Description My first experiment with "looping".

I went to a workshop on GB4 for my job. Learned a bunch of stuff and spent a couple of hours that night experimenting on GB2. L-O-T-S of fun.

This is anything but finished...I'll be playing around with it as time goes on. It's short and I want to add some live guitar...

Lots of other stuff on the front burner, though...if anyone wants to add to this, please feel free...

I'm not really qualified
to comment on this cause I know nothing about looping. It's really funky though, and mesmerizing. Those synth washes over the top sound really cool.If this is your 1st try I'd like to see what you are doing in 6 months!

guitapick said 356 days ago
Hey Mark...
...hopefully I'll get back to this...it's really fun. You'd like it. Hoping some folks do some stuff with it...

Kenta said 359 days ago
Nice work
And it sure is a track some one/you can add some to get it even better.
Very nice put together and it sure is fun you don't need to ask me I KNOW.

Cheers

Yep...
...I have now gotten a very big boost in appreciation for what you electro loop (and more) wizards can do...

Thanks, kenta...

A good starting point
wish I had the time to add stuff.

Cheers

Thanks for the listen, Dick.

I Recognize One Of Those Loops
I used that guitar loop in a little video I put together on YouTube:

Anyway, you're gonna have to drop some of that GB knowledge on some of us around here!!

psexnyc said 358 days ago
Oops...
I thought that the link to my use of that guitar loop would pop up in that post. Oh well....if you want to click away from MJ for a minute, here it is. You're from NYC, so maybe you'll appreciate the location of the video.

Ah those early loopy joys
I recognize the loops, and I also see the excitement here that many of us had when we first found how fun it was to do the loopy-lego-block building in GarageBand. Looks like the class got you jump-started in blending stuff well, and your keen compositional ear kept things from getting too wacky. Welcome to yet another creative mode of composition!
ttfn,
Drakonis

guitapick said 358 days ago
Well said...
...sir drak. I've been thinking I want to play with the pan on the distorted guitar loop...but, yeah: it's exciting to get into a new mode of expression.

Back to my wooden boxes for now, though...want to complete enough tunes for my cd. Just need to record them (which, it turns out, is an art in itself...as you all know).

Thanks guy(s)...

so
out of character for you, but a good funky ride. you should be scoring cop shows for TV.

Cool experiment ...sound fun !

If Alan Parsons plus Tangerine Dream had gone funk....
Very cool fusion of styles. Loops can be great fun. I'm keen to hear what you do with the guitar - when you have time!

Thanks,
Doug

kristyjo said 358 days ago
Loops are fun -
I do enjoy the occasional tastefully arranged loop piece. Your talents as a guitarist layered over this will be something to look forward to. To me, that's the magic of GarageBand - the ability to combine loops with live with software instruments with MIDI files.

guitapick said 357 days ago
Thanks, Kristy...
It might be awhile before I add to this...working on my acoustic tunes...but glad you liked it and can relate.

damiengh said 358 days ago
uh-ooh
uh-ooh, your in trouble now. Your in another land where your guitar will be inspired to interact with lots of shady motifs, propelling you into a whirlwind of character bending and testing.

You may not know yourself when your done, but you'll be better for it. Like after eating forbidden fruit, you are changed forever.

Who knows, you may start tackling movie soundtracks to action movies where you can finally wear proudly, those giant sunglasses from the 70's that you have had hidden for all these years in that locked chest in your basement.

guitapick said 358 days ago
~
How did you know about my sunglasses?

PickQuick Records said 357 days ago
Cool!
This has the making to be a really cool instrumental.
I would lay down a solid rhythm and then some solos over this bad momma.

VERY cool first loop thang bro.

I like it a lot.

peacepiano said 357 days ago
Cool sound
This is pretty cool. If you tell me the key and time signature I might come up with something.

