Description This is my contribution to the Lost Songs Project. Just for fun!!

I think 'Hungry Like The Wolf' by Duran Duran is the BEST guess, the one I wished I would've thought of myself. Frankie Goes To Hollywood and The Buggles, and many of the other guesses below, are better ideas than my actual inspiration.

What I had intended however was to imitate: TEARS FOR FEARS "ELEMENTAL" !! When I first heard Tears For Fears, I realized how much you could do with home recording equipment, pretending you were a multi-person band. So it was a kind of tribute.

Song art is by my friend, Martyn Murphy, titled Music Floss. I considered several images of werewolves instead, but opted for this. Its one I haven't added to his ArtsForge Gallery yet and I need to do it soon... One of my favorites of his.

I already have ideas for next years project... (It's funt to have an excuse to do pop tracks.)
Lyrics YOU CAN'T TOUCH ME

You can’t touch, you can’t touch me.

I’m what you want, I know it.
I’m what you want, I show it.
You can’t touch me. No, you can’t touch me.

You think you know what I am.
You think you got me hand.
But I am a dragon’s claw.
The teeth of a cat.
I’m the eye of the storm.
The tongue of a rat.
I am a sword in the wind.
The shadow of God.
The hiss of a snake.
And the witch’s silent nod.
And you can’t touch this. Or this. Or this.
No you can’t hold that. Or that. Or that.
You can’t touch me.

I’ll hold tight.
I’ll kiss you through the night.
I’ll tell you that I love you true.
You’ll think that you have loved me too.
But darling, don’t you start.
For love I’m just too smart.
Don’t believe a word I say;
Just enjoy the game we play
Before I run away.

I’m what you want, I know it.
I’m what you want, I show it.
You can’t touch me. No, you can’t touch me.

You think you got down you part.
You think you’ve got my heart.
But I’m the cliff at night.
I’m the dark of the moon.
I’m the cry of the wolf
And the virgin’s swoon.
I’m the giant in chase.
The foot out the door.
I’m the mouth full of blood.
I’m the pusher always asking for more.
Asking for more. More.

You’ll call me sweet and sweep me off my feet.
You’ll think that you have touched me too.
But don’t pretend you know me through.
You know that I can hold you tight
And kiss you through the night,
But don’t believe a word I say;
Just enjoy the game we play
Before I run away.

Don’t hold tight,
Don’t kiss me through the night
If you think I’ll love you too.
I’ll never say the words to you
Before I run away.

You Can't Touch Me
groovey work and production ..dunno is this
modern Styx ? the lyrics reminds me of them
with the synthitic bass they used to use !!
anyway ..this just great friend !!

Joe Brady said 405 days ago
Nice vocal!
You sound great Tobin; Awesome chord changes, open the theater, the strike's over. Very nice, really like this.

Joe Brady said 405 days ago
Sounds like
Mr. roboto? Styx?

said 405 days ago
dont care
what album it is finishing.... very good song!!
again, amazed at your range as a musician...
again, in awe, and a touch green with envy..

iPhoenex said 405 days ago
Bee Gees?
The Bee Gees in a dark mood? Something from late 70s, early 80s? Maybe "Main Course" - hence the werewolf hint? :)

biba_nova said 405 days ago
Frankie Goes To Hollywood
....as produced by Trevor Horn (ala Relax)

?

ageofthedeathtree said 405 days ago

us sons of hypnos here have to say depeche mode off of the album violator. let us know if we're correct. great tune though, really catchy!

seems familiar in a way
but I'm a bit lost to come up with anything specific. I'll probably knock my head sideways when you revel..... kinda like "Aha"

davisamerica said 405 days ago
wow tobin
someone said depeche mode...maybe...gonna take a few more listens..anyway is very nice!

Godchaser said 405 days ago
In the 80's.
Makes me think of A-ha a little in the chorus and perhaps a little touch of Thomas Dolby or Flock of Seagulls.Though their name escapes me this sounds like that 80's band that did 'Red Sky At Night'..........??????Regardless another well crafted song.

Blessings,

Hmmm ...
The harmonies are making me think of the BeeGees, but musically and lyrically it goes somewhere else ... so ... er ... no idea!

