Description A Lost song from a "solo" artist who seeked spirituality in his life. Overlooked or forgotten during final mixing. Oh well, that's in the past.

This would be a period in time when pop rock songs were still played on AM radio.
Lyrics Inner Light

traveling down this worn out road again
picking up pieces scattered around my sin

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

don't forget all the memories you see
listen to everything you have been they say

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

there's a bridge on this path
crossing over leaving the past
there's a light at the end of the road that's where i need to go

on my cloud above it all blue skies
i see my life now guided by my inner light

searching for the inner light
a little trip in my mind
searching for the inner light
a little piece in my life

Sounds like a killer Vic Holman tune
to me that some time traveling fellow found and said "aha! I think I'll knick this" and rode off on his dark horse.

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
and wouldn't ya know it
he got a ticket for not having emission controls on horse

davisamerica said 400 days ago
right then
give me a minute but very cool vic..lol

davisamerica said 399 days ago
yep
right then got to be george....huh...but man this is a killer track vic!!

Ejh said 400 days ago
From that rare, hard to find, cut-out bin classic...
That collection of demos Harrison did with Badfinger and ELO...

as
soon as you started playing it was obvious: George Harrison. would this be all things must pass? nice song and everything sounds great (as always). nice one Vic (really like that bridge).

said 400 days ago
A little "Happy You" :-)
And The Traveling Willburys :-) running down a new dream - learning to fly - nothin' but blue skies... peace, Bro :-) Another "Happy Tune", but my favorite will always be "Without The Sun" ( Love is... the best inspiration. :-) ) Some feathers in one's pocket - always a blessing.

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
Hi Carole
think a little earlier then T.W.'s But the sound is a lot the same when we look back at them.

perceptualvortex said 400 days ago
Tough call
My first impression was Tom Petty, but then parts sound very George Harrison. I'm stumpt.

perceptualvortex said 400 days ago
Oh yeah
Forgot to mention that I really like the song! Also, really super great graphic.

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
Hi Dave
seems the two are a a lot alike in a lot of ways.

The art here as well as my avatar I created in Freehand. I prefer it over Illustrator. Sad that Adobe is going to trash it after the buy out.

echoroom said 400 days ago
Rockin
I agree with Bud, sounds like V. Holman to me .. second guess would be Tom Petty. Whatever, great song, nice and short but chock full o goodies!

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
ah, it sucks
when I can't impersonate voices. I'll make an excuse and say this artist had a cold or something during recording

lengold said 400 days ago
Vic you
really capture those sounds of yesteryear - really enjoyed the listen. Sounds like George to me too.
Cheers
Len

Peter Bauckham said 400 days ago
We've had
Vic Floyd now it's time for Vic Harrison... There's more than a bit of Tom Petty in there as well. As to which album... It's not Wonderwall Music (which is the only George Harrison album I'm familiar with). There is a bit of Badfinger also - but they were very Beatlesque.

Killer tune as ever Vic.

Peter

Peter Bauckham said 399 days ago
Could this be
"All Things Must Pass"...

peacepiano said 399 days ago
Agree
I have to agree :)

Sounds great too!!

Vic Holman said 397 days ago
Thanks guys
by George....you are right!

Ibstrat said 399 days ago
Great song
That descending Bm progression confirms that it must be George Harrison-one of my favorite guitarists.Excellent song, vocals and guitar work.

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
Hi Mark
by now you've realized I like those descending notes. A trademark of this artist as well.

Note to self: work on ascending progressions

said 399 days ago
funny thing
when i listen to alot of these songs, it begs the question; why arent you writing songs like this all the time? this is very good, and could still be relevant on the radio. this is a very good direction for you, i think.
Allen

Vic Holman said 397 days ago
Thanks Allen
Once in a while I'll do something a long this line. I just like to mix it up a bit. To many influences over the years. ya know

said 399 days ago
Lit up
That guitar solo must be inspired by the artist you are emulating because it is an uncommon VH solo, I know the clues are there...GH is the obvious choice but if not him then who? Lovely anywho...

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
very true
the solo is modeled after some of the songs of the album I'm comping. A clean tone through the neck pickup of my semi hollow body electric. really has a different tone. It was nice to finally find a place to put it.