Thanks
Bill

guitapick said 357 days ago
Key of:
Cmaj...4/4 time signature...120 btm...Mr. Newbie stock stuff...this is my first open collab. No pressure on anyone...but looking forward to anything that does come out.

peacepiano said 356 days ago
Thanks
for the info. No flats or sharps, couldn't be much easier :)

Opposites
I always enjoy hearing an accomplished musician having fun with the loops GB has to offer.

Of course I'm the opposite. I started out messing around with loops before GB was even available. Tinkering with loops after GB came out inspired me to take piano lessons.

What a cool job you've got that you had to go to a workshop for GB4! I hope you didn't let on to the boss about how much fun it really was, hehe. Very nice track you have here. Should make for a great bed to play your guitar to.

guitapick said 356 days ago
That's interesting...
...I really like your keyboard work. Great that GB inspired you that way. Cool study of opposites.

bring on the funk
as a viable musical tool, i think looping is awesome. i only wish i knew more about it...i have only done a couple of looping things in the past, and they were no where as cool as this. nicely done, bro.

btw: I don't hate you and I love true metal...interesting forum post)

sounds good
Sounds good to me. I did a loop project. Its been awhile back.
I really enjoyed myself when I did that project. It has a great feel.
I liked the synth washes as well!!

guitapick said 353 days ago
Thanks...
...a bit off my beaten path...but that's what stimulates those neural paths, ain't it?

threw me for a loop
i'll trot out my usual excuse: not enough time to listen to a half a percent of everything here.

but wait - that sounds familiar - no, wait, that does too, hey! so does that! - hey... what's going on here? you're using all my old GB faves... LOL

just read your Description, nevermind.

cool! i like it!!!

thanks

SmokeyVW said 353 days ago
also
keep at it

i like software instruments

why?

YOU CAN CHANGE THE NOTES

it's endlessly fun

guitapick said 353 days ago
Thanks, Smokey...
...glad you like it...

...ever spent any time in a VW bus?

bonnieprincejohnny said 352 days ago
Merci beaucoup...
for sharing this smashin' wee tune. I'm familiar with the strings loop you used and expect you'll hear it in quite a few gb numbers in some waveform or another. The guitar work is fab by the way. Be lucky.

guitapick said 352 days ago
Thanks...
...loops are much cooler that I'd imagined. Must tread carefully...as they can take me away from my current "focus"...

Nice of you to visit...I like your "name"...may I call you "your carousing highness"?

This stuff's amazing...I'm a teacher and my kids are really getting into it. Glad you liked...

great orchestration, cool tune. Dig those really long synth pads that cascade in and out of the funky rythyms.

Enrique Gil said 349 days ago
Hi there!
Its always good to hear your music.Quite nice I;d say. I have absolutely no experience with loops, but this piece sounds great!

lengold said 348 days ago
Nice funky
feel here Bob. Those loops can get a bit addictive if you are not careful. I spent a long time playing with them. Have a few things on my disc that last about 12 minutes each.
Cheers
Len

bud said 344 days ago
Beware of loops - they lead to harder stuff
Fun track - I can see you're gonna get into this. I'm looking forward to hearing you work your guitar magic over some funky section.

blind_diamond said 324 days ago
NICE!
That was cool...as a smoothie!

Dee1962z said 244 days ago
Well well

loop da loop lol
yeah great sounds, neatly woven very nice. sound textures and rthems
. What I like about the GB loops is you can also add live instruments software to them which is what I do most times.Sometimes
they work out sometimes not. But its fantastic fun creating music in GB
and thats what its all about. Cheers
Peace Dee.

Told myself I'd add some guitars when I made this up...still on the backburner, though...someday...

This was my first loopfest. Lots of fun...feel free to download and add some stuff if you get the inclination...

Dee1962z said 243 days ago
Cheers might just do that.

good idea ok thanks.

Pretty Darn Good
for a tenth try, much less a first. Man where do I apply for a job that gives training in GB4 as part of the job, I want in.

Love the way you wove different sounds and instruments into and out of this Bob, Nice job. Can't wait to hear what you do with it in the future.

Looking forward to the next addition.
