Description Well, this is pretty much a first for me. Playing keyboards as the prominant instruments. It probably took me a gazillion times to play it right.

I would also like to thank Alannah for the idea of the song title and lyrics. I was really stuck for ideas to write about.
Lyrics Do I Know You

verse 1
standing in a room in a sea of faces
alone in my world feeling out of place
said my hellos drifting thru the crowd
something somewhere silenced all the sounds

breaking in the wake I stood behind you
something familiar if only I knew your name
like two ships passing in the night

chorus
do I know you it seems we have met before
do I know you maybe in the past or some other life
do I

verse 2
I guess you can call it deja vu
but it only lasts for a second or two
maybe it's this room so out of place
maybe there is something about your face

there was a moment that flashed before me
maybe I knew you in a past life
like two ships passing in the night

chorus
do I know you it seems we have met before
do I know you maybe in the past or some other life
do I

verse 3
I heard before that time stands still
and a life that never did exist
I'm a little lost for words to say
would you understand me anyway

maybe I'm faceless in your eyes
but the question runs through my mind
like two ships passing in the night

chorus
do I know you it seems we have met before
do I know you maybe in the past or some other life
do I

verse 4

there was a moment that flashed before me
maybe I knew you in a past life
like two ships passing in the night

chorus
do I know you it seems we have met before
do I know you maybe in the past or some other life
do I

Your play's a wow. This is brilliant. KUDOS my friend.

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Kenta
I've been meaning to do something more keyboard orientated for some time. Sure is a switch, huh?

DWL said 417 days ago
Shifting goal posts again
I know what you mean about keyboards. Thank God for quantize (as far as I'm concerned)

This is really good, I think it's good to write with a different instrument but I'm pleased you stayed with the guitars for the break. It wouldn't be Vic otherwise :)

Interesting departure. What did Alannah actually say write about?

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Dick
I sometimes tinker around on the keys. When I came up with the beginning, I pushed myself to see it through. I played it over and over for two days running until I could start recording it.

I was stuck for anything to write about, Alannah had an idea about meeting someone and feeling youl'd known them forever. That got me rolling and took the deja vu approach. Otherwise I might of written about turtles and shaving cream. She saved us all from hearing about that.

Moviz said 417 days ago
Good tune
with good lyrics and very atmospheric good vocal too. The keyboard sounds fine and the guitar is a great sound in the break, regards M

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Maurice
I don't play keyboards much. But, this song probably wouldn't work any other way. I also doubled the main synth with a clavinet. It's not to noticable but it is there.

Thanks for the listen.

This song has a chill and acid in the singin and
the atmopshere .the keybioard sound is cool ..
like all you rsongs Vic ..just so groovey and awesome
to listen to .a classic ..welldone !

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Feter
Sure is a different sound from me.
But it was nice to do something a bit different instrument wise. I'm really glad you enjoyed it.

Sorry I couldn't stick around and chat. I had leaves to pick up and we are expect snow tonight. I hate winter.

Vic
This is awesome I love when the drums kick in at the beginning. The mix sounds great. What did you do to make the guitar sound like that in the solo?I'm a big fan of descending bass lines. Also ending on Em-great!Also you have a unique and very cool voice.

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Hey Mark
That's my Ringo impersonation on playing midi drums on the keyboard. I was thinking of a few Lennon tunes here. He used a lot of the descending bass lines as well.

The guitar solo is three separate guitars playing in harmony. ala Queen. For example at the beginning it's playing three notes from a chord separately. Then I did two harmonzied and one guitar an octave lower. When you record them you will know if you hit a wrong note. So theres a little brain work to figure it out. But the sound is so cool.

jfaaz said 417 days ago
Reflective
Its got that Mersey Beat sound!

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
I toatlly agree!
The Beatles and Lennon really used descending bass lines quite a lot in their music. It's a slower tune, basiccaly because I can't play the keyboards any faster.

