Description This song is something that I have played live before, but it was more of a loud shoe-gaze sort of thing (think Ride); i couldn't figure out how to get the Keith Moon style drums I wanted, so I ended up turning it into an 80's pop song. If I can get figure out the drumming, I will probably post this again as a feedback soaked fuzz pop type of thing.

I'm Just Fine
I found this a cool tune ..nice singing my friend ..
hmm Keith need hard drivin guitars ..so I can see
how this might turn into fire when you applied that
live drummin .still this one is a nice song ...!!
thnx for sharin ! !

michael2 said 309 days ago
glad you like
Feter. i will be trying another version (since I like the chorus) of this one. thanks so much for listening.

aclarke said 310 days ago
Oh yeah
Definite 80's pop hear. The John Hughes film reference was too funny. Ironic too, as I've been teaching myself to play "Pretty in Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs (a great band) before everyone found out about them thanks in large part to john Hughes. But I digress... a lot!

Real pleasant vocal and perfect for the song the way you've done it here. You change this up with Moon style drums and I still like the song, but in a different way, you understand ;)

I like it. I like it a lot!

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks
i love the Furs, I think they were great up until Mirror Moves. I was surprised that this one turned out okay with this arrangement' it was more an experiment than anything; glad you liked and glad you stopped by. thanks.

echoroom said 310 days ago
80s stylee
Hey Michael - this is ace, a real 80's style track - this has a really nice, sweet feel to it (the synths do that, i think, and your voice). I was listening to mirror Moves by the Furs yesterday - this has that Keith Forsey style production. Nice track.... almost a kinda synthy Mary Chain track.

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks steve
thanks for stopping by. i think it's the FM synth bells that really give it that 80's sound. the J&MC reference is cool, maybe i'll do a fuzzy post punk version (just for kicks). thanks again for stopping by.

lavalamp said 310 days ago
I like this
I can relate. The song I just posted, at least the last part, was compromised. I played it totally different live than now. But, I liked what you've done with this. AClark was dead on, I could hear this in Breakfast Club. Not a put down, a compliment.

I would be very interested in hearing a rocked out Who version, though.

Dave

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks lavalamp
i got no probs with the breakfast club. glad you liked, now i'm thinking of doing a country version.

Excellent
YA know where I live WMNF in tampa is having 80s week and this just topped it off for me! Your voice on this is captivating! Straight to the ipod!

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks egobandit
wasn't ever supposed to sound like this, but it was a fun experiment. glad you liked how it turned out.

Vic Holman said 310 days ago
hey you in parachute pants
riding a new wave. sounds really great Michael. has a lot of good sounds. great synth sounds and the drum actually fits the style. Did I mention anything about velvet yet? No? Can't it wasn't in style for the new wave set.

Excellent piece totally enjoyed it. very polished

michael2 said 309 days ago
no velvet
this time. just big shoulder pads, pleated pants and bi-level haircuts. at the time i avoided all of this type of music, but now i find myself really enjoying it when i hear it. still need to do this as a rock number. thanks for listening.

spitlogic said 310 days ago
Is it just me?
or does it seem to be an increase in the 80's retro thing. This is definately from that time (meaning the sound). I wonder why it seems most songs do come with as much hope as they did back then (maybe Im just rambling).

Anyway I think you did a pretty good job with this. The style is definitely reminds me of my childhood (wow, Im old).

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks spitlogic
it's wierd, my neighborhood has become quite the hipster haven. it's all 80's kids and gang members now. they make me fell really old (the 80's kids that is). thanks for listening.

Ultravox!
I just d/l'd a bunch of long-lost synth stuff (Midge Ure, Blancmange "Living On The Ceiling" et al) cause I was on a nostalgia trip. This fits....

It's a cool song (great performance on everything), but now that THAT'S out of the way, I think I'll prefer the live, feedback-soaked version... Really well done, though.
Best,

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks Sonny Jim
glad you liked. you know i just went through a Visage phase not too long ago. that first record is amazing. stay tuned for a different version of this one.

Lennon714 said 309 days ago
well done
This is a great track. Definitely a favorite of things you've done. I hear what you mean about the other direction with Keith Moon drums. The drummer for my band is crazy talented and I'm so used to saying, "can you put a Keith Moon fill at the end of each progression" and he does it perfectly. Programming MIDI drums and/or finding the right loops is a pain in the ass. With that said, I think what you've got here is perfect enough for me to get all self conscious about what I'm working on!

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks lennon714
glad you liked this one. you're stoked to have a real drummer at your disposal. i have a guy I love, but with a kid and a job, our schedules just never seem to match up. it's a shame he's so computer illiterate or i'd drop my laptop off with him for a week or so. thanks for listening and for your kind words.

I'm Just Fine
Reminds me of the eighties for some reason or another... Cool melody & vocals!!!!! This could fire up in another direction with hot lead guitar... you have a broad scope with your writing & melodies. Another fine tune!!!!!!!!!!

