Description Latest mix of original version of my Lost Song. Jazzier with a different choice of instruments and extra lines that were cut out of the Lost Song. I like this version a lot better, but my wife is not so sure (and wives are always right, right?)

And this is my first major use of sound effects. Always risky, what do you think??

Enjoy.

Feter
Your the best!

Glad you are hearing more dimensions here. That was what I had in mind. My lost song band is only a trio and they usually limit themselves to what they can play live, so I had to cut out the other parts.

DWL said 398 days ago
Didn't know who it was 1st time
and still don't but it's a nice piece :-)

Cheers

Thanks for listening. It no longer sounds much like ELP, but I think that is for the best.

michael2 said 398 days ago
still unsure
but i like it. i like the effects, they were very subtle. changes in the mix are cool too. i especially like that flutey synth and the wicked wurli part.

peacepiano said 397 days ago
Micheal
Glad you like the effects. I was trying to create the right latitude.

Good thing you came back. I always appreciate your comments.

MMm!
All that Jazz sounds wonderful. I love the mix of instruments against that drum backing which also sounds great and as fluid as the subtle sound effect, great playing, love it M

peacepiano said 397 days ago
Moviz
Appreciate the comments about the drums. Drum mixing is always a challenge, this piece has three percussion parts in some places, two more than I usually can handle.

Just so...
...cool, Bill. What a pleasant little jazz number. Love the synth flute and your Hammond. Very nice touches. The number really sustains itself. Are those drum loops? Well, they sound like the real thing...Hey, seagulls. Love it. (only suggestion: back off the bass a tad.) ... Oh...even a LONGER fade. You've got the right idea...just let it trail off...f-o-r-e-v-e-r... Such a nice song. Congratulations on some ingenious concepts.
Peace.
Paul

peacepiano said 397 days ago
Paul
The drums are loops, but there are quite a few compatible variants on this theme in the rhythm pack, plus a compatible conga which I use to support the drum kit and hopefully give it a more beach like mood.

Thanks for you suggestion about the ending!

Enrique Gil said 398 days ago
well....
you can tell your wife this version is great. I sure liked it. I always enjoy to hear what was used to record/compose a particular piece. I wish you'd mentioned it in your description. Keep playing!

peacepiano said 397 days ago
Enrique
Thanks for listening. I only have the clavinova, so everything but the drums are played through that. I am playing trough GarageBand using modified versions of the voices available. The drums and effects are also from GB or the Rhythm Jam Pack.

Hi
Great arrangement and sounds...

The ocean sounds took me miles away...

Thanks... :)

Thanks for listening

davisamerica said 397 days ago
right then
yeah the sounds add an ambient plus and the drums do sound quiet reall...love the organ...dunno man..different song from LSP alright, but i like it alot!

peacepiano said 397 days ago
DavisAmerica
Glad you liked the organ and drums. I added a lot of drum fills to the LSP version to make it more Carl Palmer sounding, but that changed the mood of the song, definitely different.

davisamerica said 397 days ago

different and cool...very nice

Mix

Very good version , the sound is larger , nice dynamics when the organ comes.

(Welcome to the "club of wives comments survivors" hahaha )

I am proud to join the "club of wives comments survivors" LOL

Good to hear you picked up on the dynamics, I originally had the two flute parts switched, but that didn't support the gradual build up as well.

Thanks again for listening.

this really has come along. All good!
I'm listening to this on a Sunday morn. and it just fits. nicely revised!

Thanks for stopping by the second time. This was a good experience mixing a song different ways to create different sounds, rather than in a search for that mystical best mix.

Nice and easy groovin'
Wonderful take two Paul. Where do I find this beach?
Thanks,
Doug

peacepiano said 394 days ago
Doug
I imagine the beach to be on a Caribbean island. Warm and mellow, even in December.

spitlogic said 395 days ago
sound effects
I doubt that it took away from the song at all. The seagulls on the beach sound was fitting at the end and was subtle enough to assist in ending it as opposed to getting in the way.

peacepiano said 394 days ago
Spitlogic
Thanks for checking on the sound effects. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for relaxing to this. Whenever I find out about what a famous artist listens to, I am always amazed that they often listen to music their fans would not like.

dajama said 394 days ago
Nice groove
and VERY nice playing throughout! I think the sound effects work well. Nice jazzy track. I have to say the picture just wants me to lay down on a beach somewhere, with this on the headphones and nothing but blue before me. DId I mention it was very evocative?! Very cool track. Nice work. Peace.

Thanks for the comments. Good to hear I transported you to the mythical beach :)

Swell!
This is really groovy, and feels like it's just one section of an endless jam going on somewhere far from here.....
I prefer this version to the ELP one, and think you should step up the sound effects on your next song.
Enjoyed.

peacepiano said 391 days ago
Sonny Jim
Another costumer successfully taken somewhere far away :)

I'll have to find a good musical context for the effects before I use them, but I like your push the envelope thinking. Pushing on.

John Stebbe said 390 days ago
Bongos
The bongos really are groovy, at the top of the piece. What a nice bed for the rest of the track.

I like the electric piano line. Very well done. Makes me think of Spyro Gyra.

The organ part is appealing, and sounds very authentic.

I like the space you put between phrases, from time to time. Makes the notes you do play sound all the sweeter.

peacepiano said 389 days ago
John
Spyro Gyra is one of my favorite bands. I have several of their albums and listen to them a lot. If I was thinking more clearly when I did the Lost Song Project I should have used this as a lost Spyro Gyra song, instead of forcing it into a late ELP sound. Thanks for your comments :)

jazzier. The effects are used to great affect. Tastefully without being over the top. The flute synth lead is melodic and relaxing. Diggin the B3 sound as well.

peacepiano said 381 days ago

I think I prefer the jazzier sound. The flute is pretty fun to imitate on the keyboard. Thanks for stopping by :)

Great Piece
Hi Bill... I like this... I like anything that makes me feel good... in a groove.. after I listen to it. Really liked the keys breakout about 3/4 way through...

Great job :)

Good to hear you caught the feel good southern latitude kind of sound I was after. Thanks for listening!!

TobinMueller said 365 days ago
Warming interlude
Very nice sound, mixing, warm feel. The melodic content is a bit rambling, like a slice of life free jam, and could use a stronger theme (in my eyes) to give the track more substance. Enjoyable interlude.

peacepiano said 365 days ago
Tobin
Thanks for taking the time to comment! Your point about the melodic content is very helpful. I seem to have plateaued, so sound advice like that is just the ticket :)

cthayes said 361 days ago
relaxing groove
Great arrangement & performances! The keyboard work is excellent, and the bass (whether sampled or real) is very nice. A good tune to have on the iPod while kicking back, closing my eyes, and wishing winter would end! Good stuff!

peacepiano said 361 days ago
cthayes
Glad you like the key work. The bass is another keyboard track. The percussion is Apple loops. Always fun using these warm beats in the wintertime! Thanks for listening.

Karmatoburn said 360 days ago
different mix
and the plusher sounds are a huge boost. This one has got a more tropical ambience. Different level of the fx in mix? nice remix!

peacepiano said 360 days ago
KTB
Thanks for listening. There is a pretty high level on the effects on this version.

air to breath
Yes - wives are always right ... so you are better off not asking her : >

I like the sound effects. They help develop the island-beach mood of the piece, adding ambience. Using them is like working with other instruments: the more you do it, the more natural it seems for them to be a part of a composition.

This whole piece is a breath of fresh air.

peacepiano said 352 days ago
Warren
Thanks for stopping by. I guess I will have to use sound effects more often and consult my wife on music less often ;)
