Keywords Pop (496)lie (7)glockenspiel (7) ()
Description I have to apologise for the quality of this. I've copied it from a flexi disc given away with a fanzine and not really been able to tidy it up.

The story is that the band were filming on the South coast (although I'm not sure those scenes ever made it to the final film) and apparently having a hard time with the schedule during the day and the parties at night. During a brief break they found one of those recording booths that used to be a regular feature in English seaside towns. They thought it'd be a great laugh to try and record something in the booth (despite having access to the best studios and engineers).

Space was a little cramped so no bass or drums although the drummer did buy a toy glockenspiel at a nearby souvenir shop.

The flexidisc is claimed to be by The LPs and they obviously weren't too impressed with the song (and I have to agree that lyrically and musically it wasn't one of their best) as it never made an album. Even the vocals leave a lot to be desired. Just goes to show you that even superstars have their off days.

Cheers

Dick
Lyrics This morning I woke up
Sometimes I don't have to try
This morning I broke up
Thinking back to the night you lied

You lied, when you told me
Our love would last for ever
You lied, when you told me
Our love would last for ever and ever

My windows are open
Trying to let the summer in
There's no use in hoping
When love is just a sin

When you lie, and there's no love
No love to last for ever
When you lie, and there's no love
No love to last for ever and ever

Ha!
I don't know many people who could get away with doing the Beatles, but you've done it.

Which album though? Hmm ... probably an early one like Please Please Me.

Now, where's our LSP collab? ;)

DWL said 401 days ago
Patience is a virtue
I should be working on it instead of replying to this :)

Thanks

Yep sounds a bit Beatles
or merseyside generally...on the other hand it could be off an early Guided By Voices album too?
Steve

DWL said 401 days ago
Could be
but then again....

echoroom said 401 days ago
sounds like...
..they had a hard days night... was this recorded in Hamburg, Mr DWL (not DLT)?

Love the crackles...ahhh, flexi discs!

DWL said 401 days ago
Southend
sorry, it wasn't the south coast and they did have a bit of a tough time ;-)

Tell you what though, that flexidisc still plays (after a fashion) even though it's over 40 years old. I'm not sure CDs will.......

Toy Glockenspiels
...always handy to have in a pinch, aren't they?

I'm going to have to go with the Fab Four too! Wonderful atmosphere and sound... those rice-crispie crackles are the perfect touch!

DWL said 401 days ago
Yep, glocks are cool
I recommend one 3 times a day.

Stay away from those xylophones though, they'll do yer ead in.

Thanks for stopping by Rick

Help
This is good. I like the "Seafront recording booth " sound effect. Missed the cut for the Help sound track I would guess. Great fun, glad you submitted it.

Thanks

Igrew particularly fond of
George's soloing by the end. Must've been the salt air and summer breeze that opened the window for this fine tune.I'll go with the Fab Faux and Squeeze, Squeeze Me.

bud said 401 days ago
oops
there I go getting my wires crossed again. Great tune Dick - love the crappy quality.

Peter Bauckham said 401 days ago
Great
lost Beatles track - sounds awfully like 'In My Life' in parts! But I guess it belongs to 'A Hard Days Night' having read your text

Whatever happened to those recording booths? I remember there was one at Victoria station in the late 60s...

Love the lo-fi sound!

Peter

The Quarrymen
That is what I think ...hehe... nice tune, Dick.

The Quarrymen (sometimes written as The Quarry Men) (circa late 1956 - Oct 1959) are an English skiffle group formed in Liverpool in the latter part of 1956 by John Lennon with several school friends. It was the band that eventually evolved into The Beatles. The group's name was inspired by the name of the Quarry Bank grammar school, which Lennon and most of his band-mates attended.

And this song was never recorded just an demo tape it was LOST lol
I am glad you find it again THX...hahaha

Cheers

DWL said 398 days ago
You'll have to dig
harder in that Quarry. Far too early......

Plenty of pictures of the Quarrymen but I'm not sure there are many recordings so it wasn't a bad guess.

Well done, I listened to the track before reading everybody's comments and it did scream Beatles, but you have done it very well. Thanks for putting a huge grin on my face, this track is brilliant.

Fantastic
I love that lo-fi sound (reminds me of my old bands rehearsal tapes)

Like most people, the thing that springs to mind immediately is the beatles, but I am not 100% sure thats what you were going for here, so I will have to say

???????

DWL said 398 days ago

Thanks Bryn

Brilliant Dick!
Sounds like you and the Fab 4 had a great time in that booth! You have really captured their sound - and the glock, is that the inspiration of George Martin? As to the album, I'd guess it was a special fan club release that most of us never saw.

Loved it!!

Cheers,
Doug

DWL said 397 days ago
It was very crowded
and some people have less than strict personal hygiene :-O

I think it was Ringo that came up with the Glock - it was that or the tambourine.......

Thanks for listening Doug.

Komrade K said 399 days ago
Timeless
Well that certainly sounds like Mr Lennon doing the count in - and I am getting a bit of Beatles but another group as well although I can't put my finger on it right now. Anywelk, it has a timeless pop quality and could be a hit today - ace glock solo btw!

KK

DWL said 397 days ago
And the answer is
The Beatles! TBH it could have been any of the pop groups of the middle sixties. Mindless lyrics and singalong tune. The perfect pop song!

Cheers

Dick

Komrade K said 395 days ago
Sitting next to that inner guitar god...
...is a pop star waiting to get out! Actually I don't think the lyrics are quite that mindless...

Too easy
It's The Ruttles. Possibly from 'A Hard Day's Rut'?

Epileptic Gibbon said 399 days ago
Oops
I meant The Rutles. Excuse my misspelling.

DWL said 397 days ago
In fact it was probably the nearest
as Paul was good mates with Neil Innes.....

Actually I think it's either The Originals or the New Originals.Very well Done!

DWL said 397 days ago
The Originals
I can't remember ever hearing very much by them. I'll need to search them out.

Cheers

guitapick said 398 days ago
Opening instrumental...
...reminds me of "In My Life", Rubber Soul album...

...something about the full tune, though, reminds me of Chad and Jeremy (Distant Shores album).

Last chord reminds me of "In My Life" again...

So: I DON'T KNOW!!!!

I'll go with "In My Life"...though I loved Chad and Jeremy.

DWL said 397 days ago
In my life was near but
it was a little earlier before they started writing about themselves and slowed down on the love songs.

Cheers

Dick

Enrique Gil said 398 days ago
I really like this piece!
It evokes music from The Beatles. This song is worthy of a better recording. I've downloaded this one. Let me know if you ever freshen it up! Great job. Thank you.

DWL said 397 days ago
Thanks Enrique
I am actually reworking it with a new verse and extra instrumentation.

I actually didn't think much of the song and was going to delete it but it seems to have something and , as you say, deserves a better recording.

Watch this space!

Cheers

Dick

But I did.

Oh well, I'm glad I caught it on a second look :D
I love the lo-fi of this! Clever!

What a great track--I'd love to hear it in a digital 'remix,' too.
Classic-vibe song. Excellent!

You took on a big task for this one, but you nailed it in my opinion. The chunky strumming aftere "You Lied" really drove it home for me. Great job!