Have a super week,
Wade

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks Wade
i guess you could say I have a broad scope, or maybe i have no direction. i'm just more curious than anything. thanks so much for listening to this one, i appreciate the comment. always nice to hear from you.

cjdaley said 309 days ago
plenty of things
I like in here:the drum machine, this cool setting on the alpha3 I'd use on any song, the ah ah ah that's reminds me of the Jesus and Mary chain, the chorus and well... I like everything, actually.

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks cjdaley
glad you approve. that free alpha synth is really cool, i recommend it. i used to use Crystal (which is the best ever), but when i upgraded my OS it stopped working (just as i was starting to get a grip on the thing too). thanks a bunch for listening.

dajama said 309 days ago
Very cool song
however you approach it, I think. This style works perfectly for me. The sounds are great, and your vocal works very well here. I love the drums - it does have that retro thing going on - and I think the feel of the synth sounds is excellent. Nice one. I'm not sure how you could improve on this with a different style, but having said that, I'd be very interested to hear it! Nice work. Peace.

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks Dajama
glad you like. i like this version, but i'm so used to hearing it in my head the "indie fuzz pop" way, that i'm still tripping on this version. i am pleased with that bell sound though. the melody it plays is what i usually did chord wise, in a alternate tuning. the weird part for this song now, is i wrote it with an off rhythm pattern and this is very 4/4 straight ahead now. that's why i gave up on the trying to program a different drum pattern. just don't have the skills. thanks again for your kind words and for listening.

mccannmp1 said 309 days ago
Good One
I've always embraced 80's Pop (all the while getting ridiculed by my metal buddies) so I enjoyed this a lot...I think you're right about the bells

excellent production!

Mike

michael2 said 309 days ago
thanks
glad you liked. this was a fun little diversion for me.

estellie said 308 days ago
worthwhile experiment
Really showcases your voice. I like the backing vocals and really all your vocal work here. Bittersweet.

The song is a great mix to my ears. "80's" in a timeless way, if that makes sense. Doesn't sound dated.

(Wouldn't mind reading the lyrics)

bud said 307 days ago
You have the JAMC oh - ho ohs going on
love shoe synth gaze pop mix. It's the insistent bass that really puts this in place. BTW - watch the mail - I'm sending those drums you need.

buckhorn said 306 days ago
Hey Michael
Didn't the "Psych Furs" do pretty in pink. I like to Fx on your voice here. To me the production fits the tune perfectly, but what do I know. Latter

rsorensen said 306 days ago
nice one!
You definitely captured the 80s in this one. Not many artists can do that right these days so kudos.
Would LOVE to hear the "feedback soaked fuzz pop" version!!

jum jum!
Sexy and dangerous! And still a bit sad. I dig this path you took a lot. JUM JUM! Friggin melancholic, sexy and overall good produced music (love the bass line, gives it that je ne sais quo, early depeche mode i guess (when they had that dude from erasure around).

Jop, a true fav and downloaded. I think I am going to enjoy this one a lot (when i am in the above moods...sigh:-/.....;-))
Love to you and the family (as always)
Marc

80s pop song...
...it is...and rolls around in my mind quite nicely.

You work this genre really well, michael. Somehow my body and mind survived the '80s (no fear for my spirit...that's for sure) and this is a very pleasant reminder of the times. Thanks.

thetiler said 305 days ago
This has
a nice beginning, which is great for the listener to sink into the tune.
Nice backround as the tune continues, lush synth. Enjoyed the singing as well.
Interesting words.

Nice backup singing in the parts were added. Cool bass thumpin!
Thanks for sharing!

Dig it.
I dig the techno nature of the track. It's a good tune, so it will probably work with any arrangement. How about a reggae-polka-punk-square dance kind of a thing...?
I'm only here to help...

Yes!!
Awesome song.
I am thinking Sixteen Candles rather than the Breakfast Club. Viva La Thompson Twins!!

Diviner said 304 days ago
Lovely track
A very nice track, it does remind me of some of the better tracks of the 80's, but with an up to date touch. The lyrics are really good and so well sung. I am very impressed.

jiguma said 303 days ago
Love the delivery
Good song Michael - very Beatlish (what's new?), but a more modern touch with the synths of course. Like it a lot.

Cool
Very calm and relaxing tune bravo.

tjayswift said 300 days ago
yes!
smooth. vibrant. pleasant with a touch of darkness. totally engaging. This track really has a great feel and mood. Nice job of restraint with the instrumentation- I'd have been far too tempted to wash it all out. That definitely shows maturity and experience.

Oddly enough, I can totally hear this song the other way that you describe. Can't wait to hear it that way, too!

Fab drummer was auld Keith - love your voice on this choon - kinda vulnerable and cavalier, great wee understated hook n'all Michael- digging your vibe.

this song isn't what you originally intended, it came out mighty fine!
