Keywords Running (15)Hot (43)Night (85)
Description One from the archives. You can tell my age when I wrote this one by the imagery. The time of life when a guy thinks that a hot car is the key to all sorts of things in life not the least of which is his freedom; and the time of year when his biology tells him he is a lot more man than he really is. My cousin and I both had hot cars and we just tore up the town, risking life, limb and liberty in an attempt to find something. He had just lost the love of his life by being . . . well just like the song and I just lost my girlfriend who could not stand the Rock and Roll life style. This is the first time this one has seen the light of day. I am a little upset with the vocals because I have lost that edge in my voice that I had when I used to sing in bars every night, but you get the idea.
Lyrics Steel Streets
(c) 2008 Stephen M Schedra

Runnin' down the streets in your rag top freedom
Arms around a hot Spring blonde
Lines so fast even she can't read 'em
Have me thinking that I'm on

Runnin' with a girl who aims to please me
She never asks the way back home
She lets me lie and pretends to see me
Her pretty feet just love to roam

Hot night in the town out there
People move so lazy they don't seem to care
Hot night in the town below
Don't have time to worry why they move so slow

Runnin' over things that I once believed in
Tempting fate to lead me on
Love is past and I can't retrieve it
I just run until the pain is gone

Runnin' from a man who demands a reason
Runnin' from a place called home
Blood so fast it must be the season
Happy feet just have to roam

Hot night in the town out there
People try to make me but I just won't scare
Hot night in the town below
Don't have time to worry I just have to go

Thanks again
Feter,
Thank you so much. The band is virtual. I laid down MIDI drums. Then I added a MIDI bass line. Next I added my guitar. Then to the Midi keyboard for piano and organ. Then I went back and added MIDI embellishments for drums. Finally I did the vocal track. Thank, you for permission on the The Lady of the Roses. Let's see where it takes us.

Peace, out.

Great song!
But I do have to comment that, for me at least, the effect on the vocal is too much and detracts from the overall strength of the lyric and well-sung vocal.

But on the other hand it is your music and there is no reason in the world you cannot make it ANYWAY you want to. :-)

sschedra said 354 days ago
I had that feeling
As much as I encourage others to let their voices go, I guess I am always covering mine up. Do you mean using the chorus on the voice? Do you think I should have done it straight? Thanks for your evaluation. I appreciate an honest critique.

You're in good company then
John Lennon always wanted to use heavy effects on his vocals. I guess he never liked the way he sang.

I Like your voice ... A light chorus could work well. It just seems a little over the top and distracting to me on this song.

Just my opinion though.

Hey, dude
I tried to post a comment at work earlier today, and the piece of crap laptop I use at work went wacky and the whole comment disappeared. Aargh! Anyway, let me see if I can remember what I said...This is a great song. It has a classic sound that makes me think of Springsteen way back when. Made me nostalgic! You may not be happy with your vocal performance, but I think it sounds very good here. I agree with announcer about the effect on the voice - not that it's a bad idea, just that there's too much of it. Very nice work here. Radio-friendly, uplifting and very enjoyable. Keep 'em coming! Peace.

Nice!
I agree with the Springsteen comments all the way. I'm also picking up some Steve Earle in there. Either way, tough to go wrong with either of those guys. Look forward to more!

Hi Stephen
Well.written song. Kinda' Springsteen-ish. Should like your vocals fly, agree with announcer in that aspect. Maybe try doubling or tripling your voice instead of the chorus effect (on the main vox). Otherwise, I really like what I hear.

Good Song
Well-written song, Should let your vocals fly, maybe a little too much effect on the lead vox. Consider doubling or even tripling you voice. Otherwise, a very good song. Springsteen-ish. Rock.

Vox effect
works fine for me; adds a little punky Elvis Costello thing I like.

Cool song! Great keys in there too

No grandstanding
just a great tune. Straight-up rock with kind of a Springsteen-ish vibe to it. If you want to take it live, IM Silas Scarborough in Second Life and I'll be happy to help you get going. People beat the tar out of me for using backing tracks in 'live' gigs but that's old news now and lots of people are doing it. You've already got practically everything you need to go live in the virtual world so go for it :)