I appreciate you giving it a listen!

said 417 days ago
Bravo!
Nice work Vic! It feels good to get out of one's comfort zone and try something different, doesn't it? And this is quite a departure!

Love the sound of the keys thoughout.

Your singing is getting better and better. You shine on this one.

And the electric guitar soloing is exquisite.

Truly top-drawer stuff bro!

Be well!

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Mike
Quite true, It was fun to tackle something a bit different instrumentally wise.

I've been wanting to do something along this line for some time. But it wasn't until i came up with this that I felt it would be doable. But man oh man I had to play the keyboard over and over to get it down before I could start recording.

But. I'm glad I challenged myself here.
BTW, I broke another piece off a tooth. crap!

said 417 days ago
Yup...
I have the same problem when recording keys...especially the piano! Organ is easier. I think because there's more "flow" or something. All your practicing seems to have payed off here.

RE the tooth, the whole tooth, and nothing but the tooth: Are you sure you're not carrying a torch for your dentist bro?

I was seeing (on a strictly professional basis) a pretty Asian dentist some years back. She stopped seeing me after I bit her finger really hard! My current dentist is a really cool old guy who is also a dead-ringer for Donald Sutherland.

Personally I think you should stop playing your lead guitar solos with your teeth. It's been done to death you know!

Be well!

Vic Holman said 416 days ago
I wouldn't dare...
bite my dentist. He's an avid wild game hunter.

Peter Bauckham said 417 days ago
Nice to hear
you doing something a little different - but still sounding like you at the same time. I think this is one of your best productions - everything sounds very nicely placed in the mix. I'm glad there's still enough of your guitar sounds on this - I'd have missed them. Great tune and lyrics.

Peter

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Thanks Peter
To me, a tune without some guitars would be like missing an arm. I kept them minimal. I didn't even add acoustics til near the end. Then i had to figure transposing them from the keyboard, which was a little tricky. Considering there are some odd chords that I don't have the slightest idea of what the name of them were.

lostsongs said 417 days ago
I really like the relaxed vibe of this one
maybe with fewer guitars there are fewer rhythmic lines running at the same time. Whatever it is - it's really cool - especially the way the chorus kinda chills the beat as opposed to driving it. Very Vic - wonderful as usual and well constructed.Good lyrics and pipes too.

bud said 417 days ago
Oops -
I keep forgetting who I am. Well - now that I've come clean about being LSP - I can lay claim to the above comment. But I can't fave again - that would be double boosting. One man - one vote - perhaps multiple identities. I feel like we've lost our innocence this week.

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
Hey Bud
Heck, I knew it was you all the time.
I can hardly wait til the end of the month for the lost tracks project to start!

This time out I used my alter ego as well.
This was a good challenge for me try a different approach. This song would not of worked with just guitars.

said 417 days ago
Keys, huh?
Very nice, Vic! I really enjoyed this one- the mix sounds fantastic.

Vic Holman said 417 days ago
surprise!
Hey Mike, I tinker a little on the keyboard. This one I had to really hunker down to pull off. But it's back to guitars for the Lost Tracks Project.

dolby said 416 days ago
Nice one...
...the Vic Holman production machine just keeps on rollin' - I have no idea how you're so prolific!!!!

Sweet tune - I was humming along by the end and thinking this is a Christmas number 1. Has a touch of the Lennon's about it, for sure.

Neat.
Phil

Vic Holman said 416 days ago
Thanks Phil
You know after I got the vocals in and mixed. I finally sat back to listen to it as a whole. And I thought man, that's the closet I've ever got to a Lennon sound. And yet with a Brian May type of guitar section, Who'ld figure.

moorlandt said 416 days ago
consistency
Vic, you need to bring out an album real soon, mate. This is another brilliant track. Always at the same consistent quality level. And that voice... aaah, so unique. I especially loved the vocal line in the verses. It also put my on the wrong tempo foot at the very beginning (which is a great thing), a 6/8 measure which turns out to be a 4/4. Splendid work!

