Keywords see if you can guess who i was trying to sound like (1)
Description This is my submission for the LSP Challenge, The challenge was to write a song that could have been a lost track from someone else's album (although we're not saying who until sometime next week). You're supposed to guess what artist I'm trying to be. Here's a hint: think early 90's.

This was my first attempt at cutting apart drum loops to try and make a cohesive live drum sound; everything else was recorded quickly on the first take to give it a live band sound. I originally wrote this on piano, but now it's fuzzy and noisy. It's about people that I can't understand. Not something I would usually write, but I had a lot of fun doing this.

i hear...
nirvana (in the instrumentation at least), but then again there's a bit of earlier stp too...definitely grunge. even if i'm way off base here, nice work, killer tune. those were my highschool days and this really does take me back...even though it's brand new. nicely done!

The drums
do sound real. Great recording, songwriting and playing - really does sound like a very good band - but which one?
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 406 days ago
I'm guessing
Kurt Russell in a flannel shirt out of the Emarald City....oh heck nevermind

Peter Bauckham said 406 days ago
Could this be
The Pixies? It reminds me of Monkey Gone To Heaven... Not sure which album that was though!

Love that bass sound...

Peter

spitlogic said 406 days ago
nice job
Very nirvana-like (umm...thats my guess).

said 406 days ago
This one was hard for me
I can't find the band I looking after... But it is a great track dig it. Bro.
I have to think some more on this one.

Doolittle...
... the pixies best album - excellent track Michael!

bud said 405 days ago
The turn before the verse is pure Nirvana
but there's also a lot of pixies in there too. I'm gonna give this some more time - but the more I listen I think it's Nirvana from Nevermind.

apb said 405 days ago
Absolutely ..

.. grungy - Nirvana instrumentation, changes and vocals at times...album .. hmm "nevermind"?

Cool! This is fun .. great job Michael.

buckhorn said 405 days ago
Dynamite Tune
The combination of the drums and the bass work, make this one of your best arraingments/productions. Smells like Nirvana to me , but thats probably too obvious. Probably some obscure band I never heard of. I like my stuff to sound live also, but it's only because I don't have the ability to make something sound "studio". This is a super appealing tune. Latter dude.

J.A.Stewart said 405 days ago
Not Desperate Enough
for Nirvana. lol

Nice job. Did you do a lot of studio work doing covers? You're a terrific stylistic chameleon. ;)

The drums sound "real."
I know - it's Puddle of Mudd! Ha, that first riff.

Michael - you should be cranking out pop hits tin pan alley style, and selling 'em like hotcakes for the college fund.

Godchaser said 405 days ago
I give up!
If I had to take a stab I'd say Nirvana. You make it all seem so effortless.Yet another well crafted song M2.Love that God stuff!

Blessings,

Wo ..this is the first LSP song I heard it sound
superb hot rockin ye fuzzi and noisy but soo groovy !!
man I like this grungie guitar ..KUDOS !!

jgurner said 405 days ago
Yeah...
I can hear the Nirvana, but, I'm also thinking The Offspring. At least I think that's who I'm thinking. I'll have to go through my early 90s stuff when I get home to see if I change my mind.

stevel said 405 days ago
Nevermind?
Definitely got a Nirvana feel on the riffs, vocals. Good stuff!
Steve

michael2 said 405 days ago
aha
some of you are right on the money, some are real close and some not so close (but that's obviously more my fault). i shall reveal at a later date. thanks for listening.

dajama said 405 days ago
This is excellent
whoever it's supposed to be! Great vocal performance and yet another facet of your musical ability. I have to go with the Nirvana idea, because i hear them in the verses, although I hear Pixies in the chorus. Nice work. Peace.

echoroom said 405 days ago
...i agree with bud
.... Nevermind????

gail60 said 405 days ago
hmmm...I wonder
I would guess Tony Bennett and the Supremes...um Johnny Mathis and Madonna?? YAY..Did I win? did I - huh? did I?? LOL!! I know who you are supposed to sound like but I will not say. Would not want to spoil it for everyone. :) OK Actually you sound like this guy named Michael to me, which beats any guess I could make! He is always soo good at making awesome music. Just like this piece here. Sounds great.

said 405 days ago

Thanks

It has to be Nirvana Nevermind.Only thing missing is the short guitar solo in the middle.

