Description music
Lyrics What was I doing there?

walking down the street today
I saw me walking the other way
I didn't hear as I shouted hey
the cry was lost in the traffic
I turned around to see my route
and realised that I shed my suit
I paused to take another toot and
passed it onto the man with the funky hair

what was I doing there?

with purpose in their common stride
i chanted that the Chief had lied and
taken us to where men died
the friendly guns were grinning
I figured this complaint was fair
not simple hippy doctrinaire
I joined them in the Grosvenor Square
and shouted at the man on the big black horse

what was he doing there?

nothing ever changes
another hill of beans
countries with a different name
nightmares out of dreams
forty years or trying
to stop the bloody dying
the whole world now is crying
or that's just how it seems

and as the blows were raining down
in the Summer of Love in london town
baghdad's name could just be found
marked F for future trouble
the embassy stands proud today
behind its concrete stay-aways
and still we see he kneels and prays
amongst his moral rubble
and the echoes yell

what are we doing there?

Cool track
Cool pysch pop track...kinda reminds me of 70's rock like Procul Harem. Nice one

Made my day!
Any comparisons with Procol Harum are positively encouraged. It's usually Pink Floyd (for the uninitiates), so imagine my surprise...

Many many thanks

Chas (aka Sir D)

ps cheque's in da post

Let's try spelling..
'psych' and 'Procol Harum' properly hehe...

I
love the guitars... cool main riff, great tune. Thanks!

TobinMueller said 419 days ago
Nice
Very good writing, balanced and solid. I dig the organ, the guitar licks, the space you give your vocals. My ears wanted more drumming fills, less reverb. Please consider posting lyrics. I like the little radio clip, other details.

great song
really big sound - I like the chords in the verse - one of my favourite progressions that got used alot more in the 60's and I often try to ressurect it and you have done here.Great voice - reminds me of roy harper.I came here by way of Dicks post and glad I did.Cheers

Lots of Nice Stuff...
going on in this song.

Yes, the organ backing immediately gave it a PH factor, but lots of other nice 60s-influenced guitar licks and the slide part gave it a different flavor.

Yes... more drums please.

Nice job, Dennis. Welcome to MacJams. ;)

Been
Listening to your other songs since you first appeared here and your sound and expertise is apparent in them all.Are you playing everything here, because you're missing your way I think if you are...but glad you ended up here. It's a great vocal, sound and recording technique, cheers M

Nice!
Really like your guitar sound. The 'radio' voice near the end reminded me of Alice Cooper's Elected. I'd have liked the lyrics posted - my computer speakers arn't great. Good song!

Welcome to MacJams

Forgive me for the delay in replying. I'm humbled by the replies. The song was originally called What was I doing There? but a glitch on the upload required a change of title. I'll post the lyrics...but I'm really sorry to disappoint you guys who got a buzz out of the line about the suit. In fact it's "shed" my suit. But I was in stitches too! Works either way...

Cheers

Yes
I love the way you mislead with the Beatles intro, and then lead the listener into a completely different maze. I love this. Great mix too. F for future trouble - hope so!