Walt

Vic Holman said 416 days ago
Thanks Walt
I use to say never on compiling a CD. But I'm starting to think about it. Definately would need to go back and redo or fix stuff. This was a challenge considering i don't consider myself a keyboardist. But I gave it a go and surprised myself that I was able to pull it off.

said 416 days ago
You know Vic
If you keep this up youl get signed and then Ill have to buy your music and Ill have to fight my way to the front row! Your singing is getting better and better. Greatness!!!

Vic Holman said 416 days ago
right
If anything ever came out it would be in the bargain bin or at a dollar store.
AND, if I was ever out playing the indian casino circuit you would be up there as well, on bass

jiguma said 416 days ago
Another classy song Vic
They just keep coming! Congratulations - doing this on keys must have been "interesting" (it certainly would be for me to try this).

I really enjoy the sound you get on your voice - part accent, part recodring technique and partly having an unusual voice (we should start a club!). In fact I like everything about this - very early Brit sound, lovely production.

Yep, a nice tune!
Neil

Vic Holman said 415 days ago
Hey Neil
I did have to really go for broke on the keyboard. I just tinkle around once in a while. A lot of practicing before i hit record, and that took some takes as well.

the only thing i use on the vocals is compression, low cut & reverb in stereo. So why it does what it does is beyond me. I'm guessing you are thinking the same of yourself as well. True, we need a club name for our vocal sounds. "The Throatles?"

jiguma said 415 days ago
Let's hear it for ....
.... THE THROATIES :)

Or maybe "THE RASPIES"

Neil

How about "The Gizzards"?

michael2 said 415 days ago
i definitely
wasn't expecting this when it first started playing. Great song, and your keyboard playing is really good. This song has some great changes, and the vocals are really cool. love when it gets to the pasrt about the 2 ships passing in the night. excellent.

michael2 said 415 days ago
forgot to
mention that awesome solo

Vic Holman said 415 days ago
Hi Michael
I thought it might catch someone of guard. When I was playing around and came up with the intro. I knew I had to see this one through. Most of the keyboard tunes I tried and gave up on. This one wouldn't work as well on guitar.

To make up for it I had to add the queen style 3 part guitar solo. of course.

Just listened to your Lou tune. That was great

SmokeyVW said 415 days ago

the first two lines perfectly sum up what extreme shyness is all about.

i like your keyboard work.

thanks

Vic Holman said 415 days ago
Thanks Bill
One of those off shoot kinda things. But it has motivated me to practice more. or pretend to at least.

Alannah said 415 days ago
This came out great ...
... {insert little smiley face here } .... I like your "smokey" style of singing.

Vic Holman said 415 days ago
Thanks Alannah
And thanks again for giving a idea to do about lyrics.

I had a weird vision of playing in some run down lounge in a crumpled powder blue tux performing this. Make for a interesting video. And, I would really like to hear how you would do your own version of this.

lengold said 414 days ago
This is
a really well written song and very infectious (a real grower). Very well played and sung. Enjoyed it a lot.
Cheers
Len

Vic Holman said 412 days ago
thanks Len
the structure of the song came pretty quickly. But it took a while to learn the keyboard to it. I'm not a keyboardist by trade. It was good challenge myself on it.

Thanks for listening!

A cool ballad, great vocals and really good keys, I had a good time reflecting with this song leading my thoughts, thanks Vic

Vic Holman said 412 days ago
Thanks Tom
does have a introspective feel to it. i think thats what led to the lyrics. before i started recording i thought it was going to be a little faster.

You have a way with this music stuff.

very good tune. I like the slowness.

Nicely recorded. and well performed my man.

Hey Tim
Thanks. Usually it just starts with a small piece. Then I build from it. Just works that way I guess. Who Knew?
Thanks for tuning in. Appreciate it.

good to see you back....on your fingers. just don't overdo it this time.

well it's this, or a slow crooner version of "hungry like the wolf".

John Stebbe said 410 days ago
Great sound here
Your voice reminds me of the pop star 'Donovan' from the late 60s. Your style is very 'British Invasion' to my ear. A treat.

