Description Expanded version of an earlier tune.I was going for a "churchy" type sound.Of course should be played on acoustic but my left hand is not cooperating.

for checking it out!

guitapick said 324 days ago
Well...
...I think the church-like sound is very well captured on the electric. Can't say I wouldn't love to hear you on an acoustic...but this is beautiful, Mark.

Ibstrat said 321 days ago
I think
that alot of electric guitar is being played in those evangelical mega-churches-but probably a slightly different style!

lengold said 324 days ago
Absolutely
beautiful Mark.
Cheers

Hey Mark,
I'm listening over my best haute-fidelity headphones, and this sounds really, really good... As a feelingful performance, it's wonderful, and the recording is as good as I think you're going to get until that left hand of yours lets you return to the acoustic... This is truly beautiful...

Bell-like tones and a lovely reverberation...

I love it all, but I especially love the final jig...

Ed

Ibstrat said 321 days ago
Thanks Ed
I kind of think that the reverb washes it out too much-but it's kind of an interesting sound.

sloparts said 323 days ago
Bravo Mark
This is just exactly what you wanted it to be. Has an almost Nylon string sound to it to my ears. But there's more to it than just the nylon sound. The reverberations makes it sound like it's played in a cathedral.

Your playing is exquisite as always. Thank you for sharing this one Mark, it's a very beautiful piece.

ringing

Reverb
The 'verb works well to get a churchy sound - the guitar almost sounds like an organ in spots.

Breathtaking and sacred - wonderful track, Mark.

Ibstrat said 321 days ago
Thanks
You are an immensely talented person-great to hear from you!

Moviz said 323 days ago
I must say
that from what I can hear, your hand is working far better than mine. Beautiful 15/16th century sounding tones. It would be nice as a backdrop to a mediaeval film I think, regards M

Ibstrat said 321 days ago
Do you
mean one of those films with the wandering minstrel who goes from town to town playing his stratocaster? Actually my hand works pretty well-it's just extremely hypersensitive.Minor things which should not hurt can cause very bad pain.

DWL said 323 days ago
Wonderful playing
Clean, precise and a great sound.

Cheers

nice vibe......
i can imagine u in the cathedral playing to the ambiance....pensive at times ,tonally superb....

Ibstrat said 319 days ago
Not sure
if I'd be allowed in a cathedral with a beat up Strat...

Very nice rendition!
your notes have that weight that I like and lack!

Ibstrat said 319 days ago
From what
I've heard of your music you're not lacking in anything!

racerat said 322 days ago
churchiness
Beautiful tone. Just enough familiar passages to make one feel comfortable and just enough departures to keep one on ones toes. I really liked the progression and atmosphere. Warm and cozy reverb setting. Nice. Hope your hand eventually feels better....

The sound on this is fantastic
It actually made me visualize a church. Love the playing, as always, and the sound on the guitar is sweet. Beautiful. Hope your hand improves. Peace.

gothic
almost has a church organ quality to it. you almost expect Quisimodo to start ring the bells.

Ibstrat said 319 days ago
Maybe
I should have posted it under Gothic rock.

this needs
a deep baritone singing some type of soul breaking dirge about love lost....beautiful song, my brother....

Or
maybe a screaming metal vocalist.Do you know any?

Ibstrat said 318 days ago
I'm
waiting for the rap version of "Name That Tune".I can name that tune in 3 "uh's".

ValleyPastor said 320 days ago
Beautiful
And the electric guitar gives it a little "organ" feel. Prayerful and meditative. Added to favorites.

Ibstrat said 318 days ago
Very
glad that you liked it.Thanks!

... you nailed it.

Ibstrat said 318 days ago
It depends
on what your definition of the word "it" is.Just listened to "The Longing"...Fantastic.

J.A.Stewart said 319 days ago
Amen
Acoustic or Electric, doesn't much matter. This is very good bit of playing and sounds right for your *mission*. ;)

Knowing how an infirmity in your left hand can challenge how you play guitar makes this even more impressive.

Great playing and beautiful tone
I like all the little allusions to classic pieces in the flow of the work. Very nice indeed.

Ibstrat said 314 days ago
I would
be more inclined to say that I ripped off bits from a few different pieces. Thanks for your comment Bud!

Lennon714 said 316 days ago
Harpsicord
I think the electric guitar sounds fantastic on this track. Acoustic would sound nice, but the electric gives it a little something different, which is great. Call me crazy, but I'd like to hear this played on a harpsicord. Maybe that's just me, I'm always going for baroque... sorry. I had to say it. But seriously, I think it would really translate beautifully.

Ibstrat said 314 days ago
I think it's
called that because anyone who tries to make a living playing it ends up baroque. Thanks for checking out my song!

John Stebbe said 315 days ago
Liturgical
Bach would have been very comfortable with this. So you wrote this? You've really got composing chops. Love the voicings and the constantly moving bass line against the contrasting melody.

Reminds me of Lenten hymns from the Lutheran hymnal I was raised on.

The changing meter is a good choice -- interesting structure.

Sorry to hear about your left hand. That really stinks.

Ibstrat said 314 days ago
I tried
to write the first piece using Bach type harmony with no parallel 5ths,etc.The next 2 are celtic type melodies-I think there are several "broken rules" in there.Bach would have covered his ears!

Enjoyed this
almost has a christmasy sound. Love the light touch. The recording is really lush. The calming sound is very striking. Love the new age renaissance sound.

A quality sound indeed!

drakonis said 310 days ago
nice choice...
Very cool synergistic choices here... first, the melodies and harmonies are sweet and satisfying. Secondly, the steel-strings give a sharper attack, which creates more of a metallic-ringing, almost bell-like tone. Then, the tune is played slowly, so each note has its own life as it slowly decays. Finally, the cathedral-reverb enhances the carillon effect... and all these choices create a very rich "Renaissance-Cathedral" kind of feel. Exquisite.
ttfn,
Drakonis

PS - gorgeous photo, where is that?

Ibstrat said 308 days ago
I Think
it's somewhere in Scotland-I'm not sure. Thanks for the comment!

VicDiesel said 298 days ago
Quotes?
The classical harmonies give this tune the solemn atmosphere you aim for, so that's mission accomplished. Erm, there are a couple of phrases that I would change slightly: right now it sounds like you're playing "let nothing you dismay" and "should audl acquaintance"....

Ibstrat said 296 days ago
Yea
I knew about the God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman quote-somehow I didn,t notice Auld Lang Syne.Maybe I should change that!

Amazed!
One of the very best musics ever heard in this site. Your playing is amazing as always, and what a mix between 3 styles?

I especially like the last part (JIG ?), it's very Blackmore's acoustic stuff. I really wish to play this music with my acoustic guitar. Loved it very much.

Thanks for sharing ..
