Description I just bought a GI 20 synth Fender Strat with the Interface. So there is no acoustic guitar on this one. So most of the orchestration is done on the electric-midi guitar.

O my friend this is a heartfelt tune ...
indeed I would love to heart your guitar
pickin here .but its stand its own beauty here !!
just wonderfull my friend ..!

I like it Bill
It's different from your other songs I've heard, but that doesn't mean it's any less than your usual excellent work. Nice mix if Guitar and strings too.

Where did you find the Fender with the GI-20 installed on it. Did you buy it all set up, or put it together yourself. I mean I haven't ever seen one sold completely put together, or actually looked for one, but it would be nice to have a source in case I want one.

Keep up the good work Bill, always a pleasure to hear your postings.

It came with it
sloparts. But I didn't realize I had to fork over the big bucks for the interface. Always something extra right! :)

They always seem to
figure out a way to get into you wallet somehow, don't they. But in this case the results may have been worth it. Nice sounds Bill!

Moviz said 422 days ago
Yes Bill...
it is different from your other stuff, but it's standing up great alongside. The orchestration sounds good with the guitar, regards M

Too much!
Having just completed my Telecaster acquisition, I was just going to post in the forums--and may yet--to ask if anyone is using or has used the Roland-ready Strat... So I'm going to be coming to you, among others, Bill...

So...It sounds good...does it track well? Can you bend a note on it? Is ALL of this input through the guitar interface? I'm seriously fascinated... Are you using this through a Boss/Roland synth module, or MIDI-ing through GarageBand?

Details, Bill, I want details!

Cool tune and arrangement... I enjoy the way the Rhodes sound wavers between the channels, and, for that matter, the way you use panning in this...

Very interesting....

Me- This is my first time recording so I didn't really experiment fully on all the bends and shifts,. But I was surprised how it responds with the symphony jam pack and others, including choir etc.. I couldn't resist the deal. It was used at Nashvile Used Music Store. About 1/2 the price and it works, with no broken stuff that I can see.

The interface IG 20 Interface cost about $394.00, there was a later model but I didn't want to fork the bigger bucks . But this is more an what I need in a midi guitar. I really intended it for the cord capabilities. But there is so much more to this thang :)

Me- Ya i put a smidgon of panning, you don't miss a beat Ed!

Thanks Ed for the post. Good luck on your arsenal ! I enjoy reading about what ya got and get on the forums as well.
Very interesting....

I've often wondered about MIDI guitar -
and thought that I'd like one if I ever had the kids' college paid for, retirement secure, and the plumbing fixed...

Neat sounds here from the guitar (voices from JamPack?) Have fun experimenting!

Well...
...this should provide you with hours/days/weeks/years/decades of fun...

Sounds great, Bill. Cool to hear another side...looking forward to more...

Ah
Ah, you've really got some nice and interesting music out off this! Looking forward to hear what more is gonna come from your creative music laboratory, now that you've got this thing!

I've so long wanted one of these gadgets.
How are they to play on?
Do you get fast responses or are there delays?
Can it interprete slides and bends?

thetiler said 422 days ago
I think it is almost like a dream to play on
because with the acoustic guitar, what can be harder to press down on? Don't get me wrong, I loved pressing down on the acoustic guitar.

But the strat guitar, why they make em now adays like butter to press down on. I have leanings towards classical, so for my style, I love the response. I didn't change the strings from when i bought it. They are light gauge, I mean how much easier to press down can you get ? :) Like guitar heaven:) This guitar is going to spoil me for sure, Have to use heavier gauged strings to feel I'm playing a guitar:) Plus, I think I can slip in some early playin and recording without waking up the wife :) That is another BIG factor in this guitar.

It really does open up a whole new world of playing, especially in the classical and pop. Plus, another GIANT thing is that if you are not a keyboard virtuoso
it can really step up to the plate and deliver flowing cordal sequences with the use of so many EFFECTS! Such as the JAM PACKS.

The first layer of this tune is fingerpicking, playing it on an electric guitar has a total different realm sound and style than fingerpicking on an acoustical guitar. It was luck to find one used and in a major music store. They were not even thinking of selling it, because it was a showroom floor model. Part of the GI-20 cord was missing to the unit. They found it, I thought that would blow the possibility of them selling it. But they let it go. So I was happy about that.

They were going to sell me something very ancient as far as an interface, but it didn't have the capability of making sounds with full chord right hand fingerpicking sound that I mainly wanted from this. So I went to another store and bought the GI-20 box interface.

I had a tough time figuring out to just make sounds in it. So a guy from a forum told me to just put it in poly mode. It is off to the right of main knob. I mean there are about 10 different settings written around that main knob. The one thing that manuals don't do very good is get to the meat and potatoes of just making it play. So this guys tip of making sure the knob simply was turned on to Poly Mode was monumental in getting me to make sounds out of it.

Thank you
Thank you for a long and comprehensive answer. This gave me input that I needed. Glad for you!

Cool
You are getting some very interesting tones from your guitar here. I enjoyed this very much and look forward to more of these electronic journeys.

Thanks
Bill

On my third listen
and I love what you did here. I generally don't like panning, but this is gentle and it works very well in this piece. For a guy who just got the new guitar/interface, you sure figured out how to make it shine fast! Looks like you started something big in here. :-)

thetiler said 421 days ago
Thanks so much Roxy
I was having problems with safari browser, so it is much easier to post now I think.
Again, thanks for stopping by and all your listens!

Fascinating sounds Bill
I've always wanted to get my hands on a synth guitar - it would make all those keboard sounds so much more accessible. This is really interesting, and as it's an early post in your relationship with the Strat, things can only get better.
Very enjoyable.

Midi Guitar?
Bill, I heard about MIDI guitar back about 15 years ago, but I never thought it went anywhere. I had not heard about it for quite awhile until just now, reading your song description. Gee, it sounds pretty good! And is that Rhodes sound controlled by your guitar also? Pretty impressive. I like the way the Rhodes pans across the field.

Lots of great ideas here for improv and melodic expansion.

There are many layers to you, Bill. It's been interesting, for the last couple of years, hearing new layers with each new listen.

thetiler said 412 days ago
ya
I added a coarser sound underneath but I did add the organ on top of the lead guitar layer in the organ parts.

Thanks for the input John

This is Beautiful
I love everything about this piece. Being new to MJ, I'm not familiar with your other work yet, but I understand this is a little different for you. If so, I hope you keep doing more like this. It grabbed my ear and wouldn't let go. Thanks - I look forward to listening to more of you.
