Description This is a submission for the Lost Song Project. Of course you have to guess who I'm trying to rip off. Artist and album. It's probably a heavier track then "the boys" had intended.
Lyrics Crazy Star

you lost your head past the clouds
we threw you a rope to bring you down
oh how we tried to hush the sounds

crazy star you shined so bright
now you hide from the shadows that haunt your mind

on a sharp steel edge you slipped your mind
we are picking up the pieces you left behind
crazy star you burned so bright
now dark holes fill your mind

demented memories gone to far
fly on the wall held your calls
lost all outside contact after all

you threw away the key to you cell
talking to no one on a panic to fail
oh how we should have read the writing on the wall

crazy star you shined so bright
now you hide from the shadows that haunt your mind

on a sharp steel edge you slipped your mind
we are picking up the pieces you left behind
crazy star you burned so bright
now dark holes fill your mind

crazy star you shined so bright
now you hide from the shadows that haunt your mind

Dark Side of the Moon?
Just a guess. It's all the echoes on the vocals and "slidy" guitar which remind me.

Great song anyway. Superb arrangement and playing as always.

So you moved from LE? (you probably did a while back but I never noticed) I never got my head around LE let alone full blown Logic.

You're definitely using it to good effect.

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
Hey Dick
Logic isn't so hard once it clicks. the compressors alone are better.

I can't release my dark side yet

Diviner said 406 days ago
Err Pink Floyd
on the album 'Wish you were here', thats my guess. Very good track, I love it. Well done VIC. All elements are very well done.

(Note: Your voice actually sounds like Peter Gabriel, and thats no bad thing.)

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
we'll know in a week
I hadn't thought of Peter Gabriel. maybe if this project comes around again. I might give that a thought.

ageofthedeathtree said 406 days ago
just a guess...
definitely floyd! definitely a great tune! i'd have to say momentary lapse of reason for the album though...has that "just after waters left" feel to it, to me anyways. let me know if i'm correct. great tune again man, great tune!

all secrets will be
revealed in a week. gosh, i'm having a momentary lapse of reason. I'm sure I'll remember in a week when we all reveal our source

Peter Bauckham said 406 days ago
Well
I'll go along with Pink Floyd but as to which album? Something pre-dating DSOTM perhaps - Meddle... although the lyrics rather hint at Wish You Were Here?

Great track!

Peter

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
Hi Peter
everyone will be posting the truth in a week. so there is time to mull it over. I didn't want to make to easy!

said 406 days ago
Vic Floyd!
Great stuff Vicar! Surely this is the one that got away from "Wish You Were Here..."

I dig this so much man. Shine on you crazy Macjammer!

Be well!

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
come to think...
...of it. this band never has put out a anthology album.

Nice remix job on Lethe. Bro!

said 406 days ago
"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"
I maybe is out and cycling but if not "Dark side of the moon" then.
hahaha ... anyway very good track as always.

Peace, Love & respect

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
hi Kenta
everyone participating will reveal there source in a week.

I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Rebsie said 406 days ago
Love it
Whooo, this is fabulous. I mean fabulous in its own right aside from its Floydiness.

There is something Dark Side Of The Moon about it ... it has just the kind of dark intensity which belongs to that album.

Nice one!

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
Thanks Rebsie
well the band I'm emulating did tend to go after the dark side of the human psyche on most of there. albums. Alot of help I am :-)

echoroom said 406 days ago
Pinky
Man, if they reformed you could be their Sid barrett... in fact, i think you are!

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
Hi Steve
which one is pink? "I'm only as crazy as I pretend to be."

Epileptic Gibbon said 406 days ago
No idea who it is... ;-)
But seriously (and that wasn't my guess - I don't think it's Phil Collins!), it's seems obvious that it's Pink Floyd, but I think people have the timing wrong. Wish You Were Here fits lyrically, but the sound fits better with Animals or The Wall. I'm really intrigued to find out which album you were going for.

said 406 days ago
I'm with you on this
Maybe more toward the earlier albums...

Cool song

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
i guess we spill the beans in a week
who knows maybe there is a unknown anthology album they never released. without Phil Collins of course

bud said 406 days ago
"Crazy Star you shined so bright"
kinda seals the deal on Wish You Were Here - but that could be a clever red herring. Still I'm gonna go with it. Great track Vic. I've only listened to 4 entries so far and I'm having a blast.