Nice harmonies anyway.

Epileptic Gibbon said 405 days ago
I can't touch this
I just can't work out who it is. It's definitely not Depeche Mode, Styx or the Beegees though (or at least I don't think it is). But who is it then? Hmmm, there is that strong Trevor Horn production element, but the harmonies don't fit with any of the bands most commonly associated with him that I can think of. Are the vocals supposed to sound American or should they sound more British? Hmmm, I'm floundering. Maybe Buggles or 90125 era Yes, but I really don't think so. WHO IS IT??!!

Suzanne said 404 days ago
Asia?
...in one of their poppier moods? Buggles is a good guess. He's not telling me... It just sounds like Tobin to me... hard to imagine what it would sound like with maybe guitar and other voices...

lengold said 404 days ago
The bass
rhythm is very much Frankie Goes to Hollywood. After that I'm lost. Whatever, this is a great song and brilliantly performed/produced.
Cheers

Lyrics and music
do make me think of Styx's "Kilroy Was Here". Ironically, this is stronger musically than most of the songs on that album. To me "Kilroy" was where Styx "jumped the shark".

Tobin- very cool song!

psexnyc said 404 days ago
I Know Who's Lost Song This Is..
It's not Styx's. It's not Depeche Mode's...This song was supposed to be on the Electric Light Orchestra's 1976 album Strange Magic!

Ejh said 404 days ago
Wrong era for me....
...So I'll guess...

Those guys who did 'Hungry Like The Wolf'? Duran Duran?

Or Trevor Ravin-era Yes? (It's those synth stabs...) Owner of a Lonely Heart kind of thing?

Ed

Peter Bauckham said 404 days ago
Well
musically I'm going with 'Frankie Goes To Hollywood' - That growling bass really reminds me of 'Relax' - not sure who it sounds like vocally...

Sounds great!

nice tune

thanks

I guess I'm in the Frankie camp
whatever it is - it's one amazing tune. Did you really whip this up at the last minute?

Scott Carmichael said 404 days ago
The Lyric
and Vocals are reminiscent of Yes... maybe more in the Trevor Rabin area..

excellent work Tobin... you're a pro

Wow Tobin!
I'll have to go with one of the later Styx albums as well, although I'm far from certain. I didn't listen to the radio much in the 80's.

Beautifully arranged and produced bro. The vocals are stellar!

Be well friend!

Mystified said 404 days ago
I'm so bad at all this guessing...
So I'll just say, this is another great addition to the LSP playlist!!

Excellent!!

Great tune great performance
But I have no idea who it is. Too much harmony for Wham or Duran Duran or FrankieGTH. And I don't think it's Styx. It sounds SO familiar but every time I think I know who it is it slips away... anyway, really enjoyed this piece!
Keep well!

Lovely track
Erasure, Bryan Ferry, Marillion?
Not too sure, however one thing that I am sure of is that it is a brilliant track. Well done, its very enjoyable.

michael2 said 403 days ago
i'm going
to go with Asia. Good song, but this is killing me. i need to know.

said 403 days ago
WOW!
There's so much here that blows away! So who is it? There's something extremely familiar about it - not sure if I'm twigging to several different things or something overall and specific. Many of the guesses are in the neighborhood, but there's something else here, something that's just humming on the edge of my mind.

The theatricality of this is wondrous... could it be a lost tune from Phantom Of The Opera?

DWL said 403 days ago
I'd go FGTH
it's those analog synth hits but the vocals are a bit complex.

Nonetheless I'm guessing it's the missing track from Welcome to The Pleasure Dome.

Fantastic stuff Tobin :-)

Cheers

Dick

peacepiano said 403 days ago
Love the track
I will suggest Buggles Age of Plastic. But there are other '80s bands that used little or no guitar.

Thanks

Yesss
It's Yes, from "Tormato"!

Ok, that's my guess anyway. Pretty amazing production.

Moviz said 399 days ago
I seem to
Recognise those opening sounds and the beat... as........ Frankie Goes to Hollywood? Great sound and production, love it all, M

jiguma said 399 days ago
Yes!
Great sound Tobin, and I'd put money on it being Yes - well, not very much money, but I would.
