye

Hey
Excellent song and excellent vocal. Don't take this as a negative but, I'd like to hear what the bright side sounds like someday.

rsorensen said 308 days ago
hah
thanks. i love my life, really! it's just easier to write about the dark side ;)

This is excellent
Very nice sound, first of all. I'm jealous of your voice, absolutely great and sincere. I like the theme. Thw world always needs songs like these.
Great job. Really impressed.
Dave

This is brilliant!
You have got talent man! great playing, singing, and the production on this is spot on too. Well done!

thanks
Truth be told it took long time to get the mix where I wanted it, and it's still not quite there, but I'm seldomly happy with my own mixes. This'll have to do until I can get it in the studio and let a mixmaster take over.

thanks for the comment!

This is
a really lovely song and I am very impressed also with the musicianship and production. Great vocals too. A lovely listen. Thanks to Dave for the pointer.
Cheers

Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. It's my first real 'ballad' (if you can call it that) and I must say it was hard not to break out the heavy distortion in the choruses, but I'm glad I resisted.

TheECMillionaire said 305 days ago
Not sure
I know what you mean about keeping things quiet in the choruses. But for this song, I think breaking out into a heavier (but not too heavy) chorus could work well also. It's hard to say, whatever overall feel you want to go with I suppose. Nonetheless, very well done. Your musicianship and attention to detail impresses me yet again.

:)
Thanks for the input. I definitely hear you. This song is part of a semi-concept record. It's going to be the last song on a record full of pretty big choruses (see gone, inside your skin, sp-17 etc.) so I made a conscious effort to keep it more subdued. Originally it was going to have a huge, epic, climactic heavy ending but after I tried it, it just didn't sound right. That said, who knows what might happen when I get it into the studio. Thanks for listening!

Great Singing.
This is a good song and the vocals are really good. Cello sounds cool. I think it might sound even better if you created a harmony on the "..agaaiin" and "...goodbyyyye" line to make them jump out even more. You can definitely sing, and a choral of you harmonizing with yourself could sound awesome. Even a judicious use of doubletracking elsewhere in the song might work. But maybe due to the feel of the song you wanted it to be a more of a lone voice? Also, what is real instrumentation and what is software/loops? Drums?

rsorensen said 307 days ago
:)
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. I definitely thought about harmonies, and I usually do add some BG vox in my songs, but you nailed it when you suggested I wanted it to be a 'lone' voice. That said, when I take it into the studio I may try it out anyway.
All the guitars are real and run through my POD XT Live with various patches. The solo is my KeyStudio with the GarageBand 'Synchro Nice' patch, and the piano is the 'Grand Piano' patch. There's also a synth line in the chorus which is the 'Ominous Dancefloor' patch with some equalization changes. The drums are one of the 'Modern Rock' GB loops, but colored with kick, snare and cymbal fills here and there I did with my keyboard. Thanks again!

Good vocal
and your background style fits quite nicely with the singing.
NICe high vocal as well.

Enjoyed the two different guitar accompaniment as well.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks a lot for listening and commenting. I had originally played a different guitar part for the right channel, but when I played it back they totally clashed. It's funny how some things can sound decent live but when you record them together and play them back, not so much!

Great tune - glad I stopped by
thanks lava's plug - well worth the trip. Everything here is solid and in the pocket. Good voice - writing - playing - production. I like the tempered dissonance and the peripherals. Excellent.

rsorensen said 307 days ago
yes!
lava's my hero! Thanks for stopping by! I really enjoy your stuff too and need to dig a little deeper into your huge collection of jams!

Darn, now you made me almost cry...
This is so emotional... dripping with sadness and longing... this can be a song you can dedicate to a loved one or friend who is leaving or dying... this one really pierces the heart, and I rarely say that about sad songs.

Your voice is perfect for this song...

rsorensen said 307 days ago
don't cry!
Thanks for listening! It's really cool to me that this song moved you the way it did. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it.

paddler said 307 days ago
Great voice
It reminds me of a cross between Lynyrd Skynyrd/r.e.m - emotional but rocky.Sorry to draw comparisons but I do!
Richard

thanks a lot
I don't mind comparisons at all, especially ones to Skynrd!

yep
I accidently deleted it the first time I put it up :(
but thanks so much for listening and commenting again!

classic
& faultless. the "cello" crescendo works well, I think, as well as the thinned-out ominous dancefloor break.

rsorensen said 306 days ago
:)
thanks. i'm loving my new keyboard with GB. there's a lot of supercool synth sounds in there. thanks for listening.