Sort of a cross between "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "There's A Kind Of A Hush" by Herman's Hermits.

I love the guitar harmonies, parallel to the guitar melody. Quite cool.

Vic Holman said 408 days ago
Thanks John
I hadn't thought of a Donavon sound but now that you mention it.

Funny how most British can sound so American when they sing and that I would be a throw back. who knew?

I really appreciate you giving this a listen!

It was sad days when The Beatles run out of gas.
Thankfully today we have Vic Holman. This really fills a gap!
Thank you for another great production!

From one who know nooothing of how to hande a piano..

Vic Holman said 408 days ago
Thanks Cori
It does kind of remind me a little bit of some early Lennon solo songs. I think in the decending bass notes.

True I don't know much on piano. So I hang on and hope for the best.

I like this tune very much. You got me thinking about getting one of those M-Audio keyboards for Christmas. I like the progression of chords and the vocals that went along with it. Great stuff!!

Vic Holman said 405 days ago
yes
i picked up my m-audio keyboard with 49 keys. for around $130. pressure sensitive keys as well. have had no problem with it at all.

Thanks for the listen!

Oops! Meant to get back sooner...
Had one of these moments just recently - I'm taking a long wait and see approach [reading "Catch 22", and laughing, like I haven't done in years], but I've grown used to and fond of amusement parks and won't let myself get sidetracked. Getting good at jumping free of carousels and landing on my feet. :-) Forward movement = positive journey. :-)

Ahhh! One of the classier pick up lines... the kind you can't just dismiss outright... some sort of conversation ensues... possible foot in door... way better than... say..., "Wanna come over to my place and see my 'etchings'?" But then she'd be on the ropes with your really wonderful art work... Wow!!! You're GOOOD!!! :-) "Hungry Like The Wolf," huh?! (Duran Duran ?) How about "Animal" ( ha! ha! - and guess who did that one. :-) around the same time I believe [?] ) Trivial Pursuit - the MacJams version. :-)

And then some guy really had to go and write the most disgustingly ridiculous pick up line I've ever heard. My son's teenage friends used to laugh and sing it - "You and me Babe ain't nothin' but mammals, so let's...........Discovery Channel." That crap gets airtime?, when there are really great artists on MacJams who can write circles around that kind of junk. Go Figure.

Anyhoo! :-) Lovely song Vic. Bet she stayed and talked with you all night if she heard your song. :-)

Vic Holman said 402 days ago
hey Carole
This is my seedy nightclub act. Mostly working for tips and a free drink. Now I saw a commercial with an older actor doing hungry like the wolf with babes all around. it must be true if it's on tv.

Lyrically it works two ways depending how you read it. one is a sense of deja vu and also can work as a male peacock hoot. ha!

I've said before that you get stronger with every new posting and this is no exception. Flawless professional production on this track.

Gentle Song Of Wistful Hopes
...this one brought me back to so many places, so many moments that are just part of my history now but still have the emotional pull of what might have been...

Your keyboards are perfect, as is just about everything else about this song. It amazes me that you can pull off these tunes and not only have them sound so smooth and solid, but still have the emotional poignant edge of a teenage yoot who just banged out the first song for the girl of his dreams.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...... CD. I'd love to have a Vic Holman CD cranked in my car with the jewel case sitting prominently on the front seat... maybe hear it playing at the local music store, and all the yoots would nod and say, "yeah, that's Vic Holman... f***in' awesome, man."

Hint: feature ducks as a prominent element in the cover art. Not nearly enough ducks in music anymore.

Vic Holman said 402 days ago
and they yelled duck
as the jewel case whizzed past their heads and embedded ing the wall.

Yeah, there are those times in the past when you wonder what might have been.

Well, I am thinking more and more about a CD. Not sure what is the best route so I'll have to do some investigating if it's worth it. Plus, got to go back fix stuff and have some songs not available here, etc. Not quite decided yet
