Description Our dog, Breeze is very ill and in hospital - she is nearly 13 years old.
This song started off life as a song for her called 'Breezie Gold', but turned into a general song about growing old and how crap it is.
Lyrics
Growing Old
Nobody Said It Would be This Hard
Maybe My Ears Closed
It Happened I Dozed
The Jokes on Me
The Jokes on You

Getting Old
I'm So Tired all The Time You Know
I Want to Shout Out
Not be Full of Doubt
The Jokes on Me
The Jokes on You

Growing Old
I'm Nearly Cold
Getting Old
My Story's Told
Getting Old
I'm Not so Bold

Getting Old
Looking Forward to Dementia
What is My Name Dear
You Know I'm Not so Clear
The Jokes on Me
The Jokes on You
The Jokes on Us

Growing Old
I'm Nearly Cold
Getting Old
My Story's Told

That's
a nice dog.I've lost a couple of dogs to cancer in the last 10 yrs. Both were goldens that lived to be only 7.(The one in the picture is our 3rd one)Sorry to hear about your dog.The song is great- done in the unique Lengold style.

lengold said 317 days ago
Thanks as always
Mark, glad you liked it. It's a worrying time at the moment - dreading the phone ringing.

nice
it has alot of layers. i like that in a song. just when you think you got the scheme, it throws in some other element that keeps you listeneing.... nice track, Len...

Sorry to hear...
I like the 'aura' of dissatisfaction in this, maybe dissatisfaction w/ mortality...i hear tones of old italian piano, turn of the century vaudville, well done composition. all the best.

lengold said 317 days ago
Dissatisfaction with Mortality
It's not the mortality - it's the growing old. i think The Who had it right.
Old Italian Piano - now you say it, it is a bit like the start of a 'Godfather' film. Thanks for the listen and comments Tom. Really appreciated.

looking forward to dementia!
Yeah, me too Len! I really like the quiet start and how the song builds up. Nice keys - i always have to fake my piano playing. Real change to your last track.

Your voice commands as ever - sounds world weary on this one. Hope Breezie pulls through Len.

I will have
to write another song now - this one was keeping my mind off it. Thanks for your concern and comments Steve - they are important to me.
(Do you think the guitar sounds out of tune? I might pull it)

Kinks feel
The right hand pan on the opening piano threw me a bit, but it all developed nicely from there - nice song Len. Certainly a individual style that works.

what i like about
this song is the way it travels towards the end. I read the description, and I was feeling a bit grumpy myself, so I braced myself. But it has that unique LG sarcasm/cynicism. A solid smile appeared, have a good evening, errr what's your name...?

lengold said 317 days ago
I love that
you 'braced yourself' before listening. Thanks for your support as always Marc.

Right then Jack
I was working on a very drummy song for a few weeks - got so far and then couldn't take it further for some reason - might go back to it now. But recent events sort of got me going in a totally different direction.
Thanks for the comment and the concern - appreciated.

Cool production Len
kinda Brecht/Weill Three Penny Opera or geriatric Jim Morrison and The Doors. Well wishes to you and your pup.

Geriatric Jim Morrison
What a great thought and how did I miss the word geriatric in the song - what a tosser.

That's why I don't have one anymore... it can be too upsetting when they get old. But I like the song in your unique style, great piano on this and all the added sounds. I can empathise with some of your lyrics too LOL, cheers M

Aging etc. has been on my mind a lot
In the last 5 years I've lost a dog, two in-laws, my mother and just spent a week with my 85 year-old dad. Thank heavens he is still sharp but he does have poor eyesight and is deaf in one ear.

I can really relate to this song. Well done.

Sorry
to hear about your dog... But as far getting old I'm gonna act a fool when my time comes :D Dementia will give me an excuse to forget what the hell anyone was talking about anyway... After having to take care of my grandparents I gotten a sneak preview of it, so I always have tried to enjoy each day as if it were my last. Cool song I had to adjust in the beginning this being my first time listening to your songs but I understand your art thanks for sharing.

Strangely good
I thought something was wrong with my computers at first -- then your vocal came in, and I realized you were causing it, with your effects. A cool way to start a song.

Sorry to hear about your pet. We have two cats and a dog, and I wish they could be with us forever.

Your song is mournful, but with a strangely uplifting beat. Reminds me of late Beatles stuff.

lengold said 315 days ago
Thank you
very much for visiting John and for the complimentary comments and concern.
I wish they could be with us forever too.

Good Luck Breezie
She's a pretty girl and this is, as usual, a wonderful Len song. I love the marching quality, evocative of the inevitable march toward death we all do. There's a lot that's fun in this song, too, just like all your songs, a tongue-in-cheek misery. Happy doldrums.

I'm thinking of you and Breezie. My own dog has been very, very sick the last three months. Her body has been destroying its own bone marrow which we didn't realize until she ate five nails because she was so anemic and we've been through months trying to keep her alive long enough to find the right treatment. I really didn't think she was going to make it, but she has pulled through and the medication they're giving her is working right now. I hope that Breezie has a similar happy outcome. I know how worried and sad you must be feeling, Len. They really are like little people and definitely parts of our family, so I really feel for you.

Big hug!

lengold said 314 days ago
Unfortunately
she was just too old to pull through and she died yesterday. Thank you very much for your kind thoughts and i hope that your dog continues to thrive.
Appreciate the song comments - thanks.

Loved it!
We also have a four legged family member as well. But he's still in his prime and reeking havoc. Can't wait til he gets old and slows down. Until then I'm going to keep playing this song to him - hopefully it will speed things along.

lengold said 313 days ago
You mustn't
wish his life away H. He will be old soon enough - enjoy his vitality while it lasts.
Really pleased you liked the song and thanks for your support.

A very creative piece here. Full of surprises. Love the way it starts off completely panned to the right. The whole song has a sweet feeling of sloppiness, in a very positive ways, which underlines its distinctive character. I swear I could hear a dog barking :-)

Hi Len, you have a lot of facets in your work, an unique blend of planned chaos or abstraction, rhythmic timing, logical order, predictory & unpredictory... a very extremely hard thing to do and you pull it off with class & charm each time!!! Extremely well done!!!!! Sorry about Breeze, I hope your dog isn't suffering....
Best to you & yours,
Wade

Been there
I've reached the age where I have to be careful I don't write all of my songs about aging : >

Been there, done that with a 13-year-old schnauzer who was the joy of my life. I still miss him every day! When he died I was amazed at the shock of it - and I did the same thing as you: I wrote a song about it - primarily, I think, as a cathartic exercise, but certainly as a memorial to the little guy and a recognition of how incredible the bonding experience was.

I love that descending chord sequence, which can be heard as a ominous funeral death march ... or later as a positive life force.

lengold said 293 days ago
Thanks for
taking a listen Warren and commenting. I still keep turning round expecting her to be there. Very pleased you liked the song.