Moviz said 399 days ago
Really
excellent song with great production (how do you get that volume?), so well played ,sung and arranged..... and I think I'd have to go with George Harrison too, M

Vic Holman said 398 days ago
volume
nice compressors and eq'ing for the most part. Plus, when i pan a track often I need to move parts of the pan field slightly to make room or avoid stepping on toes of other frequencies. clean tones work best as well. I do effects through a efx pedal board going in, so I know exactly how each track is sounding compared to the previously recorded tracks. Then I set a limiter at the end but don't boost it.

said 399 days ago
All Vics Must Pass...
Nice GH-ish tune bro...Or is this the ghost of GH doing VH for LSP?

I agree with Mr. Wounded re the "uncommon" (for VH) guitar solo. Quite a departure from the type of licks you usually deliver, but exceptionally DELICIOUS nonetheless...

Not really sure which album, as the lyrics are full of red herrings...

Be well bro!

Vic Holman said 398 days ago
I did some careful....
listening on tones for the solo. Tried a few different guitars and amp models. And funny enough found that the same amp model and guitar I used for the electrics worked best. But with the neck pick up instead. And used a herrin as a pick. :-)

Diviner said 399 days ago
When I first heard this
I thought it was Cat Stevens, but it is too electric for Cat. Also everyone is so sure its George Harrison, although Tom Petty is a good guess as him and GH were really good friends and influenced each other. This track for me is harder then the first one you submitted for LSP.
The quality of all the elements of this track are very good. Everything from the lyrics to the production are great. Well done Vic.

Vic Holman said 396 days ago
i think
a lot of musicians learned a lot from G.H. You can hear in Tom Petty's music quite true.

SmokeyVW said 399 days ago
pass/fail?
after just 3 seconds: George Harrison - My Sweet Lord

nice one

& i like the upside down song pic

so i guess it's missing from All Things Must Pass.

said 399 days ago
Vic!
Always a great song Tom Petty comes to mind but then it dont matter excellent!!!!!!

Doug Somers said 399 days ago
Yup
I hear Harrison in this one. As to the album, well.....maybe I'll come back. Stunningly good job!!!! Really liked how this sounded.

Thanks!!

I'll go with George Harrison.

said 398 days ago
Gotta be David Seville!
...who, incidently, was also know as a member of an English group (commonly known as the Beatles) under the name of George Harrison. Seville was known for recording many different styles of music under many different names, many of whom are still undiscovered or disputed. There were many hints here and there in his music (if you play 'Alvin's Harmonica' backwards while watching The Wizard Of Oz, the flying monkeys will appear to say 'Bagdasarian' in Swedish)

Living all these double lives came to affect Seville, however, and he increasingly became more spiritual - which showed in his music. Eventually he 'killed off' all of his alter egos - or most, experts are still unsure about a few - and continued with the George Harrison personna until the end.

I'm going to hell, aren't I?

Vic Holman said 398 days ago
Yes Rik
you are going to hell in a hand basket. With your little dog, too.

As we all know, David Seville lives in a retirement home now, gnashing his dentures on table legs. Only to scream from his nightmares "Alvin!!!" He doesn't realize that all three chipmunks have been dead and buried in a shoe box for years now. It would crush his spirit.

Rebsie said 398 days ago

Lovely!

It's all been said already so I've nothing intelligent to add.

"My Sweet Lord"...that's a nice tune!

said 398 days ago
Still no clue...
thought I'd come back for another try at figuring this out. The opening guitar riff sounds way too familiar. It brought memories of listening on the AM radio in the car when we'd take family trips. (it's funny you mention the AM radio thing in the comments) I can hear that riff continuing, but can't remember anything else about that song. Was it Badfinger maybe? Nice tune as always, Vic!

i hope i don't end up suffer from identity crisis.

J.A.Stewart said 398 days ago
Well No Wonder(wall) it was lost...
George previously used the title ( *The Inner Light* ) for the flip-side of Lady Madonna when he was still a Beatle.

Really impressive. A great-sounding tune, Vic.

Can I call on you when I do a Beatles tribute song? I've asked McCartney to help, but he doesn't seem to be answering my calls. ;)

--- Joe

Vic Holman said 397 days ago
Thanks Joe
It now can be revealed.

I shortened the title. I thought that would give a clue to the artist.