Vic Holman said 404 days ago
red herring in the sky
yes I also am getting the greatest kick out of listening to all the entries. this is a really fun event

J.A.Stewart said 405 days ago
Nice Emulation
of the Floyd feel.

Much of musical chronology is a blur to me now, but I'm guessing, because of the two lyrical references to *the wall* that it falls sometime after that landmark work.

My second guess is The Monkees from their *Head* album. lol

Great-sounding work, Vic. ;)

--- Joe

Vic Holman said 404 days ago
monkee do
actually I had been thinking of doing a variation of the porpoise song. but my voice would sound out of place.

Epileptic Gibbon said 404 days ago
Ah, gotta love a Monkees fan
Yeah, do that! Do that!

apb said 405 days ago
Floyd...

.. heavy version .. the chords give a hint .. then
the first verse vocal melody was very Roger Walters ..
but other bits chorus (say) sound earlier Floyd .. making an album choice hard .. but I'd go with "Wish you were here".

This is such a cool game - wicked results! Influences on sleeves too ...

Awesome Vic, geetar is inspired. Fine mix too.

buckhorn said 405 days ago
Dark side
of a crazy star. Masterful arraingement and production as usual. Guitars and vocals aint half bad either. :) Great stuff!

jgurner said 405 days ago
I was going to say...
...Brittany Spears originally, but, I'll go along with everyone else and say Pink Floyd. As for which album, not a clue. Awesome though.

Vic Holman said 404 days ago
I was going to do...
Britney Spears.(shaved head version) but i couldn't work out the dance number in time.

Feter said 405 days ago
Crazy Star
Goodness ..what a superb song the guitars work just
crazy darn good ..and the bass just perfect ..this
need alot to think to see what it migth fit .LSP
anyway KUDOS !!

Doug Somers said 405 days ago
The lavalamp has been lit!
Wow, powerful Floyd-esque tune. Excellent all round.
Cheers,
Doug

michael2 said 405 days ago
damn you
i know it's Floyd, and the crazy star thing is definitely Wish You Were Here, but that echo on the vocals (haunt your mind) is going to make me go with Animals. This is an awesome track Vic, although you could have made it easier if you put some dogs barking.

said 405 days ago
Very cool...
At first... I was thinking Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders. Then I thought for sure it was Peter Noone, frontman for Herman's Hermits (who, btw, lives here in S.B.).

;)

But I will defer to the consensus choice of Floyd.

Vic Holman said 403 days ago
Herman Holman
well either way the character here is on a mind bender. :)

peacepiano said 405 days ago
Ditto
I would place this as heavy "Wish you were here", too slick and bluesy for early floyd to my ears.

Thanks
Bill

jiguma said 405 days ago
Bloody terrific
Excellent song in it's own right, but love the Flloyd references - very subtle they are too :)
Amazing production Vic - I suspect PF would have been happy with this.
Neil

Vic Holman said 403 days ago
Hey Neil
and wouldn't you know it. They never will get back together.

But Vic Floyd is suitable for now.

said 405 days ago
The Wall

Great bonus track of any of PF album :-)

rjamadeus said 405 days ago

i'm now so glad i didn't submit my floyd lsp , you put mine to shame. this is another fantastic tune, great job !

davisamerica said 405 days ago
dark side or
meddle...pink floyd and well done...shine on u crazy moon

stevel said 405 days ago
Definitely got a Floyd feel
..difficult to pinpoint the album as its a mix of the spaciness of Meddle coupled with the aggression of The Wall. Really cool track!
Steve

said 405 days ago
Pink Floyd :-)
Love "Wish You Were Here" and what was that other one? Something about "Lunatics"! ? ! (just going with some of your past song post snippets of lyrics. Kudos, Bro! Shine on you crazy diamond in the rough out on the "Mall" range lassoing the sky! CJ (aka. Angel)

Vic Holman said 401 days ago
hey Carole
you remember! Crazy people do often do rope tricks at times!

lengold said 405 days ago
I suppose it
must be Pink Floyd, but for some reason reminds me of the Moody Blues.
Great track Vic - very enjoyable.
Cheers

Ejh said 404 days ago
I've gotta be boring on this one...
...and lean toward "Wish You Were Here" or "The Wall"... I hear references to both...

First lost song I've listened to. What fun...

Ed

said 404 days ago
Hey Floyd?
err... I mean Vic, haha. I had to come back to leave a comment because I thought you'd like to know how much I'd diggin' this track! Nice job, sir! To me it seems like it would fit in nicely with Dark Side of The Moon, but wadda I know?