Hey! Those are my headphones!
I've been looking for them!

Well, I have no imagination and no sense of Nineties music, but this sure sounds like Nirvana Nevermind to me...Cobainish vocal...bass line...grunge guitar...

SmokeyVW said 404 days ago
yeah
there's a lot of Nirvana here. don't know about what album...

nicely done

wow

thanks

said 404 days ago
Yup-
Very nice track!! Yours is the first of the few that I've listened to so far where I knew the band behind the song. (Gotta be Nirvana) Great job duplicating the feel/vibe on this one!

Mystified said 404 days ago
Ok..so now i'll be serious...
As I've whined all along, my ears are tuned to classical music, so I'm not much at guessing at these songs unless they are from uber-popular bands.

The first guitar riffs on this screamed Nirvana to me, and others seem to think so to. So maybe I guessed right on the band? :D

At any rate...this is fantastic.
You can do just about anything, can't you??

Brian D said 404 days ago
great song
If I have to say a band, I would say Teenage Fanclub. It sounds more like you to me. Great chords, great performance. I hope you're gathering all these songs up for an album of some sorts!

Axgrinder said 404 days ago
There's no doubt.....
No, not "No Doubt" but rather Nirvana, lost off the album Nevermind! I should think. Nice job Mike. Very clean and catchy. I think this would actually sell. Great pro-duction as well.

jiguma said 404 days ago
I wrote
a comment and faved this I'm sure - not sure if it's MJ gremlins or NP gremlins though :)
Great Nirvana song - probably would have been a huge hit if Kurt sang it!
Great playing and singing and nice "retro" (is the 90s retro?) sound.
Neil

Diviner said 403 days ago
Wow, cracking track
Nirvana or the Foo Fighters? Thankfully no McFly.
Good track and well produced, I really enjoyed this. I like that fact that one person can create a whole band. Well done.

Nirvana.........?
Solid, tight and strong! It definitely suggests Nirvana to me at times, but I'm not entirely sure... Excellent entry!

Ludwig van Beethoven...
...wouldn't have had a clue as to what to make of Nirvana...

Gotta jump on the Nirvana bandwagon...great band...and "Nevermind" is on it, as far as my ears can tell...

This is really nicely done, Michael...

oh! oh! nirvana- insecticide!

perceptualvortex said 400 days ago
I'll
I'll go with Nirvana... sounds great!

dolby said 398 days ago
Can't see...
...why anyone has said anything other than Nirvana - it's spot on (well, maybe the vox aren't quite mimicked)! The chords structure, bass line, little stops and wheeeee guitars and the harmonies are all there. Well plagiarized!

(If it's not Nirvana then I will look a prat.......)

Heightened said 398 days ago
God Only Knows
THis is awesome!!! Sounds a very Nirvana.

Rebsie said 397 days ago
Oops
Sorry to be a latecomer, I thought I'd already commented. With so many LSP entries it's hard to keep track of which ones I've listened to!

I'd concur with the Nirvana vibe, though I couldn't name the album.

It's a great song. Lovely dirty guitar and great vocals. Love it.

mccannmp1 said 396 days ago
Good Song Michael
Sounds a lot like The Replacements to me...especially your voice. Good Job

rsorensen said 391 days ago
So Nirvana
A Incesticide B-side perhaps? Really great song. Melodies like this are hard to write - for me anyway. Solid!

thiscausticautumn said 283 days ago
only problem is
I can understand every word without all the hard work and research needed to figure out what old KC was trying to say. But ya, totally caught the Nivana vibe. It's a suit you wear very casually. Well done.