And yeah I do at times carry on the George banner. Funny....Paul never returns my calls either. what's up with that?

Karmatoburn said 397 days ago
damn nabbit
the only one I get and like a million others guessed it 1st. well done. a true contender for the digital re master they'll do when they want to spark some sales. you may be doing an emulation but its Vic all the way. solid

Vic Holman said 397 days ago

..if only Paul or Ringo would give me that dream job.....I can flash a peace sign as well.

jiguma said 397 days ago
You nailed the guits Vic!
Sounds like Harrison with the Wilburys - keep waiting for Petty to jump in.
Great stuff!
Neil

Vic Holman said 396 days ago
Petty who?
I kept this under 3 minutes, like in the old am radio days, so it was over before anyone could jump in. well, except Ringo, who sat in, he never leaves his drum stool.

said 396 days ago
bang!!
way to start off with one, vic.
8)

those sweet slidy touches are very nice.
"there's a light at the end of the road that's where i need to go"
MAN! that hit me over my ears' head with a ball peen hammer.
loved that.

i think you held back a little mix-wise on the backing.
i'd up the volume there, and mix your vocal with a different effect to separate the 2. (just my notsohumbleopinion)

what about "crosses over, leaves the past" as a slimmer lyric?

i applaud your subject matter - it was where i needed to go.
i enjoyed this song.
and am grateful for your continued listens - apparently you are not a score keeper. thank gawd!
anne

Vic Holman said 395 days ago
Thanks Anne
At the very beginning there are four slides then two for the rest playing in harmony thats the george secret.

I was considering adding another two vocal backups. But, wasn't sure, or to lazy. I think I will readdress that and also try the line you have suggested as well. I think you are right!

P.S. you should never have a ball peen hammer around a computer! ;-)

Doadars Uncle said 395 days ago
Hey Vic
Actually, my wife pointed this one to me, recently. It just takes me longer to get back in touch than it used to!

Yeah, I agree with the Harrison connection!

But, essentially Vic!

Peace,
Doug

Vic Holman said 395 days ago
Thanks Doug
When I first learned to play guitar way back when. It was Beatle George that I learned from first. No tabs back in those days you just had to play along. It's fun to go back and realize what made you want to play in the first place.

Killer new track of yours Doug.

psexnyc said 395 days ago
Awesome Vic
I've really been bad with guessing an artist for these LSPs and especially with this song. I'm glad I read the comments first to find whose lost song this is, cuz the artist I picked was not the one you performed.

And what a performance!! Awesome Awesome Performance!!

apb said 395 days ago
Although ..

.. there's alot of Harrison in this. I get an overall
sound more akin to The Byrds .. with a hint of Tom Petty.
Awesome. Enough mix of influences to make this fresh and interesting - so I agree with Allen, this song-writing approach could bring some major commercial success...
might just require a slight modermization of sounds used here and there, while retaining that retro sound.

Well done Vic, brilliant mix, great vocals and guitars in particular.

Bob Rodgers said 394 days ago
Great
song Vic, great guitar sounds, great everything I just loved it!!

Vic Holman said 394 days ago
thanks Bob
I am glad you liked it. I wasn't sure if I was going to post this song at all. But then I thought it shouldn't let it go. otherwise i would over forgotten about it.

Vic Holman said 394 days ago
Thanks Alan
Well the Byrds listened to the beatles, and the beatles listened to the byrds and petty listened to them all. then i listened to petty. so yes there is a melting pot i think to this subtle style. there is sure to be influence to me from all three. i think they are a great source of how to build a song,

thoddi said 394 days ago
And George it is
I also find some Tom Petty - your voice and the rocking feel of it gives me that feeling.

But a very good song, and great playing.

Vic Holman said 394 days ago
Thanks Thor
this is one of those type of songs where George and T. Petty left of at. that's the way i figure it and once in a while i try and carry on a little bit of it.

GH
In a testament to your great guitar tone ear and abilities. I got this LSP in about 3 seconds. It's gotta be Harrison. And you totally nailed it. But the vocals do sound more like Tom Petty, but what can ya do, ya know?
Nice Work Vic,
Philip

Vic Holman said 391 days ago
Thanks Philip
True, I could not get G.H's vocal. he has a tight lilt to it. So, to true what 'cha going to do.