Ibstrat said 404 days ago
Everyone
has already guessed the possibilities that i would consider.Great song!

Mystified said 404 days ago
It's a good thing that everyone else...
...seems to know who's emulating who on these Lost Songs.
I keep looking out for Beethoven and Bach...

But seriously, my lack of knowledge hasn't taken away from enjoying these songs.

This is very cool--dark, driving, haunting. You get a fabulous, big sound and a great intensity in those vocals. Kudos! :)

Karmatoburn said 404 days ago
demented memories
Vic, what a great track. You should do a whole LSP CD :-) Just the right mix, vocals and guitars meshing nicely. That guitar at the end (actually the whole end part) is outstanding.

Vic Holman said 403 days ago
demented i am
the funny thing is, I kind of feel I have already done a CD's worth of lost tracks. :-)

said 403 days ago
Wow Greatness
Ahh wonderful tune Vic, the music alone is powerful and well conceived then vocals and lyrics top the cake
(wheres our friend and partner in crime? EB...part of the MJ pyramid of support)

Vic Holman said 403 days ago
Hi Tom
thanks.

seems Egobandit has deleted his songs and page

said 403 days ago
Your voice is getting EXCELLENT!
You're really starting to put some muscle into those vocals, and the result is really impressive. A little hint of Peter Gabriel, but still Vic and Vic alone.

My guess is Pink Floyd... off the Wish You Were Here. OOooooOOOR... how about Klaatu off the Endangered Species album? It would really fit, and that would be a sly manuevre and a half!

Vic Holman said 402 days ago
but
Floyd the barber, from andy griffith show doesn't come to mind?

said 402 days ago
That's IT!
Andeeeeeeeeeeee! How could I have MISSED that!

guitapick said 402 days ago
The Wall
...definitely going with Pink Floyd

"All in all you're just another brick in the wall..."

Cheery message...

said 402 days ago
Oh yeah.....
Nice.
It's those "Welcome to the Machine" guitar phrases from WYWH. And a nice tune in it's own right.
beep*

Vic Holman said 397 days ago
you
hit it right on the head. originally i had some synths but they didn't cut it. so i faked it with guitars.
Thanks for the listen

ledebutant said 401 days ago
Wowsa
What a killer track, Vic and you just nailed the sound of 'the boys,' right to the wall, which is the album I have to go with. The outro sounds as though it could segue right into, "Is There Anybody Out There?"

Vic Holman said 401 days ago
Hi Lisa
True, the band that I'm plundering here did segue into other songs on quite a few of their albums

said 401 days ago
I dont believe in Lsp
But I believe in Vic And if PF ever left off a wish U were here song this it it

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
and I believe-
and hope you stick around. wouldn't be the same with you leave a hole here.

perceptualvortex said 400 days ago
Well
This is really awesome, whoever it is. It all definitely sounds familiar, but I'm going to have to go with The Wall. Which reminds me, I've got to break that album out again. The guitar leads have a real Gilmore feel to them, and the chord progression, song topic, mix, effects and slightly desperate vocals all make me think Floyd. Awesome.

Vic Holman said 399 days ago
Hi Dave
I do throw in all the tricks. But the nature of the lyrics point in the right direction

SmokeyVW said 399 days ago
Pink
i'm sure i commented on this one, but it's not here! it vanished!

this must be the song that got replaced by Shine On You Freakin Diamond off of Floyd's Wish You Were Here

arachnidzone said 399 days ago
Top quality
Good finished feel, a voice between lennon and ozborne (ozzy) and definetly earlier floyd feel, Piper at the gates of Dawn.

dolby said 399 days ago
This is...
...more like what Pink Floyd would sound like if they were trying to be Vic Holman.

Typical Vic if you ask me -
Great,
Phil

Vic Holman said 397 days ago
Thanks Phil
Of course I have the advantage of over twenty years to return the favor to a favorite group that I learned some things from

Heightened said 398 days ago
Crazy Star
I would venture Peter Gabriel but does have a Pink Floyd feel. So I guess I'm out on this one.

Vic Holman said 369 days ago
hadn't thought of it
but now that you mention it there does seem a bit of peter here.

said 370 days ago
WOW !!
Mr. Vic, I can't say more that a MASTERPIECE of Rock, the playing, the vocal, the mix and the whole composition is in the 1st class .. One of the bests here at this community !
